Hotel upgrades?

I have just booked our family into a hotel, similar to the Wisconsin Dells for Christmas Eve/Day. When I called, the attendant said that they have a lot of availability for that weekend. We just booked a standard room. Has anyone ever asked for an upgrade into a fancier room and gotten it? The big question is HOW on earth do you do it????

You would be highly unlikely to get an upgrade unless they fill and then overbook their standard rooms. Even then, they would more be more likely to upgrade a frequent customer if there is one, otherwise likely someone who booked early. Upgrades were usually worked out in the morning before checkin started so we knew who was going into what room.

If they have lots of vacant standard rooms, there's no reason for them to upgrade anyone. We never upgraded anyone just because they asked. Sorry.

you can always ask, does not mean you will get it - assuming you mean free tho?

Any visiter is welcome to ask for an upgrade and if one is available and you are willing to pay, then you could be accommodated; however, if you mean will they just upgrade at the price you booked for, that is unlikely. That's sorta like expecting a 4 star buffet for the price of a Big Mac. Not gonna happen.

It is Christmas...

We stayed there last year and the room we booked is nice enough...we won't be in the room a LOT. My kids are more concerned about the water park part of the resort. I just wondered if there was something you said at the front desk that magically got you upgraded. If not...no big whoop.
