Exercise equipment

Posted: Aug 11, 2013

I just wanted to share, since people are always talking about trying to lose weight or exercise.  I wanted to firm up my tummy so I bought the Gold's Gym Ab Wheel, cost was $7.99 at my local Wal-Mart.  This little inexpensive thing is a WONDERFUL workout tool!  It has not only firmed my abs/sides but it works your shoulders and back and arms.  You know the flab we get in the front of our arms/shoulders that is annoying with tank tops as we get older?  Mine is all firm there as well!  I love this Ab Wheel, lol.  The first time I tried using it, I fell on my face, but I got better at it and now my ENTIRE upper body is just so firm that I thought I should share:)

Thanks for the info. Always leery of trying some of that stuff thinking it might be more of a gimmick than really work. I know I've got to get back to it. Lost 20 lbs before summer but I've gained almost 15 back SIGH!! I just absolutely hate a treadmill, so exercise is just a pain in the butt to me mentally. I had a suggestion from someone once who said to think of it as "Activity" rather than "exercise", maybe that will help because that word exercise makes me cringe!!

I really want to get in shape, but I don't want to lift weights, because my muscles build quickly and I don't want to look like those women body builders, I just don't like that look. I really hate cardio, but I know I should do it.

Weight lifting - sm

Well, I PROMISE you that you will NEVER EVER look like the "women body builders" just by lifting a few weights to tone your body. Those women look like that, because they LIVE to look like that. Their ENTIRE day consists of planning of exactly what goes into their mouth, when to hydrate, when to dehydrate, what supplements to take and on and on and on.

If you tried lifting weights and you felt more bulky, that can happen just because you probably have extra weight and your muscles are forming UNDERNEATH your fat that is stored. If you just give it some time, the muscle weight that you gain will burn the fat that you have. If you have muscles, you can burn fat just by sitting still.

I have been lifting weights for about 6 years and I LOVE it. I love sculpting my body. I hate cardio also and I lift weights 4 days per week, force myself to do cardio 2 days per week and I do nothing 1 day.

Not necessarily true for everyone. - sm

I tend to bulk up more than I like, particularly in my arms, and I don't have extra fat. My weight ranges from 96-100 pounds at 5 feet tall.

My arms and even my chest get gross, so I never work them. I try to work on my butt and legs because I enjoy the extra calorie burning and also because I like those areas to be toned. But my arms? Forget it. :(

My muscles do that, too - sm

I played a lot of sports when I was growing up, so maybe I have muscle memory or something.

you will tone, not bulk up - MTMT

Use low weight and higher reps, not the other way around. The other poster was right about women body builders. They are TRYING to bulk up. They probably lift a lot of weight, and may even take supplements to help, since it really is hard for women to bulk up like men. The other poster had sound advice... weight/resistance a few times a week mixed in with cardio. Remember too that muscle burns more calories than fat, so as you add muscle you will lose the fat. Find something you like for your cardio, like Zumba or swimming. I hate the treadmill, so I'm looking into getting a new bicycle. I used to ride a lot years ago and really enjoyed it, so I'm looking forward to getting back on a bike real soon.

Have fun getting buff!

How long did it take to see results? - Thanks! nm

If Only I Could Get Motivated To Exercise...May 25, 2015
I was wondering if there is anything anyone does to get themselves motivated and in a walking or exercising routine.  I have worked at home for so long.  I was always a very small, skinny person, but in the last seven years or so I have gained 10 pounds a year, and so now I need to lose about 70 pounds! Little by little I have gained the weight, and now I weigh as much as I weighed during pregnancy.  I'd like to try to walk for an hour or so each day, but I'm having a ha ...

Pool Exercise/aerobics...SMSep 05, 2014
I've joined a very reasonably priced health club in town ($25 per month) and have been going 2-3 times a week for 1 hour.  I'm about 5 weeks into it, and I'm already seeing positive results.  My upper body, arms/shoulders, already feel better; and a mild sciatic pain on the right has disappeared.  Also, my mood is better and I feel stronger and  more energetic.  I'd urge anyone who has such a program nearby which is affordable to try it.  I final ...
