What We Should Expect From Our President

Posted: Aug 11, 2011

A friend of mine posted this on facebook this morning.

It gets very interesting at about 3 minutes in to the show.

I agree with the speaker.

I agree with the analysis 100% - with regard to

defining the problem, but to say Obama has not addressed the extraction of money from the country by trade, banking and taxes is simply not true. He has proposed reform in all three arenas. Guess what happened to those proposals?

Somehow, I think we should leave the impassioned speeches to the Dylan Ratigans in media, which serve the very useful purpose of sparking national dialog. When Obama makes them, he just gets ridiculed by the haters and senstionalized by their media taskmasters. I do believe Obama could try "taking it to the people," and suspect we will see him doing just that in the months leading up to the election next year. He is a good trailblazer, but I am afraid he has inherited his father's curse, who in Africa attempted to become a great compromiser while putting himself up against some truly crazy, entrenched, pig-headed intransigents. It broke his spirit, ruined his career and turned him into an empty shell of his former self.

Whether any of this ever translates into concrete policy change (which would require a tectonic shift in Congress) is, unfortuntely, exceedingly dubious, though I do think it certainly would appeal to his base supporters and many independents who are feeling beyond frustrated with status quo in Washington. Ultimately, I do not think it is practical to assign this burden to any one single individual, nor do I think it is realistic to think for a moment any party in congress will take this initiative on their own. I think the issue is larger than that. The only entity powerful enough to deliver this message is the voters, who must make their voices heard (hopefully as eloquently as Ratigan did yesterday), engage whole-heartedly in the process, hold the leadership accountable, show up at the election and CLEAN HOUSE.

As a side note, does anyone have any idea where Dylan Ratigan is today? The substitute host said he would be filling in "for the remainder of the week." Hopefully we will not see another articulate and outspoken MSNBC host go the way of KO and Cenk Uygur or get shuffled to a 3 AM time slot at the hands of Comcast execs, who seem determined to homogenize the network into a CNN-esque clone.

I wrote the same reply, but due to a keyboard slip - sm

my message disappeared. I would add that I believe President Obama has already given this speech. However, the media would rather cover the latest picture of M. Bachmann, or the latest gyration of the Wall Street, or the latest celebrity checking into rehab, rather than to cover anything our President has to say on the important matters affecting our country. You have to listen closely. Did Fox cover the speech this afternoon?

Yes they did, saw it live. (nm) - Zville MT

of the hole dug by unions when they oppose the 3 main options that have surfaced.  Do they expect to wave a majic wand and it will all go away? Or do they think they have better ideas and what exactly are they? Ten Things To Expect From Obamacare In 2014Oct 17, 2013
Obamacare's health exchanges opened on October 1. Hopefully you weren't one of the unlucky guinea pigs who attempted to sign up with a system so crummy that even the Washington Post is calling it a disaster. Given that the impact of Obamacare will only grow from here on out, Casey Research asked acclaimed Obamacare expert Dr. Lee Vliet what we should expect as the calendar turns to 2014. Importantly, Dr. Vliet is independent in every sense of the word. Not only is she an indepen ...

Key Democrat Officials Now Warning Base Not To Expect EvidentMar 21, 2017
Key Democratic officials are clearly worried about the expectations that have been purposely stoked and are now trying to tamp them down. Many of them have tried to signal that the beliefs the base has been led to adopt have no basis in reason or evidence. The latest official to throw cold water on the MSNBC-led circus is President Obama’s former acting CIA chief Michael Morell. What makes him particularly notable in this context is that Morell was one of Clinton’s most vocal CIA surrogat ...

Who Would You Like To Run For President?May 28, 2011

The President SaysFeb 22, 2017
Part of what he says is tax cuts will help do that.  We have seen through decades that this has not created jobs and merely put more money in the pockets of the wealthy.  We have a wage gap that is out of this world.  I understand businesses are in business to make money, but there was a time when employers shared the wealth with their employees while still making a good profit themselves, and those times seem to have disappeared.   What things could he do to ensure that the ...

I've been reading this board, and it seems that those who support Pres Obama feel that he is not responsible for much, as it would seem with all of the recent stories hitting the news sites.  His primary voice seems to eminate around the equality being nonexistence.   Exactly what message does that send?  I am a normal individual and it sends the message to me is we are an unfair country, we offer no opportunity to any minority.  Apparently it has sent the sam ...
