Filing bankruptcy for the first time. Has anyone here

ever done this? I want to do it myself so as not to have to pay an attorney because (as usual this makes no sense to me) if I cannot afford my bills, I sure cannot afford an attorney. Just wondering if anyone knows of a good site to look at for this info. Thanks!

[ In Reply To ..]To be honest, I think it is like filing for an adoption. The court may not allow you to file for bankruptcy without an attorney. The verbage for each state is different and I really don't think you would be able to find a do-it-yourself kit that would be completely trustworthy. good luck to you.

[ In Reply To ..]I filed several years ago and did it through a law school in my state. You might want to check that out, as it is good experience for the law student who is about to graduate (mine was) and only had to pay court costs........ worth a try.

I got my 3 free credit reports to use to note the companies on there (they have all the information you need), as well as looked through any bills (my daughter's med bills were 100k) and put them in there, too. Only paid filing fee to the court. Showed up for my court date and was discharged. That simple. Attorney's don't charge much - it's a quick, easy money maker for them.

Then, after seeing their ad, I went with a large law firm specializing in bankruptcy. When I told them I had ''shopped around'', they met the lowest price I was offered. Good idea to shop around.
