an immediate report and assessment? For intelligence reasons facts in a national or foreign emergency are kept close to the vest until a level-headed measured response to the situation is agreed upon. We have no need for the CIA if all the beans are spilled for all the world to see.

I don't think this is of the significance you do, I am mildly curious about why President Obama chose not to speak officially of this possibility that everyone was well aware of up front--just in case he knows something really good we don't; but really, I imagine it's just the usual as VTMT says.
