Ebola outbreak fuels concerns over health risks along US-Mexico border

Posted: Aug 5, 2014

Yes, this is from FOX News. Go ahead and flame me. I am NOT intimidated by liberal extremists. This is information that needs to be out there regardless of the messenger. Don't you wish Bill Clinton AND George Bush would have done something about bin Laden BEFORE 9/11?;

the lack of healthcare checks - on these people

[ In Reply To ..]
is appalling and downright criminal, IMO. Health risks are not something that should be partisan. This could affect all of us. A democrat/independent.

It's not spread as easily as other viruses. It's more - like HIV. You have to be in - S/m

[ In Reply To ..]
contact with bodily fluids to get it. You're not going to catch it from casual contact. A lot of the hype about it is just fear-mongering.

I guess you didn't hear about some of the illegals not knowing about - general hygiene.

[ In Reply To ..]
Gross!

I believe many true Merricans - also have questionable hygiene

[ In Reply To ..]
Whether they know about it or just choose to ignore it, who knows, but I reject categorically that being an illegal = poor hygiene, unless their illegal employer refuses to allow them access to methods to clean up.
There's more poor hygiene walking around in - Walmart than crossing the border illegally.
[ In Reply To ..]
...

I don't think we Americans have cornered the - market on personal hygiene, so -

[ In Reply To ..]
it's pretty tacky to go saying that just because someone isn't in the country legally, they aren't clean. What a bigoted statement you made.

I would prefer to err on the side of caution - thank you very much

[ In Reply To ..]
I don't see why a health screening is so unreasonable. Better safe than sorry

Nah, it's just an excuse to justify treating these - refugees like trash, which makes US trash.

[ In Reply To ..]
No, it is just common sense - thank you very much
[ In Reply To ..]
requiring a health screen to enter this country, legally or illegally, is not "treating refugees like trash." You think we should just open the borders and let any and all in without any screening whatsoever?
Unless you're sitting right there with the immigration - officials, how do you claim to -
[ In Reply To ..]
know what is and isn't being screened?

Hysteria does NOT equal "common sense".

Turn the channel - open your mind

It's been repeatedly proven that Faux News does NOT broadcast facts.

To even SUGGEST that those at our borders might carry ebola is not only ridiculous propaganda but it shines brightly on the ignorance of those not bothering to educate themselves on the virus and on the plight of those at our borders.

BTW, I'm going to venture a guess your family tree didn't start on the soil of America. We ARE a country of IMMIGRANTS... Give us your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to be free.

I hope the light shines in your brain one day and you realize getting your news from Faux and thinking it's factual is simply delusional.

She should also open a geography book. Ebola - is in AFRICA, not Mexico. nm

[ In Reply To ..]
XYZ

You should open a newspaper - or turn on TV.

[ In Reply To ..]
It's here in 2 cases. It's coming in more.
You've got to be kidding, right? The two "cases" - AppalledByIgnorance
[ In Reply To ..]
that are here in the US are US healthcare workers who were in AFRICA, and contacted the disease from PATIENTS. They were flown here on specially equipped AIRCRAFT, covered with protective clothing and gear, and put into ISOLATION UNITS at a hospital.

All other "suspected cases" (people with flu-like symptoms who had traveled through Africa) were checked out and found NOT to have the virus.

Yes, I've seen the Fox News version of all the Ebola hysteria, and they are a large reason why all this over-the-top fear is being perpetuated.

The best advice on this subject for you would be to broaden your news-gathering sources, and learn to interpret said news for yourself more often, instead of allowing it to be spoon-fed to you.
You keep telling yourself that. - NM

NM
Believe what you like then, and just keep on - scaring yourself to death.
[ In Reply To ..]
Ignorance isn't always bliss. Sometimes it can be downright dangerous.

You should talk. It's not in "AFRICA" - SM

[ In Reply To ..]
A disease is not in just one country. The ebola virus is being carried into the US through the people coming through the border. Do not try and ridicule a person when it's blatantly clear you have no idea what you are talking about.

Also, Ebola is not just in Africa, it is now in the United States.
Two cases are in the U.S. because they were - intentionally brought here to - sm

receive a higher level of care, including an experimental vaccine that, so far, has IMPROVED THEIR CONDITION.

People from Sierra Leone and other affected countries in Africa are NOT just walking across the border.

(And FYI, that big continent south of Mexico, in the Southern Hemisphere, is known as "South America". It is NOT Africa.)

Honestly. The fear-machine is running at full tilt, here. Your chances of being struck by lightning, attacked by killer bees (which ARE in the US), or getting mugged and shot at your neighborhood ATM or McDonald's are far, far greater than the chance that you will ever in your lifetime even come into casual contact with someone with the Ebola virus.

"Sheesh!" with a capital "S".
I know - Person you replied to
[ In Reply To ..]
They really do need to learn geography. Why they think South America is Africa I have no idea. Maybe if they learned where the countries were, and they actually understood the situation going on they would not have made such a ludicrous statement.

Just to clarify: Africa is not a country. - nm
[ In Reply To ..]
They'll never believe you. - eom
[ In Reply To ..]
Unless of course, one of their outlets tells them to believe it. Let them think it's a country or a town, even.
Oops you replied to the wrong person. You meant to - reply to the one I replied to

Did You Know That There Are Now "New Concerns AboutAug 08, 2012
No?  Neither did I.  But apparently, according to Fox News, there are "new concerns" about this because there's not enough red, white, and blue in the athlete's clothing choices (Gabby Douglas in PURPLE, for goodness sake!) and not enough flag waving by the athletes....and have you noticed you're not hearing enough chants of "USA...USA...USA"!?  Good grief--I watched Aly Reisman(?) win the gold last night, and her outfit was practically a sparkly US flag! Health Insurance Is A Poor Measure Of Health Care.Sep 14, 2011
On Tuesday, the Census Bureau released its annual report on health insurance coverage in the United States. News media widely misconstrued the data and presented the problems facing the nation's health care system through a distorted lens. Many major news outlets made a basic error when reporting on the Census Bureau study. The Los Angeles Times wrote that "the number of Americans with no health insurance rose in 2010 to 49.9 million from 49 million the year before." But the figure c ...
