I'm trying to kick my Coke habit (the drink not the drug, LOL) and I need help!

Posted: Apr 29, 2010

I have gone one full day without having any Coke at all.  I usually have four at the max.  I feel like I my rear end is dragging the floor.  I'm yawning constantly.  I cannot concentrate on work.  I just feel run down.  Does anybody have any suggestion of a diet supplement or something else to help me get that boost of energy that I get from Coke?

I'm trying to lose weight and get healthy and that is why I'm cutting out the Coke.  I absolutely will not drink Diet Coke or any diet drink as I cannot stomach artificial sweetners!

So I don't know exactly what to do.  I don't want to drink coffee all day and I need to give up Coke because God only knows how many calories I am packing away on my thighs and hips.  I have to have the stimulation to help me focus and get my lines.  I didn't realize just how dependent I had become!

I HAVE to share this wacky drink/diet thing! - Hayseed

A while back, while having dinner at a friend's house, this girl next to me was forgoing the huge spread and sipping on what looked like a weird lemonade. I asked her about it and she said she was day 3 into a "Master Cleanse Diet" and shared it with me.

I tried the full-week liquid diet and it's horrible. BUT, the lemonade drink is absolutely wonderful and I keep it in the fridge all the time and even got a neighbor hooked on it!

Lemonade recipe:
Juice of 2 large whole fresh lemons.
Add 7 tablespoons of REAL maple syrup.
1/4 teaspoon of Cayanne pepper.
1 liter of water.
Mix it all, shake and chill, drink throughout the day.

The cayanne gives a wonderful kick and the sweetness of the maple syrup offsets the sour of the lemon and it just WORKS! My husband knocked it until he tried it, same with my neighbor, and we all love it!

I swear it really does help with appetite supression as well. Don't know if that's the pepper or the lemons or just drinking it throughout the day but I've been sold for about 6 months now on it.

I'll put the link to the whole diet below, just in case you were curious, but I tried the "saltwater flush" part and gagged, as well as poo'd. :-D

Good luck no matter what you try! You can do it if ya want to (or so we're supposed to say). :-)

that sounds wonderful - thanks for sharing!

Sometimes the lack of energy can be a form of dehydration. If we keep our bodies hydrated then our blood stays moving easier and we seem to have more energy.

Part of what you're feeling also is the withdrawal from the caffeine and the sugar in the Coke. Good for you for going cold turkey on it. There's something crazy like 150 calories in a 12 ounce can of coke.

Have lots of ice cold water on hand and sip on that throughout the day. When the worst of the yawns hits, get up and take a walk around the house and get your blood going again. Eat light meals during the day, especially until the worst of the withdrawal is over. A heavy meal will have you dozing and sleepy before you know it.

I think part of it, though, is you're going to just have to ride it out for a couple of days until the caffeine and sugar are out of your system and your body recognizes that it's not going to get anymore. This will probably take about three days of feeling miserable and then you'll notice a change.

Good luck. Good for you for cutting that stuff out. I think you'll notice a big difference in your weight just with that.

I went cold turkey off soda. It took a week for all the symptoms to go away. I drank lots of water, took Tylenol for the headaches, started eating breakfast and just forced myself to work through the fatigue. After it was all said and done, I'd lost 6 pounds just getting off the soda. You'll be amazed at how great you feel off of it. Good luck.

When I was trying to come off of it I seriously had a migraine and was throwing up everywhere! My stepson called and was talking to his dad and asked what was wrong with me, cause he heard me violently throwing up and he told him I had stopped drinking cokes and he said...."Wow, how many cokes did she drink?" It is funny really.

I substituted cokes for water and unsweetened tea and lost 100 pounds (I made other changes too) and I actually do drink diet cokes from time to time now, but haven't drank a sugar drink in about two years. I am not sure I could stomach one.

then try caffeine tablets. That is what you are addicted to in Coke. You really shouldn't go cold turkey trying to get off caffeine because it can make you really sick. NoDoz is sold at Wal-Mart and has 200 mg of caffeine which is a lot more than Coke has, but if your looking for something to keep you awake that will do it.

I read this the other day but didn't post it, but now I found another article from March where a deputy police chief and his bodyguard was killed in March.  This is why AZ wants their law.
