How do you exercise?

Posted: May 2, 2011

A lot of us MLS' are blessed to work at home and have a fair amount of freedom in our day, but it still can be hard to find time to fit exercise in.  It seems even harder now that pay across the board has decreased and we're needing to work more hours to keep our heads above water.  What things do you do for exercise?  As you can tell from my Nickname...I Zumba.  :)

Treadmill and Wii - dmz

Wii Dance has kicked my butt:) I have bad knees, so can no longer do some of the hippity-hoppity dance moves. Got a treadmill and have an exercise bike also. Also use the push lawn mower to do some of the grass - good way to work up a sweat! :)

Way to mix it up! - ZumbaSandy

Have you tried the Zumba for Wii? I haven't, but some of my students have and say it's really fun.

Dog walking a half mile in the morning and another half in the evening, and a few quick ones up the block through the day.

Walking is wonderful, especially with your best friends! I bet they set the pace a bit quicker, too. :)

Well â€Â¦ they are very high energy to say the least but they are easy to walk because they each way 13 pounds. The two boys are part Jack Russell and some kind of terrier and their sister who we got last Christmas is a Tzu and poodle mix. They are local celebrities. All the neighbors come out or call out from their doors when we go by. Our street is a dead end and we go through a bluff of trees and onto a beautiful school yard that is a few acres with a view of beautiful farms. We meet our friends with their dog who is an adorable Pomeranian. The boy who lives by the school yard comes with us too. He comes over to my house every day after school and plays with them. He calls them on the phone and I put the phone on the floor and they bark back to him. He got a harmonica for his birthday and he brings it along on the walks and plays it.

Kudos to everyone who does something to get those joints and muscles moving, other than our hands and feet ;) - even if it's for a half hour a day, just something. It is so important to keep the blood circulating and blood/oxygen to the brain.

Five to six times a week. Moderate to heavy weight training (great for zee bones!), 30 min of lower body cardio (mix of eliptical, bike, treadmill) and 15 min upper body cardio (eliptical arm machine), 400 reps of ab exercises (upper, lower and obliques. I take the pups for a 1 1/2 mile walk (well, they drag me LOL) once a week. I can't do aerobics/Zumba, jumping or running because of my back, but have taken a spin class or two - holy smokes do those kick your butt!

I work 12 hours a day, but do my best to MAKE time to go in the late afternoon. I haven't found a better way to blow of steam and ease tension than hitting the gym. This is my means of getting out and being social as well. I sleep sooo much better, too - no more middle insomnia =)

That's quite an impressive routine! - ZumbaSandy

You're awesome for MAKING time, even though you're so busy! I always feel soooo much better after a good workout...I don't care how poopy I felt before. Like you, I used to suffer from insomnia, but, lol, now that I'm teaching classes at night...I'm OUT as soon as my lights go off!!!

Two-mile dog walk, WII, 1-minute things... - I try

Maybe not always every day, but when I can fit that stuff in, which is multiple times a week. I do have quick exercises and stretches on index cards and every hour during my shift I grab a card and do whatever it says, either a rep of 25-50 or 1 minute. It's a healthier alternative to running to the snack cabinet like I used to do. : )

I had not heard about Zumba for WII--will have to check it out.

I take a Muay Thai class twice a week... - Kendra

[ In Reply To ..]
It is a kickboxing class, so lots and lots of cardio. We usually do some combination of kicks and punches in 4 minute rounds with a 1 minute "break" in between rounds, in which we do sit-ups, crunches, body squats, push-ups, planks or some other form of torture. This goes on for an hour and I usually try to run 1 mile beforehand. On my off days, I try to run a couple of miles or put in an hour on my elliptical machine at least 3 days per week. I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Muay Thai class and encourage anyone to take one. It is a GREAT workout and I rid myself of a lot of stress beating on the heavy bag.

I do Shaun T Insanity Program five days per week and Billy Blanks Insane Abs two days per week. I sometimes find it hard to fit in, but I'm in my late 30s and have the best body I have ever had, that DRIVES me to keep going.

Exercise EquipmentAug 11, 2013
I just wanted to share, since people are always talking about trying to lose weight or exercise.  I wanted to firm up my tummy so I bought the Gold's Gym Ab Wheel, cost was $7.99 at my local Wal-Mart.  This little inexpensive thing is a WONDERFUL workout tool!  It has not only firmed my abs/sides but it works your shoulders and back and arms.  You know the flab we get in the front of our arms/shoulders that is annoying with tank tops as we get older?  Mine is all fi ...

If Only I Could Get Motivated To Exercise...May 25, 2015
I was wondering if there is anything anyone does to get themselves motivated and in a walking or exercising routine.  I have worked at home for so long.  I was always a very small, skinny person, but in the last seven years or so I have gained 10 pounds a year, and so now I need to lose about 70 pounds! Little by little I have gained the weight, and now I weigh as much as I weighed during pregnancy.  I'd like to try to walk for an hour or so each day, but I'm having a ha ...

Pool Exercise/aerobics...SMSep 05, 2014
I've joined a very reasonably priced health club in town ($25 per month) and have been going 2-3 times a week for 1 hour.  I'm about 5 weeks into it, and I'm already seeing positive results.  My upper body, arms/shoulders, already feel better; and a mild sciatic pain on the right has disappeared.  Also, my mood is better and I feel stronger and  more energetic.  I'd urge anyone who has such a program nearby which is affordable to try it.  I final ...

Harry Reid Won't Rule Out Suing Exercise Equipment Maker Over His InjuryJan 22, 2015
Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Thursday made his first public media appearance since an exercise mishap left him with a severely injured eye and four broken ribs. Reid had been working out with resistance bands in his new home earlier this month when one snapped, injuring his right eye and flinging him into a file cabinet, he said. The Nevada Democrat said he expected to be back to full speed soon, and that he planned to run for re-election. But while he was certain about his el ...
