When I went to college (which was not THAT long ago), I had to work to pay for rent, utilities, etc. Why is that a bad thing these days?

Working is not a bad thing. My guess is you must not have been in the right "minority" group so to speak to get those benefits. I have a friend who had a stroke at the age of 16 and does not have full use of one side of her body. She is now 40+ years old and is having to fight to get government aide, Medicaid, even though she is legitimately disabled. But, these full-abled, lazy A** people who don't want to work to support themselves think they are entitled to everything. It is just so disgusting and makes me sick!

they give extra money in college financial aid for rent - but you have to pay it back. Not sure if the same.
