Question for cat lovers

Posted: Oct 8, 2010

I have 1 cat and he loves to snuggle with me in the morning before I get out of bed.  If you have a lot of cats, do you wake up covered in a blanket of kitties every day?  I think this would be wonderful, but could make it hard to get up!

I have three cats and one small dog. As soon as I start moving around (waking up) they all jump up as if wishing we could just sleep all day! (My husband wakes up much earlier and they don't bother him)

Once I actually make it out of bed the small herd waits outside the bathroom door for me to get out of the shower and get dressed. then we go into the kitchen and make coffee and eat breakfast. The cats will usually go off, doing whatever it is cats do and the dog will stay under the table.

Then I head to my office to get started working. They eventually all make their way back to the office where there are four little beds in strategic locations and they pretty much sleep through my shift.

I love them. They keep me company, they are so loving and beautiful. Animals are wonderful companions. At night, after we turn off the lights, the dog and our large male cat RUN to the bed and jump in, the other two sleep wherever. Only the dog stays on the bed all night.

I have no idea where in the house the cats go at night... cat mysteries! (large house, 5 bedrooms, garage, music room... plenty of hiding, playing places.)

It is "wonderful"!

I have 2 cats - they seem to alternate who stays in - bed all night. But if its winter, - sm

and it's cold, I usually wake up with both of them. I have beds placed throughout the house, too. One cat pretty much sleeps in bed whenever she chooses to sleep, unless it's warm, then she stretches out on the floor underneath the window, or back in a corner underneath my bicycle. My other cat is always changing where her favorite spot is. I have a bed on top of my desk, back in a corner, where she can see out the window. My kitty-carrier is under the desk, back in a dark corner, and that's her favorite nighttime sleeping place or hiding spot. She also alternates between couches. Another favorite of hers is laundry baskets, preferably with laundry in them!

I have 2 who sleep on the bed all night, 1 next to my pillow and 1 next to my feet. They pretty much stay there most of the day too. In the winter, there are more depending on how cold it is. They do tend to hog the blankets though. The youngsters jump on in the morning and I scratch my nail on the sheet under the blankets and it drives them crazy trying to catch it. They're so cute. What would we do without them?

I always sleep on my side, and I used to have a cat - - (sm) -

that always carefully arranged himself on top of me, between the small of my back and the top of my hip. Besides being cute & comforting, it also straightened out my spine to where I would never wake up with a morning backache! After about 2 years of having him there every night, I went on a trip, and realized I couldn't sleep without the familiar, warm, 10 pounds of kitty perched on my hip. So, I folded up a couple sweaters inside a soft daypack I'd brought on the trip, along with a shoe, so it was the right weight, and put it on my hip where my kitty normally slept, and I was finally able to get to sleep! He has long since passed away, and my current kitties don't sleep on my hip, but I still have trouble falling asleep until I have at least 1 kitty somewhere on my bed. Stuffed animals don't work. It's gotta be purrining !

the kitties know my patterns, and when I start to get up, they all jump up ahead of me and head for the kitchen...me for my coffee and them for their half & half :) I can't hardly go to sleep without my snuggle-buddies!

I loved waking up with my kitty snuggling he always laid under my chin and purred me to sleep.

I just lost him on Friday and miss him so much already.

Cats in bed - sammypot

We have 6 cats in the house and any number of them outside. Sam sleeps on the pillow next to me, Joey and Charlie sleep on the footend but during the night both Sam and Charlie come "visiting". Sam actually walks up between my husband and me and quietly meows until someone acknowledges him. Then he quietly goes back to his pillow. Charlie just comes up to my side and plops down, all 18 pounds of him, and stays for about 10 minutes of petting. This can go on several times a night and for all the world I would not have it any other way. Glad I am not the only one!

Our cat is more like a dog for which I am actually - sm - ECMT

thankful for as I am more of a dog person anyway (have 3 dogs). But the cat does sleep on the bed sometimes usually at my feet which I prefer as I don't like a cat trying to sleep on my head as I have had happen at friends before. Sometimes we have one of the dogs up on the bed too, can make it interesting as he has not learned his boundries with the cat yet (puppy still only 9 months old). But kitty is very independent, doesn't snuggle much, she will let me know though when she wants a good scratch or feeding.

We just lost our 15 year old cat yesterday.  We had to have him put down.  My daughters and I are devastated.  My husband tells us to go out and get another cat.  I'd love to get one and plan on actually getting two kittens in the future.  I feel guilty going out so soon as Roscoe was part of our family for so long and I don't want it to look like we're replacing him.  For those of you who have lost a pet, how long did you wait to get another one.&nbs ...

It's time once again for my favorite event of the year.  The Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show airs Monday and Tuesday nights 8-11 p.m.   The first night according to Comcast TV guide wil be aired on CNBC.  The second night is on USA.  I attended the show in 2006 when Rufus, the Colored Bull Terrier won BIS.  What a thrill when they turn the lights down and announce each group winner!   The applause just about brings the house down! Message To My Fellow Dog LoversJul 30, 2011
I am writing this to hopefully prevent someone else from feeling the pain that I feel or your beloved pet from suffering unnecessarily.  My 8-year-old golden retriever became ill this past week.  I googled her symptoms and it led me to a condition called pyometra which I had never heard of.  She didn't quite fit the criteria for that so I assumed she had a stomach virus.  I tried to make her comfortable and take care of her myself but she wasn't getting any better.& ...

We have stray cats that come around our neighborhood and we've been feeding them.  I know, I know, a mistake, but they were little kittens at the time mostly and so cute.  Now that mating season is upon us, I think there are about 2 or 3 pregnant ones.  I know I shouldn't have started this, but how do I stop?  I don't know if any of the other neighbors feed them or not, and it will make me sick if I see them starving.  What to do?  Sometimes there are ...

For Cat Lovers, Feeling GuiltyJun 04, 2013
I just found out my 2nd cat in 10 years likely has a cryptococcal fungal infection.  The 1st one I did the whole treatment, surgery, biopsy, blood titers, fluconazole (150 bucks a month for a year), cost me over $2000.  She got better, but about 6 months later, it came back and I could not afford to treat her anymore.  I put all that cost on my credit cards. Well fast forward, I now have another cat with the same thing.  Saw the vet (different one) and he wants to do a biops ...

Hillary Clinton's image is worse than at any point since 2008. That's the big takeaway from a new CNN/Opinion Research poll released late Monday. And it's true; 44 percent now have an unfavorable opinion of her -- the highest that has been since June 2008, shortly after Clinton conceded the Democratic nomination to Barack Obama. The new poll also has the distinction of having come just as Clinton's use of a private e-mail account during her time as secret ...
