Being an MT and getting some exercise...

Posted: Sep 16, 2011

Everybody here knows you spend 90% of you day sitting in one place.  It's not a godo thing.  I am getting swelling around my ankles and my waist isn't getting any smaller.  Thought about a gym or buying a treadmill, but I won't use the treadmill 20 feet away what are my chances of getting into the car in the dead of winter and going anywhere to get exercise??  NIL!  I have a pilates video and a Bob, I think. Harper video.  I have a weight bench in the garage, but will this be enough?  Should I seriously look into a treadmill?  They aren't cheap.  My other issue is finding the time - EVERY DAY!  That is so hard to do when you are trying to make up line counts and break even.  Does anybody do anything interesting to stay in shape or have any suggestions!  Winter's coming and I know my wimpy but just will not go outside to exercise and unfortunately this summer was so dangerously hot, it didn't happen then either.  Please throw out any ideas you have to me!!! I'm 43, not 83, but I have to get up and move everyday or my health will get worse.  TIA!!

I bought the Wii Fit by Nintendo. It is easy to do and right at my fingertips. I love the aerobics section where they have a "free run." You can set it to 10 minutes, 20 minutes or 40 minutes. Every time I have a few minutes during the day, I get on even if it is just for 10 minutes. If you do the 10 minutes 3 times a day, that adds up. Good luck. I know it's hard. Maybe you could get a used treadmill???? Not as expensive anyway.

you will feel so much better your line counts will go up. You can march in place and pump fists for 10 minutes, run up and down your stairs, walk around the house if you're going to the bathroom - go out the back door and come in the front to get there. Also, get a tennis ball and put it between your back an wall to massage away any trigger points. Use the ball on a table to massage around elbows and forearms, where trigger points can mimic carpal tunnel. You'll find that you have plenty of time to get it in once you start.

I am thinking that the only way I am ever gonna do this is to set a time like an appt I won't miss and just make myself do it each day. I just wanna find more than just the treadmill as that gets PRETTY boring after a while. Anyone else having any suggestions for good DVDs???

I haven't tried to do Tae Bo in a while, but I'm thinking I need to pull out my old DVD's of his. You can find them in all sorts of places, or you can go to Billyblanks.com. Definitely start at the beginner section - he will kick your booty, but you'll enjoy it. They're a lot of fun and he's very motivational.
Tae-Bo ROCKS!!! - love billy blanks workouts

You can find his old videos all over ebay for CHEAP!!! You might luck into one of his older workouts on youtube, try that first to see if you like it...but, his workouts are unlike anything anywhere and they are so much fun!!! I have friends who swear by Zumba, but I'm not much into that swinging my hips thing. I like to punch and kick my problems away, feels so empowering.

I really have to pull out my old stuff now. I've gotten very lazy lately my rear is growing larger than it needs to be. Now you're motivating me!
Check your library for DVDs. - Rainy

I get bored pretty quickly with exercise DVDs, so my library helps keep things fresh. Also look for online sites for free videos. I'm drawing a blank on actual websites, other than Real Age. These allow me to try techniques I normally would not.

A lot of us MLS' are blessed to work at home and have a fair amount of freedom in our day, but it still can be hard to find time to fit exercise in.  It seems even harder now that pay across the board has decreased and we're needing to work more hours to keep our heads above water.  What things do you do for exercise?  As you can tell from my Nickname...I Zumba.  :)  ...

I just wanted to share, since people are always talking about trying to lose weight or exercise.  I wanted to firm up my tummy so I bought the Gold's Gym Ab Wheel, cost was $7.99 at my local Wal-Mart.  This little inexpensive thing is a WONDERFUL workout tool!  It has not only firmed my abs/sides but it works your shoulders and back and arms.  You know the flab we get in the front of our arms/shoulders that is annoying with tank tops as we get older?  Mine is all fi ...

If Only I Could Get Motivated To Exercise...May 25, 2015
I was wondering if there is anything anyone does to get themselves motivated and in a walking or exercising routine.  I have worked at home for so long.  I was always a very small, skinny person, but in the last seven years or so I have gained 10 pounds a year, and so now I need to lose about 70 pounds! Little by little I have gained the weight, and now I weigh as much as I weighed during pregnancy.  I'd like to try to walk for an hour or so each day, but I'm having a ha ...

Pool Exercise/aerobics...SMSep 05, 2014
I've joined a very reasonably priced health club in town ($25 per month) and have been going 2-3 times a week for 1 hour.  I'm about 5 weeks into it, and I'm already seeing positive results.  My upper body, arms/shoulders, already feel better; and a mild sciatic pain on the right has disappeared.  Also, my mood is better and I feel stronger and  more energetic.  I'd urge anyone who has such a program nearby which is affordable to try it.  I final ...

Harry Reid Won't Rule Out Suing Exercise Equipment Maker Over His InjuryJan 22, 2015
Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Thursday made his first public media appearance since an exercise mishap left him with a severely injured eye and four broken ribs. Reid had been working out with resistance bands in his new home earlier this month when one snapped, injuring his right eye and flinging him into a file cabinet, he said. The Nevada Democrat said he expected to be back to full speed soon, and that he planned to run for re-election. But while he was certain about his el ...
