Ebola scare shuts down buildings at Southwestern College, students under quarantine

Posted: Oct 16, 2014

I hope this proves to be untrue.

Reports on this - quarantine

[ In Reply To ..]
fail to explain how their isolated student had direct contact with Amber Vinson's body fluids. The College does not define what it means by quarantine. How are they isolating those 20 students? Are they being held in separate rooms from each other, or are they all being housed in some kind of make-shift ward? Will they be held captive for a full 21 days? Does the college intend to refund pro-rated tuition fees since they are refusing to allow them entrance to class? The US is in the peak of the enterovirus season with one-fourth of all CA cases being in San Diego County. Did the college get that memo?

Sheesh.

San Diego also received A LOT of those illegal aliens this past summer. Most of them ended up being processed there after being bussed from Texas. Some stayed in SD County, others were shipped elsewhere around the United States to undisclosed locations. It's apparently a big secret.

So the CA refugee kids are responsible for - SW College hysteria?

[ In Reply To ..]
Typical Tpub logic. FYI. EVD68 has been circulating around the US since 1987. Current outbreak started in the US Midwest heartland. Breitbart's posse of child refugee stalkers has turned up no new evidence since the last time we discussed this non-issue a week or two ago, only the same old disconnected innuendo.
You need to re-read that post. - Talk about logic...
[ In Reply To ..]
SW College was not mentioned in that post.
Of course it wasn't. That post was an off-topic - highjack attempt.
[ In Reply To ..]
It only seemed logical for the reply to steer the thread back to the discussion at hand, that being the quarantine panic being played out on the SW College campus.
You can call them refugees. - We call them illegal aliens.

We also call it Fort Hood terrorism, not workplace violence.
We don't need no education. We don't need no - thought control.

I met my husband years ago doing volunteer work for a refugee resettlement program. We both now continue that work and are processing a couple of dozen unaccompanied minor asylum applications from Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador. One of those cases is a 9-year-old girl who was gang raped by 7 men in her village. Two of those men murdered her parents and her grandmother. People generally don't migrate thousands of miles on foot to get higher paying jobs. I know a refugee when I see one, so I could care less about who Tpubs call aliens or what they think about Fort Hood.

You may think differently about the big picture if you lived in a border city and saw your town overrun by illegals who are involved in gangs, gang rapes, robberies, murders, drunk driving violations, no driving licenses, etc., etc., etc. There are always 2 sides to a story.
The bigger picture - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
is what I see every time I step out my front door. I live in a sprawling minority-majority international metropolis in Texas that resettles more refugees than any other destination in the state. The neighborhood has a rainbow of diverse residents from 82 countries that speak 16 languages within a 3 square mile area, 3 mosques, a buddhist temple, a Hindu educational center. It makes more sense to me that we help our neighbors attain legal status and English literacy, have full access to medical services, avoid starvation by joining the mainstream work force, become home and business owners, contribute to the federal and local tax bases, pursue higher education, and enjoy success their hard work and determination deserves. You might be surprised how equal opportunity tends to keep gang activities and crime rates in check. Yes, I agree. There are always 2 sides to a story.
Key words in your post... - SM
[ In Reply To ..]
..."attain legal status..."

Yes, that is the key. I welcome all the diversity you mentioned plus more. That's what has made America so unique for 238 years. My only problem is people coming to America illegally. It is a slap in the face to everyone who has followed the law to become an American citizen. If the illegal aliens have broken the law to get into this country, how do you think they're going to respect and uphold the law once they're here? If they come here legally and go through all the proper channels to attain legal status, I will be their biggest cheerleader.
The key word you missed in that post is - refugees
[ In Reply To ..]
who often arrive without travel documents but qualify for asylum, a legal status. For example, a man running for his life from certain execution for bogus political crimes after a regime change who does not have the time or opportunity to stop by the embassy to get a visa, so he got help after arrival. Been married to him for 25 years. Sorry, but that alien mentality does not apply here.
And how many people does that scenario apply to? - sm

We think it's funny how conservatives on the far-right wing fringe conflate religion with politics and want to elect Mormon bishops and preachers talking about the messiah.

Hey conservatives: We don't elect messiahs; that's your thing. Try to remember that liberals don't think like you do. Pretending like you know exactly what we're thinking and then spewing out your own religious conservative messiah drivel is about the funniest thing written on this board in a long, long time.

Time to call Babs. She's a liberal.

[ In Reply To ..]
She should have gone with her first gut instinct: "I shouldn’t say this at Christmastime." She shouldn't say it anytime but even with the tiny bit of context the Washington Times provided in the link it's clear she was saying the president has constantly been held to impossibly high standards and unrealistic expectations. That is not something his supporters do. BTW, Babs is no liberal. Ask any real liberal about Barack Obama and they will tell you he is a moderate. Not only is he not a Messiah, the secular party never thinks of its politics perceptions in a religious context. Again, that's a winger thing.
I wish I could tell you what else he is not. - sm

Even though I am conservative, I appreciate what Barbara Walters did for women. She opened many doors for many women in journalism and other careers that were once dominated by men. She's had a very successful career, and for you to call her a "senile old biddy" shows blatant disrespect for a woman whose goal was to bring us the news. I sincerely hope you didn't mean to write those ugly words.
Are you equally shocked by the offensive words used on this board to describe our president? - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
"Senile old biddy" used to describe an aging retired hot bag of wind has-been such as Barbara seems fairly tame in comparison to what is served up here daily regarding President Obama.

Not saying it was you who posted any of it, but we liberals sincerely hope conservatives don't mean to call the President of the United States all the choice names posted about him on a daily basis.

...calling B. Walters a senile old biddy was perhaps in poor taste and hyperbolic. Mea culpa, and I'm sorry to any other senile old biddies whom I have offended. But anyone who's seen her on TV in the last couple of years has to admit that she shows signs of dementia. Hearing her say that she thought that the president was "the next messiah" in an interview with the odious Piers Morgan isn't the bombshell that conservative blogs seem to think it is. It's just the meanderings of a woman with hardened arteries. She needs to retire gracefully.
Babs said "the media" regarded President Obama as the messiah. - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
The first paragraph of the article in the link trying to somehow prove that liberals think Obama is the messiah is quoted below.

Quote: Barbara Walters admitted on a broadcast appearance with Piers Morgan that maybe Christmas wasn’t the time to say it, but it’s true – the media regarded President Obama as the “next messiah” because of his promises and policies.

Babs was clearly speaking for "the media," and although Babs has taken it upon herself there to speak for all "the media," I am quite certain that there are many members of "the media" who most certainly did not agree with what she stated there, being as a large chunk of "the media" on the radical right had proclaimed Obama to be the Antichrist (thusly absolving their prior pronouncement of Bill Clinton, I guess?). Babs didn't even limit herself to the liberal "media;" she makes her statement with a very broad stroke saying "the media." Be that as it may and still, Babs certainly never remotely says anything about either the Democratic Party or Democrats or liberals with her statement. While conservatives are certainly free to continue to believe the ludicrous idea that liberals conflate religion with politics in the way that conservatives do, consider the fact that the GOP is also hammering away about every 4 years that the Democrats have little to no reference to God in the Democratic Party platform.

A couple months after the GOP was defeated by Barack Obama for the second time, Governor Bobby Jindal of Louisiana warned the GOP that it "must stop being the stupid party."

Time to call Bob. He's a conservative.

According to NewMax it's only 30 and - guess what?

The ones they list are all in Africa (see below), though I did hear Jamaica is considering a ban and I think Columbia has one. My question would be what good does it do for 30 African countries to have an air travel ban when they all share ground borders with each other that are impossible to patrol?

Lest we get confused like the GOP reps did in the hearing today, NO, we are not talking about the a porous common border between West Africa, Mexico and the US and NO, we are not talking about a porous common border between West Africa, Canada and the US. What we are talking about is a continent with 11.7 million square miles of ground area desperate West Africans under an air travel ban can ROAM undetected below the radar screen.

I can't think of a faster way to create explosive West African ID theft, phony passport and lucrative ground transport jitney service markets than trying to corral them in a quarantined country. Where there's a will, there's a way, and driving this virus and its carriers underground is probably one of the fastest ways possible to spread the epidemic across the globe.
