Shame budget for auditing recipients was slashed. - Cool Dude just wiped out his free ride, tho.

Maybe Fox News will profile more of them. Each one tossed off into the cold hard surf is fine with me.

The "new" face of food stamps, my butt. - Wow, thanks for the newsflash.

[ In Reply To ..]
As if this is a new phenomenon.

Good Lord.

Are they that out of touch, that they're just - now noticing this?

[ In Reply To ..]
Or are they trying to turn a very old problem into a shiny new one?

How to kill food for children programs: 1. Underfund - them. 2. Pass laws to cripple them

[ In Reply To ..]
so badly they can't do their job efficiently.

3. Cut funding again and again, the less oversight of beneficiaries and less adequately they meet the need the better.

4. Appoint top people to run them who don't believe in them and agree to help destroy them.

5. Drive off the remaining employees who believed they were part of an important mission by making it impossible to do the job they signed on for.

5. Replace those with bad ones. Smile when you hear they're looking at pornography at work, etc.

6. Pass that word to the press as just one of hundreds of revelations "proving" the program is worthless and corrupt--for just as many years as it takes.

7. Tell voters, repeatedly, again for just as many years as it takes, that the program allows shiftless adults avoid working while they live off the public teat.

8. Never, never, NEVER mention all the physically and mentally handicapped people, much less the children, who simply cannot take care of themselves and whose very lives are at stake.

OP, these programs exist to feed those who CANNOT - feed themselves. How about canceling

[ In Reply To ..]
surfer dude's ticket? Just him and those like him?

Why attack the programs that heal the sick and feed the hungry? You know, old-time traditional morality? Didn't your parents and grandparents once believe in it? What happened?

That's what I meant. He's a big boy. Let him get a job. - OP

[ In Reply To ..]
and he said he's not going in that direction right now. You bet I have resentment. He can get a frigging job. There are people who need them. He doesn't.
Exactly. And you're burning resentful-hot now - that you've been reminded--yet again. nm

PhDs and management on food stamps. sm - we

[ In Reply To ..]
But there are plenty of PhDs and management types on food stamps now and/or going to soup kitchens. It is called underemployment, unemployment, and/or offshoring. All you need to do is look at the various boards on this forum and see plenty of hardworking MTs who have had to resort to food stamps.

Is this the same post from yesterday, but with the title and OP changed?

At any rate, every state has different food stamp rules. A person in the situation of the surfer guy would only get 3 months of food stamps in my state and that would be once a year.

If you google the word "rattlife", you will find the surfer's band. If you also do some more googling, you will find plenty of recording stars and actors who actually were on food stamps/assistance before they became famous (either as children or adults). Ever hear of starving artists?

Not saying that this guy will ever be a star, but just saying....

Something is fishy about this story. If we are to believe... - oldtimer

[ In Reply To ..]
Surfer Dude's story we would have to believe that his only income was $200 in SNAP benefits....and he used them for a bang up lobster party for his friends? What did he use for food for the rest of the month? Does he sleep under the boardwalk? Sorry, I am not buying it.

Tell someone who cares. - I don't. Buy it or don't.

Record Campaign SpendingOct 26, 2012
I might be the only one, but this leaves a bad taste in my mouth. The amount of money spent campaigning in this country is ridiculous.  And for what?  Do those ads even do anything?  Do they change peoples' minds?  I don't think they do.  All they ever seem to me is a childish tit-for-tat that makes us all look stupid. It just feels like both sides are trying to create the ultimate Hollywood film, and whoever's movie is better wins the prize. I'm aw ...

Medicare End Of Life SpendingDec 11, 2012
Original thread is getting pretty far down and I am curious because I have yet to hear a politican other than Mitch Daniels bring up this issue without screaming about killing grandma or using death panels.  When Medicare spends 25% of it's resources on end of life treatment then it's time for everyone to discuss this issue in a reasonable fashion.  Personally, and as one who is on Medicare, I feel that everyone who applies should have to include their advanced directives whi ...

Government Spending And False Claims.Mar 14, 2012
There is an official spreadshet of government spending at http://www.fms.treas.gov/mts/MTS.xls.  This should be examined before making false claims such as those that come from the right-wing echo chamber of late.  This spreadsheet shows that George H.W. The House Passed The Spending BillMar 06, 2013
Republicans passed it. Democrats were against it because it still included the $85 billion sequester dollars.  "The Senate isn't going to accept this bill," Senate Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said during debate.  Despite Democratic complaints, the House passed the bill easily in a 267-151 vote in which 53 Democrats supported it, likely because it will help avoid a government shutdown. Just 14 Republicans voted against it. Dems wanted Sequester, now they don't! ...

Defense Budget Loaded With Irrelevant SpendingDec 31, 2009
Obama promised hope and change, but what Americans have gotten is hoax and chains.  Perhaps the Glib One misspoke...or his Teleprompter malfunctioned. Whatever the case, more of your tax dollars (or dollars that will be borrowed from China, actually, because your tax dollars are GONE) are going to this sort of thing, tacked onto the Defense funding bill.  This nefarious practice is done so that Republicans are forced to vote for the pork or vote against funding the military: $5 milli ...

House Passes 6-month Spending BillSep 13, 2012

Healthcare's Bipartisan Problem. Almost Half Of Healthcare SpendingJan 13, 2017
healthiest half of the population consumes only 3% of health care costs. The only alternative would appear to be taxpayer subsidies. It is next to impossible, politically, to take away freebees once in place. Income redistribution continues to increase. The 2010 health law, also known as Obamacare, forced insurers to sell coverage to anyone, at the same price, regardless of their risk of incurring big claims. That provision was popular. Not so were rules requiring nearly everyone to have ins ...

Men And MoneyJan 05, 2012
As a single women nearing 50, and having MANY male friends, there is one observation that just MUST be made.
