Score a few million for the health care president

In the previous years before Obamacare went into effect, I always had on average 1 report a day where the doc would dictate something to the effect "the patient did not come in because he had no insurance," or "the patient had run out of her medications and could not afford to refill," or "the patient left AMA (against medical advice) due to lack of coverage."

The first change I saw was:

Between 2013 and 2014, I noticed that there were dictations where the comment was made that patient was rescheduling surgery for spring of 2014 or electing to delay for awhile.

The most recent change I am seeing:

This last week, I had a report where one patient who had been found with colon cancer 10 years ago with a resection, had had good followup up until 7 years ago when the patient lost health insurance, was now having his first colonoscopy in 7 years.

Recently I had a report where a woman was having a breast mass removed that she had been aware of for 2 years prior.

Hopefully, soon we will not hear any more comments about delay of care.

I see a change from putting off health care to people now getting the health care services that they desparately want and need.

IT IS CRIMINAL for people to die waiting for care whether a veteran of the military or an ordinary jane or john doe. We are better than that.

NO ONE is saying hand it all over free. We are asking, make it so that I don't have to choose between eating and healthcare, paying the utilities and healthcare, paying my contractual obligations and healthcare.

First, yes it does sound like it was a good insurance policy. Many of us had great policies, never had a problem. Then comes on Odontcare (aka Obamascare). Because of the rules and regulations set forth by Obamascare insurance companies were left with no choice. Take for instance my insurance company. They dropped me. Before Obamacare I had insurance, after Obamacare I did not. Letter stated that Obamacare is putting restrictions and everything on the insurance companies. Hence, indeed it is not the insurance companies, but in fact Obamacare at fault.

Again, it wasn't the insurance companies. The insurance companies were fine until Obamacare came along and directed them in what they had to do.

On another note, your third paragraph is what is wrong with some people in the country. It's the mentality of you had great insurance, others did not, so now you should be punished because others did not have what you had, so now your punishment is either not have anything or pay 3 times as much as you used to. payback time!

You cannot penalize people for having good insurance. What they need to do is fix it for the people who don't have it and leave the ones who are happy with their insurance alone.

Plain and simple answer to your last question. It is Obamacare's fault that insurance companies are changing the rules because Obamacare is setting forth the rules that they have to change from. It does not take a rocket scientist to understand that one. All you have to do is read.

Everyone who wants insurance should be able to get insurance they want. People who are happy with their insurance at a price they can afford should be able to continue with what they had.

I went from paying a copay of $25.00 per visit, $50.00 for urgent care and $150 for ER visits to a $2500 deductible per year, then 80/20. And my insurance premium went up to $188.00 ever two weeks for me and my husband. This insurance is through my employer.

So I am paying $366 per month just for the health insurance and will not use it. So the only people who will benefit off of this Obamacare are the real poor people who qualify for Medicaid or the insurance companies. They are getting all of your premiums and not wanting to pay out. I hope I never have a heart attack or someting like that that will require a hospitalization because I will end up bankrupt.

I didn't like Obamacare to begin with and now I know why. It does nothing for the average person, but then again anything the government does is not with the average persons best interest in mind.

I will be lucky to go the doctors once or twice a year and hope he will give me enough blood pressure medications to last that long cause I can't afford $150.00 every time I go to the doctors.

I am thoroughly disguisted about this insurance scam.

Last time I could get group insurance (which was good coverage) I have to pay close to $200 for my part.

There are other taxes, but none of them affect me either. I am not well off, not even close to being comfortable thanks to the MTSO slashing my salary.

Yeah, you're being subsidized. I am not. So you probably have as good as insurance as I have and I am paying $366.00 a month for. Why don't I qualify for a subsidy? Because my employer offers insurance. Sounds like a penalty to me.

Even if I had my good, high-paying inhouse job back, that paid $45K a year, I was still eligible for SOME help with ins. costs on the Obamacare site. Now that I work for an MTSO, I didn't even qualify for ANY Obamacare, not even the most-subsidized. I only qualify for Medicaid. So how the heck much are you making as an MT that you qualify for NO subsidy whatsoever?

We would not qualify for subsidies anyway because between me and my husband we make too much. So we would get screwed there too.

There is more to it than just I'm an MT so I get a subsidy and so do you. Also, if you read other parts of this board you'll know that there are MTs who are making a lot of money (wish I was one of them, but regardless they are there).

You can't just lump everyone in the same boat. When we were checking on subsidies awhile back we didn't qualify even though I don't make much (and since then make even less). Even with the subsidy it was more than I could afford.

It's also none of your business what other people make. Why do you want to know? So you can sit there with a calculator and figure out what she/he can or cannot afford and then show the posters on this board how much you know about the whole thing?

Bottom line is it's not all black and white. Each family is different depending on how much they made last year, what their projected income is this year, if they have kids, if they own their own home, what their debts are, etc, etc.

I am asking because what you describe now (bad copays and deductible) is similar what I have ALWAYS been paying BEFORE Obamacare and still do.

I agree that we should be allowed to choose Obamacare over employer insurance. I wish they would stop grandfathering the employer coverage, because it is no good, at least with our employers in the MT field.

What I don't get is how that's Obamacare's fault. If it was the same employer and they changed the insurance, that's the insurance company/employer. If you changed insurer due to a change in work situation, that's not Obamacare's fault either.

What we were told was my company was changing the policy to fall in line with Obamacare. We have always had Cigna insurance and up until this year it was great insurance. All I needed to worry about was making sure I had the copay.

I resent someone going into the pools and getting pretty much the same insurance that I have for less. That is a penalty to me for working and having employer sponsered insurance. Why do I want to pay almost $400 a month when someone else is paying $100 a month for the same thing.

The insurance companies are the only side of this that will make a fortune off of us and we will go broke.

Obama could have helped with subsidies without forcing everyone to buy insurance. And don't forget this may not work anyway if enough younger people don't buy health insurance. And from what I hear they're not. So when your subsidized premiums go up because of that lets see how well you like it then.

I don't want the government in pretty much every aspect of my life and I defintely do not trust them enough not to get into the medical records of those on Obamacare. Call me paranoid but I don't trust our government period. And no its not because of Obama. I don't trust any politician. They are all crooks as far as I am concerned both democrats and republicans. They serve their own agenda. Ever wonder why they opted out of Obamacare for themselves and their families? Something is fishy there.

I know Obamacare needs some fixes--at least it was a step in the right direction. This is good news. Now if politicians could just make health care affordable for all. I'd love the same rates as someone in Idaho or other states have. It is estimated that there is at least 100 billion dollars health care fraud annually. There are truly needy people and they should be helped. But there are also many people who don't have health insurance because they just do not want to pay premiums, use their money for other things instead, when they could pay and are able to pay. This is just not right and this needs to be stopped, and that should make a dent in health care costs. Why not go after the health care ...
