The so-called racist Republican justice of the peace who refused to perform an interracial marriage was really a lifelong democrat UNTIL 2008, when he switched parties. He was STILL a DEMOCRAT when he refused to do the ceremony and three other interracial marriages as well. The media ONLY got on this one when they thought they could say this guy was a racist republican. They ignored this story when he was a raaaaacist DEMOCRAT, which he was when he refused to do these ceremonies! How typical.... Whoever started the ball rolling on this story should be embarrassed... ;

Here in Ohio there is no mention of a judge's party on the ballet. They are supposed to be impartial, doncha know.

I don't care what party he is/was/shall be. I don't remember the media saying what party he was/is/will be.

This wasn't mentioned at Huffpo or Rawstory because it's not important what party he belonged to.

I guess I know where your priorities lie, taking offense that this story is just coming out now and (if someone digs deep enough for no reason) making the Republicans look bad again. But no one cares that he is a Republican or was a Democrat or is left-handed or drinks coffee instead of tea.

The OP didn't express any opinion at all about interracial marriage. The point she was making had to do with the press, who didn't publicize this judge's malfeasance when he was a registered Democrat. When he became a registered Republican, THEN it was a story. You know they had to know about this incident back when it happened - when the judge was a Democrat.

The OP is simply demonstrating the bias of the press. So the question isn't whether the OP is outraged about the refusal to perform an interracial marriage. The question is: Are YOU outraged that the press is so blatantly biased - of which this is but one of millions of examples.

All of us should be outraged about a press that is NOT independent.

It comes out now that this guy has done this before. I'm sure he's not the only southern (or northern) bigot. But the couple in the news didn't try to get him to marry them before. So, now we know about him.

The "edition" of the story that I watched on the local evening news most definitely DID state that he was a Republican and did NOT mention that he had been doing this while he was a Democrat.

Ah, local news. It didn't make my local news that I know of. It didn't make the national media that I know of. Judges' political affiliations aren't often spoken of, kinda taboo.

But it's misdirection. If the worst that happened is a local news outlet mentioning it, that's not much news and not enough to raise a stink. Crying foul over him being a Republican now when it wasn't in the news...except your local outlet, I guess...takes away from the original story.

I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for the outrage to build here. I think I get what really outrages people and for some, racism just isn't it.
