It explains differences in types of government.  There are other clickable links in there that give even more specifics.  I truly find myself in the type of government we have, which is mixed.  I don't want to go far capitalistic or far socialistic.  We need a mix as we have.

I do not trust companies in a full capitalistic society to regulate themselves to protect us and the planet.  I do not trust full socialism because I don't want the government controling every aspect of our lives.

Just my thoughts, maybe some of you could share yours.

Everything in - moderation

is a good way to live in my opinion. We have already seen what happens when large corporations (i.e. banks and insurance companies) do when they are not regulated in any way - we go into the deepest recession we had had in decades and then somehow bail them out to keep them afloat and their leaders are not punished and receive bonuses in the millions...What? Not smart, so yes we need some regulation for sure. More socialistic is not sustainable because the government cannot take care of everyone and it would keep many from even trying to better themselves and work hard. Also government in my business is not what I want (i.e. voter info given to this new president - NOT). So yeah, I would say everything in moderation which would require getting rid of everyone in Washington and start with a clean slate of those who don't owe anyone anything for getting them elected, but that is just a pipe dream !

This is why a constitutional republic was meant for a moral - people, unless you can change

human nature.

I personally don't trust Washington. They all to things for power.

There' a de facto command economy, then there's the - black market. There's not much

[ In Reply To ..]
left in between.

The state is inherently socialists because people - do things for power and it

[ In Reply To ..]
monopolizes and nationalizes the means of production of justice and security. By claiming the authority to tax--and by actually doing so--it proves that the state is the actual owner of the property being taxed, and of the labor of those taxed, and of the "means of production" used to earn the income that's taxed. Only ownership would confer any right to exact rent or dividends.

Say the govt spending is 20% GDP and 70% gov - spending is on soscial programs.

[ In Reply To ..]
Socialist is 50% communist. So the US is 14% socialist, or 7% communist.

I don’t know what the actual gov spending numbers are in relation to GDP. I’m pretty sure the Fed is about 20%, but not sure if that includes social security as that’s taxed separately. Also does not account for state/local communism.

Mixed economy? Is that what they call Socialism - now?

No, those that call what we have socialism - don't understand that

[ In Reply To ..]
we live in a mixed economy, capitalistic and socialism. Your one-line comment trying to indicate anything but what we are is quite an uneducated comment. You really should look into what we really are in this country instead of making claims that are not true.

The door to a market economy was fully closed a long - time ago. We've had heapings of

[ In Reply To ..]
pure socialism since 1933 and the removal of gold from the citizenry.

America is merely a shadow of what was bequeathed to us in 1789, taken down by a creeping cancer called socialism.
The passing of the 16th and 17th amendments - started us down the road to

socialism.

By this article's definitions no country has free markets and are either mixed or communist.

No market exists unless there is a financial incentive. - For example, you never hear of

[ In Reply To ..]
people selling untaxed cigarettes.

I'm a conservative who generally has a libertarian streak, but I can see a "mixed economy" sliding down the slippery slope as politicians do thinks for power.

I can see the value in standardization for some things. - We take for granted that the car we

[ In Reply To ..]
drive in New England works just fine on the roads in California and runs on gasoline that you can buy anywhere, but this didn't just happen accidentally.

Entire industries are affected by government regulation simply to establish standard protocols for simple things like this. But when these govt departments start becoming too big and belong to unions who regulates them?

I don't know if this is what is meant by a "mixed economy" but it certainly is part of big govt.

I don't trust any politicians who promises people - goodies for votes. We had a

[ In Reply To ..]
small government at the start of the country. It was an experiment to see if a people could govern themselves.

The Bible has guidelines how to deal with everything from business to weighs and measures to how to feed the poor. When our country began we were modeled on that.

We don't have that anymore.

Politics is too corrosive and the money interests are - too strong in any type of "ism"

I don't trust politicians period. They all do things for power.

Take an informal census of your family, friends, - neigbors. It's been almost 90 years since

we had anything resembling a free market.

How many are school teachers or federal government employees? In one way or another the government funds them. How many belong to a union with lobbyist?
