Video Game

Posted: Nov 11, 2009

Have you heard about the video game they're putting out where you can be the terrorist killing other people (I didn't catch the name)?  I think it's disgusting.  My husband thought I was joking when I told him.  I think they ought to ban it.  Terrorists have bombed our naval vessels (USS Cole, I believe), the WTC garage, flew planes into the WTC towers and have done countless other things against us.  And some ________ (we're not allowed to swear so I'm leaving a blank) comes out with a video game where you get to play the terrorist who kills Americans and others?  As if we don't have enough problems with al-Qaeda recruiting Americans?

What is this world coming to?  I think I'd feel a tad different if it were Americans killing terrorists instead.  Sure, it's still a violent video game but I just don't buy into that whole "kids/people kill because they see/saw too much violence on TV and video games" mentality.  I saw enough violence growing up in cartoons and other shows.  I was also taught very well by my parents not to harm anyone.  It falls on the parents to teach the kids what's right, IMO.   I don't agree with the whole "It takes a village" thing.  Look at what our villages teach our kids.  I truly feel for single parents.  It must be one heck of a struggle for them but the majority of them are great parents.  Then you get the ones who pop out babies and smoke crack and the kids are running the streets.  It's very very sad.

Harumph.  That game is a disgrace to all our men and women who are fighting wars, all our fallen soldiers.  It's sad.  Anything to make a buck.

My bf just bought this game the other day. What you are talking about is only one mission in the game. When the game starts, it clearly states that it could make you feel uncomfortable then asks you if you would like to continue with it or play the game without it. This game is also rated M (mature), so you have to be at least 18 to buy it.

Flame away!

ETA: I just got some new information about the terrorist mission. You really have the wrong idea about the game. The mission is that you are an American soldier working undercover as a Russian terrorist. You are part of a group of them, but they have figured out that you are an American and they end up framing you and making the world believe that this terrorist attack on a Russian airport was done by Americans. Basically you are just witnessing this terrorist act depending on if you actually shoot civilians or not. My boyfriend chose not to and just stood by watching what happened.

i.e. like that one game where you can get busy with a "ho" and then smack the "b*tch" up. Just repeating the lingo here.... I suppose because every 10yo boy should know how to do that. Now that doesn't bother me at all, I mean there are crap loads of movies with that same MO. What dose bother me is that mother's buy those kinds of games for young children. I think we are pressing our kids to grow up too FAST!!!!

Why flame? You were very nice in your response and have a good opinion.

I wonder if we're referring to different ones. Here's the one I'm talking about:

I'm all for video games that kill terrorists.

About the flaming, I guess I am just so used to people attacking others on this board, so I expected it...not necessarily you but from anyone in general.

I was referring to the same game as you. I had a suspicion that was the game you were referring to and looked it up just to be sure before responding.

After getting home from work last night, I had my boyfriend show me the mission and I have to agree with some that it is disturbing to watch even if you do not participate in shooting anyone. This is definitely not a game I would let a child play, and I am sorry for the children whose parents buy this game for them.

Game Change On HBOMar 12, 2012
I watched this film on HBO last weekend.  Somebody obviously does not like Sarah Palin!!!  They certainly made her to appear very ignorant and stubborn with campaign manager, Steve Schmidt.  Evidently John McCain did not like they way they portrayed Palin on film either.  He says he does not plan on viewing this film, as it is an assault on her character.  I am certainly not a fan of Sarah Palin, but feel disturbed after watching this.  This just tears her apart -- ...

Fair Game-Holding Bankers' Feet To The FireJul 18, 2010
By GRETCHEN MORGENSON Published: July 16, 2010 KUDOS to the Federal Housing Finance Agency, overseer of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the crippled mortgage finance giants. While some in Washington have continued to coddle the big banks even after they drove our economy into the ditch, this agency seems serious about recovering money for taxpayers by holding bad financial actors to account. The agency announced last Monday that it had issued 64 subpoenas to a throng of unidentified financial ser ...
