Fox News Misleading Palin Crowd Shot

Posted: Nov 18, 2009

Fox uses old Palin crowd footage

Fox's Sean Hannity apologized last week after the Daily Show caught the host showing footage of the larger crowd at the 9/12 rally when discussing a smaller, anti-health care reform event.

But today there was another instance of Fox running old footage for a more recent event.

ThinkProgress noticed Fox's Gregg Jarrett telling viewers that Sarah Palin was "continuing to draw huge crowds while she's promoting her brand new book," a statement accompanied by images of, well, huge crowds. The problem is the some of these images -- which Jarrett said were "just coming in to us -- appear to have been taken from the 2008 campaign.

Media Matters points out that one image in the Fox clip was from a Palin rally in Ocala, Florida from November 2008.

A Fox spokesperson was not immediately available for comment but I'll update when I hear back from the network.

OMG! I DONT CARE... this is making you guys, whoever - you are, look like petty children

My God! No wonder Obama got elected. So many people had their heads stuck in the sand or worrying about Palin's clothing, voice, daughter, etc. that they paid no attention to who he REALLY is. Get over this! This country is in shambles. Is Obama making it better or worse? Yet you worry about Palin and her crowd...how pathetic.

Then post topics pertinent to your cause instead - of spending your time

Fox and News in the same sentence? - NJ

[ In Reply To ..]
Didja see Rachel tonight? Exposing a doctor who is frequently on Fox, touted as an expert on health reform? And the money trail back to insurance companies?

Sadly this kind of National Enquirer news sells well. No wonder so many kooks are screaming bloody murder as the country gets better.

NJ

Rachel? MSNBC? Oh you are funny. MSNBC is the - not even legit... try again. nm

which doctor? - just me

[ In Reply To ..]
Not trying to be argumentative. I am totally serious - which doctor. Here's my thoughts....

1. Rachel Maddow? She's in the same category as Katie Couric and Contessa Brewer. A disgrace to the profession and I'd love to see her go off the air. She is a socialist elitist and nothing she says is credible. Too bad too. Pretty woman and I used to really enjoy her. I just woke up and realized what she was about.

2. Fox News - yes same sentence. Whether you like to believe it or not they do report the news and they report the whole news story (unlike MSNBC) and they interview people and have both republicans and democrats on the same panel discussing issues. As for Sean Hannity...I CANNOT stand that man. I like how Michael Savage refers to him "A leprechaun". HA HA. I think he's a Rush wannabe and you can see him trying to immitate Rush and Rush's moves and the way he says things. I can't stand that guy and along with Rachel I'd like to see both of them off the air. However, I do enjoy the guests that Hannity has on.

Now...I'm really curious as to what doctor you were talking about. Here is why. Fox has a doctor on all the time. He is a Fox contributor and is pushing for the flu vaccine, their safe, their this, blah, blah, blah, however, what he says is so obviously false. I'm no doctor, but I read a lot of health articles written by doctors, and this doc Fox has on all the time does not discuss the dangers of the vaccine. On top of that I hear Rupert Murdock owns stock in the company that produces this vaccine. No wonder this doc gets on and keeps pushing and pushing it not informing the public of its dangers. So just wondering if its the same doc.

I really do think people should lay off Fox. They say don't report the news but they don't give examples. The same could be said about MSNBC, except we all know that MSNBC blatantly misleads the public and does not report full news stories, only the parts they think people should see. MSNBC lets their personal feelings and hatred get in the way of reporting anything that is un-biased.

Rachel Maddow a "socialist elitist"? - emanon

[ In Reply To ..]
Where did you get that term from? Fox? I've figured out that the "elitist" term is the "fancy" word used for intelligent, educated people that consevatives cannot otherwise understand.

As for the name of the doctor, I posted it below.
Fox is equal to the Inquirer, not the news - Intelligent people are dems usually or independent
[ In Reply To ..]
I can't help but notice the religious right, hillbillies, rednecks, narrow minded, people like Palin and Fox. It's for the simple minded.

The intelligent people are usually independents and sometimes Democrats but the smart people NEVER watch Fox seriously.
Just trollin' along - NJ
[ In Reply To ..]
Apologies to those who aren't "dems or independent" for the blanket statement in the post above.

Seems trolls on this board are equal opportunity.

NJ
Thank you NJ - Hmmm
[ In Reply To ..]
People need to stop grouping everyone in the same group. There are many intelligent people who are liberals and many who are conservatives and many independents. At the same time there are many "un-intelligent" people in all parties too. The "troll" poster who wrote that falls into the latter category.

Not all conservatives/republicans are religious, hillbillies, rednecks, or narrow minded. Everyone is an individual. I am independent with more conservative view points, but I am most certainly not any of the above. And I do believe that some of the above mentioned people also fall into the democrat party too.

Writing such a ridiculous statement that Ms. No Name above wrote is so ridiculous it shows that her intelligence is lacking.

And saying Fox news is equal to the Enquirer? Please... The same could be said about MSNBC. Each station has news stories, and each station has the radical show hosts. It's all personal preference.

Thank you for pointing out trolls are on both sides.
My God! You look like nothing BUT an elitist...and - it does not make you more intelligent.
[ In Reply To ..]
To generalize and name-call this way only shows your ignorance and snobbery. I would MUCH rather watch Fox. They are more balanced than most, a little conservative leaning, but the others are SO left leaning and so biased. Did you bully people in high school and make fun this way? Seriously, this gives more ammunition to the right regarding the HATE from the left.... gee.. happy holidays.
Wrong once again - just me
[ In Reply To ..]
It never amazes me how much you try to turn things around and make them something they are not.

No, I didn't get the term from Fox. Have heard/used the term for years and years.

An elitist is not a good thing. For the ones who "think" they are better they would say it means intelligent, educated, but alas that is all in your minds.

Elitist - The belief that certain persons or members of certain classes or groups deserve favored treatment by virtue of their perceived superiority, as in intellect, social status, or financial resources.

What I should have written was her elitist attitude. Which is NOT a nice thing. Especially since the people who think they are elitist (above others) are not.

And that is something liberals will never understand.
Intelligence vs elitism - NJ
[ In Reply To ..]
Unfortunately, intelligent people get that term thrown at them by people who would rather sit and have a beer with a cowboy.

I like listening to people with higher IQ's than me. To others, that's just scary and elitist. Go figure.

1. Rachel Maddow, who likes have people like Pat Buchanan on her show, is highly educated and very smart. Her political views may differ from yours, but that does not make her a liar.

2. Fox is not unbiased. MSNBC is largely liberal and Fox is largely conservative. Fox stages stories (see recent posts with links to videos exposing staged news, and the ones of pictures of crowds Fox claims were at one event but were proven to be from another). Fox is untrustworthy as a news source.

Examples of Fox faux pas have been given many times on this board. If you missed 'em, you aren't paying attention.

NJ
Yup, that's that slimy little bugger - just me

I don't trust him as far as I can throw him. People can go look up the information for themselves to get at the truth. There is a motive behind what he is saying. I would never ever have him as my medical doctor as I do not believe he is looking out for the best interest of people, I feel he is looking out for the best interest of himself ($$$) and Fox's owner Murdock. Pushing a vaccine that Murdock just happens to own stock in the company that makes it. I have never ever once seen him talk about the dangers of the stuff he is pushing.

Rachel Maddow. I don't think I called her a liar. She may be educated, but like others who are educated I think (me personally) I think she's wrong on a lot of issues. I can't stand her attitude. When I watched her, Mathews, and Olberman all the time they always did have Buchanan on. Some of what he says I agree with, other things I don't. And speaking of Mathews, I just heard him tonight. Talk about racist. Big time! Commenting on how no black people are going to the book signing of Sarah Palin in Michigan. First, who cares whether black, white, Hispanic, or Indian people attend a book signing. And two, did he stay there all day and watch every person looking to see whether they were white or of another race. That is total racist. Besides I never see any black people on his show and someone should have asked him how many black people watch your show. You know just when people are starting to move forward he has to make some stupid racist comment like this. But I guess I should have expected that from someone who gets a shiver up his leg and the mere mention of the name Obama. And people talk and make fun of Beck because he cried. Chris Mathews said "You're not an American if you don't cry when you hear Obama speak". Okay, didn't mean to get off subject. Just heard Mathews say that tonight and I about gagged.

Personally I like Rachel because she's a very handsome woman. She speaks well. I don't agree with her political viewpoints but I am not saying she is a liar. I just don't agree with her.

I agree with your comments about Fox/MSNBC. They appeal to different crowds. But while you believe Fox to be untrustworthy, I feel the same way about MSNBC. They don't report the whole news story, just the bits and pieces they want you to see. And they report incorrect information. One of the main ones I can remember is the story about the black guy who was carrying a gun at some event. Fox gave the whole story, and even interviewed the guy asking why he was doing that. MSNBC cut out everything so you would not know it was a black man (only focused on his shirt and the gun, cut everything out from the collar above and his sleeves)and portrayed him to be an "angry white man with a gun after Obama". It was a disgrace. I can't tell you how many times I've heard Contessa just flat out report incorrect items, and how many times I have heard Olberman yelling at the top of his lungs about people on Fox, Bush, etc. One time he was yelling something about a degree. It's really too bad. Used to like the three of them until the elections. I think they were unfair to Hillary and everyone except Obama.

Anyway...not saying Fox always tells the truth. Won't watch many of the shows, but at least Fox does have guests from all political parties. MSNBC does not.

Didn't Fox do this again just a week or so ago (sm) - Nikki

after Jon Stewart exposed them regarding Michelle Bachmann? At some point, when an "accident" is happening multiple times in a month, it's not an accident; it's an attempt to purposely mislead their audience.

There is a total lack of real evidence that young children even benefit from flu shots.  A systematic review of 51 studies involving 260,000 children age 6 to 23 months found no evidence that the flu vaccine is any more effective than a placebo.
