Special Ops to Obama: Let us fight ISIS already.

forefront of the battle against ISIS. But U.S. special operators say the Obama administration’s restrictive rules of war are harming their mission. TAMPA, Florida — Fighting simmering frustration in their ranks over ISIS advances in Iraq and Syria, top U.S. special operations commanders say they are building forces for a multi-generational fight—not a war that will be won in the next few years. “We recognize this is a longterm prospect,” said Gen. Joseph Votel, the overall leader of U.S. Special Operations Command, in remarks to The Daily Beast during a special operations forum in Tampa. “We’re patient.” We are doing everything through cellphones… It’s hard to do much when you can’t go outside the wire,” said one special operator, using the military jargon for the perimeter of a base. They blame the hands-off approach on an Obama administration unwilling to risk even small numbers of American lives in battle, burned by the fallout of the loss of four Americans in Benghazi, Libya, and intent on preserving the legacy of President Barack Obama’s troop drawdowns in Iraq and Afghanistan. “You can’t say ‘We’re with you every step of the way, except when you are going on combat operations,’” said a former senior special operations official briefed on the ISIS campaign. He and many other officers, current and former, at the conference believe both Mosul and Ramadi could have withstood the assault of the so-called Islamic State, also known as ISIS, if a small number of U.S. military advisers had been working with Iraqi forces at the front lines...... ;

What advantage could come from war when we aren't even sure who/where they all are? - Julia Sugarbaker

I showed some family and friends this thread this weekend, who are in the military.

Do you know what they said?

They said whomever's mouthing off like this has absolutely no concept of reality, and they clearly have absolutely no actual military experience, training or familiarity with military strategy at all and that if the press is reporting accurately, John McCain has forgotten what it's like to be in action and has either gone senile or can only see dollar signs, now, if he supports taking rash action at this juncture, other than supporting other nations in protection or backup support, as well as continued intel gathering.

They said if we were to go in now, without knowing who and where ISIS lies nor who's funding them, we could "cut off the head and 4 more would grow back."

One thing I'm proud about our military (that I'm not proud of about our average, mouthy, arrogant, ignorant war-mongering, non-military American) is that the actual military HAS learned a thing or two from Vietnam and the Iraq wars - they learned that if we don't know our enemy well enough, we will not win and to learn as much as you can first before risking that many lives like that, ever again.

And they also said, as I've said before, if anyone thinks it's so easy and cheap and that they've got it all figured out, then sign up for the military or go hop on a plane to Israel and buy some weapons and go find out where they all are - live the dream (delusion)!

Be prepared that if anyone actually does sign up for the military?
Though they do foster confidence and American pride, any delusions of grandeur and public display of loose-cannon mouths and/or behavior like that, which would get them all needlessly killed, will be weeded out and happily relieved from you, by your brothers in arms, and very quickly:)

PS - They also said (verbatim), they "Can't believe they fought as they did, and their brothers lost their lives, over the kind of nasty freedom of speech and BS they've seen displayed on this forum, by people who abuse their right to freedom of speech and obviously have taken it for granted."

Now THERE'S some truth.

This poster said: "Said legacy will be going down as THE WORST president ever."

Oh, sorry.... totally incorrect. They actually take polls and surveys of that, and Google is our friend. Obama is actually ranked at 18th with time to move up or down on the list.

The cellar dwellers happen to actually be, the bottom WORST presidents:

35. George W. Bush
36. John Tyler
37. Millard Fillmore
38. Herbert Hoover
39. William Henry Harrison
40. Franklin Pierce
41. Andrew Johnson
42. Warren Harding
43. James Buchanan

Democrats/liberals and even some conservatives will not be the least bit surprised to see George W. Bush on the bottom worst.

I'm sure if they took a poll of the far-right fringe of the right wing, Obama would actually rank the worst, but they actually take polls of political scholars.

Wow. I understand the whole blame the entire debt on Obama fallacy even though the debt wasn't at $0 when he took office, and I understand blaming Obama for pitiful wages even though wages have been remaining stagnant for middle class workers for decades before Obama took office, but conservatives are seriously blaming Obama for the "loss of our moral center and destruction of American values"? LOL. That's a new one I hadn't heard.

Sure, conservatives. Let's just hang Roe v. Wade around Obama's neck and while we're at it, we can blame Obama for all kinds of decisions made by a whole host of other people that aren't him, even the ones that happened before he was inaugurated in January 2009 because.... reasons!

Might as well blame Obama for pornography (freedom of the press still intact), drunkenness (repeal of prohibition by Obama), Iran Contra (24-year-old Obama's influence over the Reagan Administration), Watergate (11-year-old Obama's influence over the Nixon Administration), the Bay of Pigs (Obama the fetus's influence over communist Cuba and Fidel Castro from the cozy environs of his womb in Kenya), and let's not forget the sinking of the Titanic because.... "This is only the tip of the iceberg"!

Hey, conservatives, we get it already. Blaming Obama for everything is just so much easier than actually having to think.

Let's revisit last month when conservatives were praising the virtues of the Christian leaders that were threatening civil disobedience and vowing noncompliance if the Supreme Court legalizes gay marriage in June.

If indeed the actions of the Obama administration were intentional, and you have, as is commonplace with conservatives, actually supplied no link to prove this is remotely the actual case whatsoever, perhaps Obama was taking his "lawless" cues from those bastions of holiness known as the Christian clergy who have vowed to ignore the "activist judges" should the Supreme Court rule against their position on gay marriage.

"Brave Judge" - LOL - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
In my opinion, someone in the right-wing media propaganda machine needs to step up and be honest with their followers. The right-wingers hear only the lies and are kept completely in the dark. They're reading mostly right-wing media websites and watching mostly Fox News, firmly buried in the winger bubble, and being told that the judge ruled Obama's Executive Order unconstitutional. So they'll go months and months actually believing that lie and that the "brave judge" actually did that when it couldn't be further from the truth. LOL.

Judge Hanen didn't remotely rule on the constitutionality of Obama's actions, that's just the right-wing propaganda media version of events. "Brave" Judge Hanen concluded that there was sufficient merit to the challenge brought by the 26 states to warrant a suspension of Obama's executive order while the case was under review. The states bringing the case actually DID argue that the EO was unconstitutional, but the judge explicitly said he would NOT rule on its constitutionality. He merely said the states had proven their grievance enough for the case to proceed. The judge ruled the EO violated the 1946 Administrative Procedure Act, which Judge Hanen interpreted as specifying the president should have formally posted a public notice in the Federal Register about the action and held a public comment period before enacting it.

So sorry you're being lied to by right-wing media who merely use party rhetoric to reinforce the lie that Obama is somehow a lawless president who is shredding the Constitution. LOL. In fact, quite the contrary, the president's power to issue executive orders comes from Congress and the U.S. Constitution, Article II Sections 2 and 3, and, in fact, among two-term presidents, Obama has actually signed the fewest executive orders. It's entirely possible that this little procedural hangup will be reversed on appeal since the ruling did not remotely address the constitutionality whatsoever.

Truth. :)

What planet are conservatives living on? - They just woke up in January 2009!

[ In Reply To ..]
Conservative rhetoric at its absolute finest.

Debt of $19 trillion?
Do conservatives actually think the debt was at $0 when Obama took office? LOL. Did Obama just get to do away with all the laws that Congress already passed that added to the debt before he was ever elected? It don't work that way. It's cute how conservatives want everyone to believe that all that debt just magically showed up on January 20, 2009. Medicare Part D and two unfunded wars and two tax cuts disproportionately favoring the rich weren't exactly the handiwork of Obama. I didn't hear a peep out the conservatives when Bush was tanking the economy and running up the debt. Funny how they're all so concerned about it now. Republicans had no problem at all running up massive debt for tax cuts for the wealthy, corporate welfare to big oil, and their wars and nation building in the Middle East in trying to control the oilfields in Iraq. So Obama walks into office with the economy in free fall in the worst recession since the great depression. Sure, Obama added to the debt with the stimulus, but not all of that stimulus was his. Conservatives want you to forget that the first round of stimulus was Bush's handiwork. Not exactly something you can blame him alone for unless you're just completely blinded by your party glasses and propaganda rhetoric. The debt is a cumulative amount, you know, and previous presidents made policies that grew it, and Congress is in on all those decisions. Meanwhile, the party who is whining the loudest about the debt are whining about lowering taxes. Obama extended the stupid tax cuts that grew the debt in the first place, and now the tax cut whiners blame him for the debt. I wonder if they understand the concept of lower taxes meaning less revenues and higher debt? They seem to want it both ways. Pretty shallow conservative rhetoric under the circumstances. Wouldn't it be nice for conservatives if they could just pin all the debt from previous presidents and Congress/both political parties and hang it all around Obama's neck? Educated Americans know that the debt didn't just magically appear when Obama took office. LOL.

Job killing policies?
Could you be more specific? We have added millions of jobs since Obama took office. Obamacare hasn't killed jobs, actually, just the opposite. The conservative rhetoric on this one is total fabrication.

Deteriorating race relations?
Not exactly a problem Obama invented. I know conservatives are all sold on the Fox News rhetoric about "white victimhood," and it's really funny to watch them go on and on about being "under attack" by the president who had the nerve to get elected and not be a white guy.

Nuclear proliferation in the Middle East?
Are conservatives now advocating a nuclear free Middle East? The UN might be, but Israel sure isn't. Pakistan having nuclear warheads is not exactly the handiwork of Obama. Despite Netanyahu's 2 decades old declaration that Iran is 1 year away from getting nuclear weapons, Iran still has nothing. Whoever do you mean? War with Iran over a non bomb means the debt goes up, but then conservatives don't mind about that war debt piling up since they make such huge profits in the process. LOL.

Overtaxing our resources by allowing illegal aliens free reign?
Illegal aliens don't have "free reign."

Undermining the police and the legal system in general?
This one is the funniest of all. Which police department has been undermined by Obama? Total rubbish and sounds like a Fox News talking point.

Undermining the Constitution of the United States?
I guess this little nugget has to do with Obama writing executive orders. Like Obama invented that! LOL. Pay no attention to George W. Bush and his executive orders taking away our civil rights; blame that whole thing on Obama.

In fact, just blame everything that has happened up to today on Obama, unless it was good, and then all the good stuff happened during Saint Ronald Reagan's presidency. LOL. Except pay no attention to Reagan's tripling of the debt and running record deficits. Wait, what? And pay no attention to Iran contra and arming Iran against Iraq and arming Iraq and Reagan's buddy Saddam Hussein against Iran during the Reagan administration. Wait, what? Yes, Reagan also fought a proxy war with the Soviet Union by training, arming, equipping, and funding Islamist mujahidin fighters in Afghanistan who would among other things become the core of Al-Qaeda, along with providing the fuel for the rise of Osama Bin Laden, prominent mujahidin commander. Mum's the word there.

There's no such thing as a perfect president. Every single one of them makes mistakes, and they walk into office and get handed the entire ball of wax with everything that already happened having already happened and all they can do is move forward. We don't live in a perfect world where nothing ever goes wrong, and God knows there's enough blame to spread around to the various political parties, but the right-wing's obsession with blaming Obama for everything is off the chart bat crap crazy. The inability of conservatives to connect the dots of world events and the gullibility of conservatives to buy into the simplified propaganda rhetoric and their utterly ridiculous talking points never ceases to amaze me and keep me laughing.

If only everyone would buy into the premise that Obama is to blame for 230+ years of American history, everything would be just be great. LOL. :)
I think we are as serious as an IRS audit. Obama is no friend to the - United States. Why would he
[ In Reply To ..]
want to fundamentally change it?
A quote taken out of context does not an Antichrist make. - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Obama made that statement during a speech talking about fundamentally changing the economy. The right-wing propaganda machine took it out of context and ran with it and haven't stopped running with it since. The repetition of the theme is a brainwashing technique to keep hammering away at a false quote that is parsed from a speech. Context matters. Do conservatives ever stop to look at what he said in context? No, they don't care about the truth that Obama was talking about the economy because that wouldn't fit their "evil Obama enemy" worldview and the utter nonsense promulgated by the right-wing propaganda machine.

Besides, what is Obama doing that other presidents before him have not done? I know there is a whole laundry list of propaganda made up things, but he's actually not doing anything that other presidents before him did not do so what makes him any more evil than Reagan or Nixon or either Bush?

What kind of evildoer would announce his sinister plan to a crowd with a television camera in front of his face? No one. It never happened. Context matters.

The fact that conservatives keep saying that line taken out of context over and over and over should clue people in to the fact that it's reinforced conservative propaganda, and that's why they constantly reinforce it and repeat it and repeat it and reinforce it.... because that's the way the propaganda technique actually works is people keep repeating it like it's somehow fact when the whole premise is created fiction.

[ In Reply To ..]
For the world and its history, as well as to Syrians. Why was it undefended?

The problem now is you cannot bomb the crap out of it like we usually do since it is an extremely important historical city. One can only hope ISIS are not having their usual frat party by throwing ancient relics around and destroying them, but that's probably not realistic.

I hope there can be some sort of ground coalition to take it back, but the greatest loss is to Syria. Since Syria seems to be always at war I have to wonder why this happened and why aren't they themselves going in to take the city back?

I am not for the US to go to these countries and act unilaterally because that's how these things keep happening, we go in, start a war, stay there for years, then get out and leave a big hole for whatever warlord can get a foothold, and in the meantime everyone learns "death to America." Rinse, lather, repeat.

These countries have to evolve according to their own rules, but in this case if Syria asked for help I think that would be in order, not just the US though, other countries too, and NO war.
But who do we help in Syria, the Syrian government....sm - Alice

She's going to "consider" bringing jobs back here.  Maybe all you supporters could offer to work for the wages she pays the Chinese to do the work so that poor princess can afford to bring jobs back.  Then again, maybe they'll just bring in foreigners on the HB2 visa program to do them.  Make America Great Again my butt!  They hold everybody else to a standard they do not include themselves to. ...

Here's An Update On The FightApr 08, 2011
It goes by minutes...and by the way, I noticed that the Cherry Blossom Festival will go on.....Reid was so worried about it not happening. On the other Reid comment about women's health and pubs want to take away that funding.  Planned Parenthood is VERY involved in abortion and unplanned pregnancies besides providing other services to women. We Have Only Just Begun To FightMar 23, 2010

One Reason America Is So Special.Oct 13, 2009
The US is special because a decendant of a slave or a poor immigrant can make it into the White House. My own family, decendants of poor Italian immigrants, has its share of successes (although no one in the White House). Very interesting story about Michelle Obama's ancentry. ...
