Anyone here ever filed bankruptcy? I think I'm

Posted: Jun 9, 2015

I just flunked my second audit (99.35) and now I have to go to a program and acknowledge that I've failed again and am put on a performance management plan...which means I'll be out the door soon because I cannot seem to pass this high standard of 99.65.

Have you filed bankruptcy before?  How bad is it?  I'm a single old lady with 2 years and 2 months to go before I can retire.  I really don't want to retire early because I have no savings and planned on working part time after I retired to supplement SS.  Now I'm not sure I'm going to make it that far.  Scared...heck yes.

Can anyone give me some pointers on what to expect, what I need to do to prepare myself?  I don't own a house or a car, i just have charge cards that I had to live off in the past.

Any info would be greatly appreciated!  TIA.

Nothing has come through yet. I tried a long time ago to set up the hotmail.com email but have never been able to get into it. It still shows up though now and again and I forgot to check and correct the email address. Thanks.

I was able to add my car into it and keep my car! My payments are about $250 a month which was less than my car payment. I am expected to get some bonus money at work at the end of the year and am considering converting to a chapter 7 so I can keep my car and make no payments. It's weird to me, that seems illegal but it's the law and 100% legal. My husband has credit cards we use. It's just me that can't get any. No big deal, really.

Thanks for the info. Hope it works out for me too (nm). - debye

You might want to check on the C7 in your area. Things could be different from state to state, but in my area, I filled C7 4 years ago, I was able to keep my home and car but in order to do so I still had to make payments, the companies just stopped reporting to the credit agencies. If I miss payments the house can still be foreclosed on and the car could still be repo'd. The car got paid off a year after C7. The house I still live in for now but have been up to 4 months late. So while it's true you can keep things in C7, I'm not sure it's true that you can keep them without paying for them. It could be different in your area, but you might want to check to make sure.

If all you have are credit cards you don't have to take bankruptcy as they are a nonsecured debt. Make sure you don't need credit for the next few years, then just stop paying the cards. You will have to live with phone calls, which you are free to just ignore and not answer. I guess it depends on the laws in your state, but in Texas you can do it. After 7 years it will be over with and your credit will be good again. I did it a number of years ago and it worked for me.

99.3 is failing? WTH? I thought it was 99? - Anyway, I had to do a Chapter 7

And I don't regret it. I wouldn't follow the advice of the person who said to just stop paying your credit cards bills though. Also, probably do a Chapter 7 so you have ZERO payments, not 13.

I know what you mean...I'm single too. I have more than a few years before I can retire though unfortunately.

I don't think it's a sure thing that they will fire you, though. They are too worried you will file for and get unemployment. So maybe just go thru their stupid hoops and you may last just enough time to take you to retirement. Meanwhile, maybe apply for every other MT company out there.

The process is pretty simple and easy - justright

I let a lawyer handle the initial paperwork, cost about 750 on a payment plan. You go to court, they ask you a bunch of questions, which the guy (forget what he was called, but not a judge) pretty much answered himself, I just threw in a couple of mm hmms and it was over. The wait was longer than the actual conference with him, but I would say I was there for maybe an hour.

Chapter 13 Bankruptcy. Questions For Anyone Who Has Filed It Please. SmJul 27, 2011
We have been in chapter 13 for a year.  Our payment keeps going up.  However, I found some interesting information from the IRS for expense list that my lawyer did not include in our expenses and we have for expenses.  Has anyone dealt with this?  If so, what could you include in expenses?  Did your lawyer include these expenses later?  Sorry to sound stupid, but just trying to get some help.  Believe me, we did not want to file but had no option. ...

Bankruptcy ?Jun 03, 2016
Does anyone know if you can file bankruptcy on a judgement that has been taken out on you by a hospital? Working as an MT leaves NO money to be able to pay on a hospital bill and of course, $5.00 isn't an acceptable amount to send them. The "law firm" handling this (debt collection office bogus law firm) is a joke. Money from my county's property taxes goes to help support the hospital, but I make too much to qualify for their hospital authority assistance (but not enough to ...

Does Anyone Have Experience With BankruptcyNov 22, 2016
I am looking at filing bankruptcy soon and am looking for any insight anyone can give me.  I'm not sure I will even be able to file as I have no assets.  I don't own a house or a car.  I just have massive credit card dept.  Years ago I made almost 70,000 a year.  Now I'm barely making one-third of that.  Most of my credit card dept is groceries, through over a year ago I purchased a washer and drier, and had a ramp put on the front of the house I live ...

Tax Time. I Filed And Am Pondering The Tax CodesFeb 06, 2015
My husband and I file 1040 (not enough deductions to itemize).  This year we made $10,000 less than last year.  However, our tax due was only $200 less than last year.  I could not believe that a $10,000 reduction in come made such little difference in the amount of taxes we owe.  I don't think we are considered middle class anymore.  It is very expensive to be poor. I am not sure how accurate the figures are because I figured we are paying 13%, but I rea ...

Debts And Filing Bankruptcy...Jun 28, 2011
I am finally to the point of having to consider bankruptcy, mainly for medical bills.  There's quite a bit, having had two surgeries in the recent past in one year with no insurance.  I am trying to decide if I should move from the rental home I am in first or move after I file.  I am not sure whether you can rent at an apartment complex with a bankruptcy or whether I should try to find another rental home?  Or should I just not file until I move?  We need a bigger ...

I think I am going to file chapter 7 alone.  My husband owns property from an inheretence so we want to avoid that being taken.  It is like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders.  I will admit I was addicted to credit card use.  Then I had an accident in 2011 and medical bills started piling up.  It will be nice to start over and NOT be dependent on credit cards.  I ...

On Thursday, the Motor City filed for the largest municipal bankruptcy in U.S. history on its $18 billion of debt, and faces a future where only one thing is certain: lots of people are going to get much less money than they were promised.
