Chicago surpasses 100th homicide of the year.

overnight, surpassing the 100th homicide of the year.
38-year-old Samuel Head and a 20-year-old man - whose name has not been released yet - were both shot and killed at a house party at 65th and Drexel around 1 a.m. Saturday morning. Police say two men in hoodies fired shots into a crowd, then took off. One victim suffered from a gunshot wound to the chest, while the other was hit in the torso and face. They both died at the scene. Head's girlfriend was taken to the hospital in good condition with a graze wound to her thigh.
Police say both men were documented gang members. No arrests have been made.
Three people were also shot at 74th and Baldwin around 8 a.m. Saturday. A 20-year-old and 39-year-old man were taken to Northwestern Hospital in good condition, while a 15-year-old girl was transported in stable condition. Police say people in two vehicles were actually shooting at each other. Charges are pending against one suspect, police said.
According to the Chicago Police Department, Chicago has seen 90 murders so far this year, compared with 96 at the same time last year. Some deaths that the Cook County Medical Examiner rules as homicides are excluded from those figures, including individuals killed in police-involved shootings, and freeway shootings, which are investigated by the Illinois State Police.
Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said the high-tech strategic support centers recently rolled out in some districts are showing some positive results, but it's clear there is much more work to be done.

59 days into the year and already 100 dead. That's - almost 12 a week.

because only law abiding citizens follow the law.
It like saying printing money isn't working, so we need to print more money. Gun control laws aren't working so I guess we need more gun control laws.
This is and never has been about gun control. This is and always has been about gun abolition.

I see you read the same statistics I did. And that, of course, is just the rates in cities with a population over 250,000.
Get into the medium cities, and I can't help notice that the majority of them are in red states where the gun laws are permissive. Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, South Carolina, Arkansas...
Something about the pro-gun lobby's claims are just not adding up.

The pro-gun crown love to trot out the murder rate in Chicago to support their position for eliminating gun control laws. And indeed, the murder rate in Chicago is much too high, as it is in any city.
However, something the pro-gun lobby always manages to - ahem - forget, is the 'rate' part. You see, Chicago in 2015 had a population of 2.7 million people. That puts their murder *rate* (per 100,000) at 15.09.
The highest murder rate that same year was 49.91, in St. Louis, Missouri. That's more than three times higher than Chicago's. Guess what the gun laws were like in St. Louis. No permit required to purchase. No registration. No license required. Concealed carry by permit. Open carry, no permit required. Essentially no restrictions. So how does that jibe with the "no gun zones are hotbeds of gun murders" claim? Not so good, eh?
But maybe that's just a statistical blip. Oh, look. New Orleans, Louisiana has a murder rate of 38.75. Well over double that of Chicago. So what are their gun laws like? Well, golly, pretty much identical to those of St. Louis - virtually non-existent.
Um, OK. Well, what about Memphis, Tennessee, with a rate of 21.38? Ooops, no, same permissive gun laws as St. Louis and NOLA.
I'm sorry, what was the pro-gun lobby saying about Chicago's murder rate? Hmm?

Chicago Must Hire 111 FirefightersMay 18, 2011CHICAGO --
A federal appeals court ruled on Friday that the Chicago Fire Department must hire 111 African Americans who passed a firefighters entrance exam 16 years ago and pay millions of dollars to thousands more who took and passed the same test.
The Seventh U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruling was the latest blow to the city, which has been on the losing end of court decisions regarding the 1995 test for years, including a 2005 ruling by a federal judge who said the test discriminate ...
