Healthy Dog Buried With Owner

Posted: Mar 5, 2010

Do you believe this, some guy in Arkansas died and his last wish was to have his 2-year-old dog put to sleep to be buried with him, and his family did it.  Uneblievable.

;

he must have had a reason for this, maybe his family did not like the dog - dog

Dogs - Happy MT Robin

Sad to say, but to some people, dogs are things or possessions. A friend of my mom's was dying a number of years ago and she had an older dog and a younger dog and they did the same thing. I desperately wanted to take the dogs, but was actually living with my mom at the time and it was her house and she said no. The older dog had health problems and the younger dog apparently was intractable without the older dog. It was a sad situation.

It may in the long run have ended up better for the dog. If they couldn't find a home for him, he possibly would have ended up on in a shelter and then having a not so terrific existence and then still being killed. It's just sad all the way around.

not unbelievable; human/pet bond; should be more like it. - n/m

Step dad wanted the same - trained to be obnoxious

[ In Reply To ..]
My step dad was a jerk, and he trained his dog to be a bigger jerk. If there was any obnoxious habit he could think of, he encouraged it. He trained the dog to sit under the table and bark during meal times to get fed off people's plates. He'd actually feed it soup with his own spoon under that table! Needless to say, the carpet under the table was NASTY, but he insisted it needed to remain there. We all despised his dog and its obnoxious ways, and that tickled him pink, he'd laugh and say the dog would need to be buried with him because nobody would "love it" the way he did. When he died mom kept the dog for a few years, and it had to unlearn a lot of habits - but the dog realized that nobody WOULD "love it" his way, and adapted eventually.

That is really sad. Perhaps he felt the dog wouldn't be properly cared for. - deb

I have told my family that when I am buried, I want my dog's ashes buried with me (he died in 2008). But I can't imagine asking that a living dog be killed, just to be buried with me.

perhaps it was a comfort for him to know - he would not be alone

Humans are frail.

I would be shocked that a vet would do this, however.

You don't know the circumstances. I have a dog who is very healthy and loving, but is scared to death to go outside the yard, in the car, scared of people. As long as she is here with me and my other dog she is perfectly fine. If I died and had made no other arrangements, she would end up in a shelter and be put to sleep because she is not adoptable. This might have been the situation in this case as well, could be the best thing for the dog in the long run.

Anyone Else Having A Healthy Thanksgiving?Nov 24, 2014
All these recipes sound great - but I can't eat them. I have to (want to) get my weight down - haven't baked anything since July, food diary, all that jazz. So now the holidays are rolling around - I went and got a small turkey, brussel sprouts (I love brussel sprouts), one sweet potato, an avocado, celery, I already have kale in the house. Also nonfat yogurt (yes, I took the plunge from lowfat to nonfat yogurt and skim milk from 2%). Organic "only peanuts" peanut butter. Oliv ...

Healthy Foods That Don't Cost MuchJun 22, 2010
Got this from an article online To prove my point, I've put together this list of 50 healthy foods that I've purchased at least once in the last six months for under $1 a pound. So rev-up your shopping cart. Apples - One a day keeps the cheapskate away. Asparagus - HUGE store special at 99 cents a pound during Easter week. I bought 10 pounds, blanched it, and then froze it. Bananas - Potassium for pennies. Barley - A tasty alternative to rice and potatoes. Beans - Canned or ...

Is This A Punishment Or A Healthy Thing?May 01, 2012
I have 3 grown kids in their 30s and one is 40. Two of them can't seem to remember my birthday, Christmas or Mother's Day. Once in a while they may call late in the day, or text at 10:40 p.m. on my birthday, but often nothing is acknowledged or done. There have been occasions where I get a card and once or twice a gift, but not usually. One child does routinely send a card but never a gift. They are all professionals and fairly well off. So there I am on all their birthdays and a ...

This makes perfect sense, so I don't see why Trump's willingness to consider this should be ...

Building On The Healthy Thanksgiving Post Below Nov 24, 2014
I had something relatively decadent.  boneless skinless chicken cooked on the stovetop with butter, garlic, salt, pepper and dried onion.  BUT instead of fries or chips with the sandwich or allowing myself a sweet treat later i'm eating edemame with my sandwich.  It is time consuming and keeps my mind and hands busy, taking me longer to eat and therefore eating less, hopefully.  I think I will start substituting edemame for fries or chips with all of my snacks from now o ...

Chik-Fil-A Owner Pays Employees During A 5-month ShutdownAug 16, 2015
in Austin, Texas shocked his 50 employees by paying their full salaries during a five-month period when the business shut down. Jeff Glover, who has operated the Chick-fil-A for 15 years, wanted to remodel the building to accommodate more customers, but didn’t want to hurt his workers. So he continued paying them for the full five months. The restaurant, which reopened this week at West Braker Lane and U.S. 183, is now the largest Chick-fil-A in Austin–and surely the chicken retailer ...
