Bachmann Compares Self to Serial Killer

Maybe there can be a history round in the Republican primary debates. In an interview after she announced her candidacy, Michele Bachmann promised to act in the spirit of Waterloo, Iowa’s, John Wayne. But it turns out John Wayne Gacy, the serial killer, lived in Waterloo, while John Wayne, the movie star, lived in Winterset, nearly a three-hour drive away. "Well, what I want them to know is just like John Wayne was from Waterloo, Iowa. That's the kind of spirit that I have, too,” said Bachmann.

Are any mistakes or misspeaks allowed at all? This sounds petty and silly even to me, one who doesn't support Bachmann. The way I look at it is if you can produce a candidate who has never made a flub or blunder, then you have a right to make note of the opponent's mess ups. If not, be prepared to defend your candidate's blunders.

Overall, I think this kind of nonsense is what irritates the American voter. Does this have ANYTHING to do with the issues we face? Most Americans really don't care.

Aside from Bachmann being hypocritical and completely out of touch, her tendency to botch up American history that should be well covered in grades 3 through middle school speaks volumes as to either her willingness to manipulate facts to fit her agenda or be completely and totally misinformed, regardless of whatever fancy degrees or important careers she may have held in her life.

I agree... people jumping all over a public figure because of a slip-up (i.e., W's "noocaler" which I thought was ridiculous... we all know what he meant, Kennedy's "I am a donut," or O declaring his muslim faith) is extremely irritating; however, this trend to distort historical facts to fit agenda as of late (demonstrated by Ms. Bachmann as well as SP) is more irritating and borders on sad (and scary considering some people's willingness to accept it... even believe it). Even though the John Wayne (oops... Gacy) botch-up reflects pop culture history, she's got a pretty good record of having her own version of any kind of history.

I do believe Hillary Clinton got busted for saying that she was dodging bullets on a trip to Bosnia yet the video clearly shows the Clintons walking without caution and obviously no bullets whizzing their heads. Also....Obama said his uncle helped liberate Auschwitz, but the death camp was freed by soviet troops. Now that is pertinent historical facts taught in school.

Let's stay on topic... that topic being Bachmann who has a well-know record on distorting historical facts to fit her TP agenda or woo a crowd. Look it up. This is the history covered in grades 3-8 I'd guess. Now she has moved on to distorting pop culture, again to woo a crowd.

It is her home turf. Is it inconceivable that she would be so blissfully unaware of such a high profile case where the state released the criminal on parole and he went on to rape and murder 33 victims, most of whom were kids. No school needed here. It's like public officials in California not knowing that Charles Manson was ever there.

was the official announcement of her candidacy for POTUS. For someone who "learned everything she ever needed to know" in her hometown of Waterloo, one would think somewhere along the way she would have learned the difference between Waterloo and Winterset and between a world-famous Hollywood icon and a gay rapist clown serial killer....ESPECIALLY before invoking his "spirit," trying to embody it and claim it as her own.

It is not as though Gacy was some obscure Waterloo figure. He was part of Waterloo's underbelly where wife-swapping, prostitution, pornography, drugs and (in Gacy's case) child sexual exploitation/abuse were indulged. He was a prolific criminal even before committing the 33 murders with which he was charged. The crime spree occurred over a 10-year span and his story was the subject of multiple books and movies.

Introducing Gacy as part of her candidacy announcement makes one wonder just how aware she is of the seamier side of her own hometown, which she claims to know so well, and the history of its most famous crime. MB's own extensive history of such "blunders" will be showcased throughout this campaign and is something she needs to come to grips with sooner rather than later, unless she doesn't care whether or not she makes a complete fool out of herself while basking in the glare of the media spotlights. The fact that she could not even make it past the initial announcement without screwing it up does not bode well for her.

How many politicians haven't messed up something when speaking in public? I do believe Obama made a huge mistake of saying a service man was alive when he was actually killed while in service and had to apologize to the family...not to mention pronouncing Corps wrong. Had you read that part, you would know that he left Chicago in 1965 at age 23 and moved to Waterloo. His life in Chicago up to that point was crime-free. Once in Waterloo, he had his first gay sexual encounter and went on to became involved with wife-swapping, porno, prostitution, drugs and sexual exploitation and abuse of children while involved with the Waterloo Jaycees. No need to repeat the sordid details. It's all there for the reading. In 1968, he was accused of sexually assaulting two 15-yo and 16-yo boys. He hired someone to beat one of them up to discourage him from testifying against him at trial. He was conviced of sodomy in 1968 and sentenced to 10 years, but the State of Iowa in their infinite wisdom released him on parole with 12 months probation in 1970. He moved back to Chicago afer his release where he then commenced to violate his probation by being charged with another sexual assault of a teenager. Once again, Iowa dropped the ball. They never found out about those charges, declared his probation as successfully completed, had his criminal records sealed and restored him back to full free jailbird status...and 33 murders later, as they say, the rest is history.

This is the real John Wayne (Gacy) Bachmann sees as her opportunistic kindred spirit.
