Poor renal patient smells like fish
Posted: Mar 5, 2013
He said: "She has a fistula in her left upper extremity."
VR wrote: "She has a fish odor."
Can you imagine if that wasn't corrected and left as is, and another doctor comes along and says, "Tell me about your fish odor."
I had another report today where the dictator had momentarily stopped speaking, and VR just threw in, "He was born skinny."

LOL! Those are great. It's VR, not the doc, that "dictates" patient care. - nm

No, its the doc who dictates the care, its the VR - that types it

VR doesn't dictate anything.
Um, it's called sarcasm. It was just a joke. This is the comedy board, after all. - nm

ROFL.
How about a doctor the patient is referred to saying "Let's take a look at that circus-sized penis" or "Are you still have trouble with your reptile dysfunction"?

Fish OilNov 09, 2011I just found out that if you're taking fish oil supplements that do not say "mercury-free" on the label, you're doing more harm than good. Makes sense. I've been taking "bad" fish oil for years! Groan! ...

Anyone Taking Fish Oil? How Much Is Too Much?Jan 11, 2011Anyone know about fish oil? I have been taking it 2 gm a day for awhile, but been reading about autoimmune issues and inflammation. A book on a Paleo diet suggests 15 gm a day to help with inflammation and this just seems like a lot. I have gone up to 3 tid and feel better, but afraid to go higher. Anybody taking this much? I also take vit D and magnesium 200 bid and nothing else. ...
Question About New FishMay 21, 2011I just got a fish today. I haven't had fish since I was a child. It is one of those Siamese fighting fish. My problem is this: I just got a little fishbowl since I wasn't too sure how great I would be keeping a fish alive. I have a cat who for the most part just looks in the bowl and watches the fish. But my husband has watched him stick his paw in the bowl a few times. Will the cat's paw contaminate the water? Should I change the wa ...
Teach A Man To FishAug 26, 2012Give a man a fish, you feed him for one day. Teach him to fish, you feed him for life. Destroy the economy and make him desperate enough for a job and he will gratefully work at minimum wage in your fish cannery for life. Destroy the public education system and you'll have his sons and daughters, too. Forever.

Re. Nursing Home Patient(s)Oct 15, 2009Several family members while in nursing homes have been approached by religious "Zealouts" trying to push the "right faith" by staff or so-called "visitors" on them. I am so sick of it! My Dad was presented with a Bible of different faith at 81 and dying. Now another member at 85 in failure was presented with 3 different "faiths" by the "staff" and I am enraged. Being asked questions by 85-YO as to what is "B'hai" and what is "Spiritualism." I am so sick of it. Keep your Bible(s) off their ...

We Are Not Allowed To Talk About Any PatientOct 15, 2014I am just reading this morning about the nurse who has tested positive for Ebola in Texas after taking care of Eric Duncan. Nurse understood the risks of working so close to one of the world’s most feared viruses and tried to reassure her family that she would be safe. When nurse’s mother learned her daughter was caring for Thomas Eric Duncan, nurse told her: “Mom, no. Don’t worry about me,” family friend said.
How would the mother have known had the daughter not told her? Is that ...

Any Fish-cooker-uppers Out There? HALP!Mar 05, 2010Here's the deal. I'm a part-time Mr. Mom. My wife and I both work and we split the household chores down the middle even-steven. Cooking, cleaning, whatever. We each take care of laundering and ironing our own clothes, etc. (It's the way I was raised by working parents, if you think this is odd.)
So, the way our schedule works out, I'm off work earlier and cook dinner most of the time. Nothing fazes me except FISH, and my wife doesn't do it any better, but we bot ...
Controversy Over Dr.s Remarks About Patient's WeightNov 21, 2009My husband told me he read somewhere on the Internet about an ophthalmologist telling an extremely obese patient that he was refusing to do her eye exam since she was going to lose her sight anyway because of her uncontrolled (apparently she's been noncompliant with her diabetic care) diabetes and obesity. Communication And Ebola Patient In DallasOct 01, 2014Today's Ebola news shocker (not!!) is that information obtained from a diligent and thorough nurse failed to make into clinical decision making, and the patient was sent home with antibiotics for undiscovered Ebola. Properly handled, the patient would have gone into isolation at that time, and been treated with appropriate supportive measures, and not spent 2 additional days exposing others to the virus.
If many more Ebola cases occur as a result of this totally commonplace error on the p ...

One Penny Holds Up Insurance Benefits, Leukemia Patient ClaimsJul 08, 2010July 06, 2010 5:34 PM
BARBARA COTTER
The Gazette
La Rosa Carrington has more than enough to worry about. She’’s a single mother with two teenage daughters, she’’s fighting a type of leukemia that requires five days of chemo a month for four months, and she lost her job in May.
So the last thing she needed was news that her health insurance benefits would be terminated because she hadn’’t paid her premium in full. The shortfall? One penny.
