America's Got Talent. I'm not happy

Posted: Sep 14, 2010

I have turned a corner tonight with what I think of Piers Morgan.  I used to just love him, and tonight I think what he did to Prince Poppycock was one of the most selfish things I have ever seen.   The time for giving his opinion is over.   This was the last 90 seconds the last four had before an audience and before America.  The stress on them tonight must have been off the scale.  To buzz him in the middle of his performance was horrible, not to mention criticizing him for being too serious and saying before all of us who decide that he blew it.  Did he never see a serious opera before?  They are filled with passion.  I would be upset if he had done this to any one of the four.  I thought at first it was an unfortunate mishap, only to find out he meant to interrupt his final performance.  I think Prince Poppycock is an extraordinary opera singer and a true professional who showed us that he has more than one side to his talent.  I thought his performance tonight was wonderful.  Just my opinion, but I'm not happy.

I agree with Morgan, Poppycock stunk tonight. - Chris

I really liked Prince Poppycock, not so sure why, but I really did like his earlier performances. I especially liked his singing ability, costumes and showmanship. Tonight's performance fell very flat for me and I thought it was quite boring. I was surprised because I really expected the fun, showy, wonderful opera singer act I had come to expect.

The pressure to perform at their optimal best was on all of them, not just Prince P. While I do agree with Morgan's words, I don't think he should have buzzed the guy. Just my opinion. This is actually the first season I have watched this show.

That's my point - Christine

He could have at least waited until the man was finished with his final performance, and one night away from winning one million dollars. Everyone tonight at this stage of the competition deserved to have 90 seconds to do an interrupted performance. I never said the pressure was just on him. I said I would have felt bad for any one of the four.

They should have disabled the buzzers for the night - Old part-timer

Piers was right - the performance sucked but he shouldn't have buzzed him. I don't understand why the judges even had the ability to buzz someone at this stage in the game.

I just went on the official site to see the comments of the viewers. Like me, only one person (I clicked up to #8, each containing about 3 comments) was angry with what happened. One person said PP brings both laughter and tears to the stage. When he came down the stairs last night in the fantastic costume, which he designed, I was already emotional. It makes me remember the Phantom, when he sings the very emotional, and for him painful last song, "The music of the Night." The first time I saw Phantom and heard that song it grabbed me, and to this day it has never let me go. All of these contestants have given so much. They have given up jobs, design costumes and sets, and give their very best. The viewers have the opinion that Piers buzzed him just at the moment before his high note (which he did) to interrupt the performance because he is trying to sway the vote. He definitely wants Jackie to win. One person said they feel it is because he is homophobic, and I must say that entered my mind as well. In any event that's my last word. May each and every one who gave so much have a rewarding career and live out his or her dream!! I guess that is what America is all about. We all have the right to think the way we choose. I hope at least tonight Piers apologizes for buzzing in the middle of a final performance. One website said no judge has ever done that on the final night before.
Sorry for the error - Christine

Did you see the little girl from Pittsburgh last night?  It actually almost freaked me out, hearing an adult voice coming out of a child.  I expected her to be an excellent singer, but I did not expect her to sound like a 30-year-old!  Then, of course, there was the dental floss and Howie Mandell thing . . . . ...

Talent, Skill, And ComplimentsDec 01, 2009
I've got this situation roiling around in my head, and would be interested to hear others' thoughts. Talent is a gift from God. Either you have the gift, or you don't. Skill is attained by locking yourself in a closet (figuratively speaking) and working at it until your eyeballs fall out and your fingers won't move anymore. (Or whatever body parts apply to the particular skill in question.) I have a talent for music. I have achieved some level of skill by spending countless h ...

HAPPY DAY!Mar 27, 2011
I love to cook!  Always have.  Since I was young I have collected family recipes, changed them around (or not) and have honed my skills to the point where I have earned the title of "family cook".  I can do it all!  I even make homemade cakes and decorate them for family gatherings.  I have index cards, ringed binders and tons and tons of recipes on random pieces of paper put away in boxes. A couple of Christmases ago I decided that since times are tough and gifts for o ...

I Was So Happy To See This!Apr 21, 2011
This story is one illustrates why government-controlled health care can be a dangerous thing.  The doctors and the government took choice away from these parents and basically said "sorry, your child is just going to die, no tracheotomy for him."  Religious organization from the US stepped in, brought him down here, US docs did the trach, and now he can spent his last days comfortably at home with his parents. One can only hope that never happens here. ...

Anyone Happy?Aug 03, 2010
I am still in school, and it seems like everyone on the boards is miserable and there's no future for MT.  Not very much to keep anyone motivated in school.  I still have about 6-9 months left.  Is anyone happy, or at least content in their job?  I am a future WAHM, mother of two sons, ages 7 and 2.  I used to work in social services, and thought I'd do this for a while.  Please give me some hope! ...

Happy Thanksgiving, Everyone. (sm)Nov 26, 2009
I know we often disagree on this board, but I hope that everyone -- liberal, conservative or in between -- has a wonderful, safe and happy Thanksgiving. If you're spending it with your relatives (as you might do every year and sometimes dread doing so), try to look at them in a new light and be grateful you still have your family. If you have no family, cook a meal and invite a neighbor or someone who also has no family to share your meal with you. It might wind up being your best Tha ...

Nebraskans Are Not HappyDec 31, 2009
From Rasmussen... In Nebraska, just 17% approve of the Medicaid deal cut by Senator Ben Nelson to secure his vote on health care reform. Nelson is now down by 30 points in an early look at his 2012 Reelection Bid. Republicans now lead by five points on the Generic Congressional Ballot. That’s a big change from the seven-point lead enjoyed by Democrats when President Obama was inaugurated. Coincidentally, Obama's approval rating has sunk to -16.   One can only hope th ...
