Almost any scheme that would impose a cost on Mexico for the wall is likely to have some cost to the American citizen as well. If you impose a 20% tax on imports, Mexican goods (e.g. produce) would us cost more for sure, although not 20% more because Mexicans would be pricing themselves out of the market, so they'll adjust their prices to some extent downward.
The fact is, though, that the cost of drugs, human trafficking and the illegal population in the US is approximately 5 times the cost of the most exhorbitant estimate of the cost of the wall, and that's ANNUALLY.
Build the wall and let's stop this silly discussion about who pays. We should be discussing who pays for NOT having a secure border. If you have trouble with that answer, just look in the mirror.
