Is it possible to find love in your 50s?

While I'm considered "very attractive" (obviously, that's subjective) for my age, it is getting more and more difficult to find quality men to date.

Part of my problem is that I live in a city comprised of mostly retirees and college kids, so the middle-aged folks are a smaller demographic. That said, I am approached just about every day I venture out of the house. But, you know how that goes -- they're too old for me, or married, or -- whatever.

I joined a few online dating sites, thinking that enlarging the territory would yield better results. Alas, those guys have problems relating to women, etc. i have encountered a hoarder, a dyslexic stutterer, a recovered alcoholic with dentures who can't relate to a woman at all, and a guy who had his horse living in his house with him! No, thank you.

The only thing keeping my hope alive is that I have a friend who is 56 and has been in a LTR for the past few years. He is intelligent, educated, good-looking, successful, healthy, stable, and very nice! They are very happy together. I have asked her if he has any single friends, and of course, "No, they're all married!"

Any one here in the same boat as I? I would love to hear success stories, if there are any!!

My mother-in-law died a few years ago. She and my father-in-law were married nearly 60 years. Later on that year, at the age of 83, my father-in-law met and married his second wife. They've been happily married for over 3 years.

We can all find love in our later years. It's a good idea, though, to remember that in searching for an age-appropriate mate, we are going to meet people with a little less flash than they used to have, who have some baggage they've picked up along the way, but who have a whole lot more substance than they used to have, too! There are lots of wonderful, imperfect people out there--just like us! If you try a little harder to look past the rough exterior, you just might find your Prince Charming.

My father-in-law died last night right before midnight. At least he had wonderful, loving companionship for the last few years of his life.

I've tried men my age, some nice. There are many out there who just want companionship. Just keep looking.

I know so many of us are looking for jobs. I am disabled (not legally) its too hard to be totally broke and homeless for a year or two in order to get disability (which is basically what you have to do). Can't get on disability when you're on unemployment and food stamps either. I applied for free healthcare in my city and never heard from them yet. After reading posts about extreme couponing, i'm interested. I've never bothered using coupons because I figured I would just use them to buy things I do not actully use nor need, just to save money.
