Well, well. The Boston brothers did NOT have a license

Posted: Apr 22, 2013

to own guns. This kinda blows the argument that stricter gun control will curb murder and mayhem.  The younger one wasn't old enough to own or buy a gun. The older brother never applied.  He probably wouldn't have been able to lawfully own a gun anyway because of his previous charge in 2009.

They didn't have assault weapons, either, so that blows another argument. Get mad all you gun control posters want, but facts are facts and it's something I've been trying to get you all to think about since Newtown.

WASHINGTON -- The Boston bombing suspects engaged in a deadly firefight with police last week, possessing six bombs, handguns, a rifle and more than 250 rounds of ammunition. But the Tsarnaev brothers did not have proper licenses to possess the firearms, according to the Cambridge Police Department -- a revelation that comes just days after the Senate voted against strengthening and expanding background checks for gun sales.

Cambridge Police Department spokesman Dan Riviello told The Huffington Post that neither Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19, nor Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, appeared to have a license to own a handgun.

"The younger brother could not have applied as he is not 21 years of age and the older brother did not have a license to carry and we have no record of him ever applying," Riviello said.

Under state law, residents under 21 can obtain a firearms ID card that allows them to own shotguns or rifles that hold 10 rounds or less.

Reuters reported that the police in Dartmouth, Mass., where the younger brother was a student, also had no record of gun licenses or ID cards for either brother.

Seems to me the concern should be whether they had chef liscence to justify owning two pressure cookers...

And lets not forget over 20 babies who DID die from being shot.. its not a joke and its not a political statement.. babies dying is okay with the gun lobby... thats a fact.

I'm not sure how people who are against common sense gun laws know that they won't prevent future gun violence.

That argument, in my opinion, is tragic because the only way they will be proved wrong is when the next sensational massacre occurs, not to mention countless murders, suicides, accidents every day that aren't so sensational that may have not happened if we had common sense gun laws.

And of course, if we as citizens ever get lucky enough to be allowed our constitutional right to the pursuit of happiness it will never be documented how many lives were saved as a result of common sense gun laws that 90% of the people want.

You don't have to look far to find evidence - Truthhurts

You said: "I'm not sure how people who are against common sense gun laws know that they won't prevent future gun violence."

The gun laws they are trying to pass are not common sense. It ties the hands of the law-abiding citizen and, again, it will not stop criminals or mentally ill. They will always find a way to get guns...especially since Fast and Furious let all those guns walk.

Mentally ill people are NOT stupid as some people seem to think. In fact, they're smarter than the average person. If you know anyone who is mentally ill, you should know that they are pretty darn good at getting around situations. Just look at what's been going on. Aurora, Newtown, Boston, etc. Those guys were mentally ill but it didn't stop them from getting guns, now did it?

You may find it funny by stating about "debating a crystal ball" but I don't find it funny at all. Look at the former gun ban. Did it do anything to curb gun violence? Nope. Why do you think Congress didn't renew that law? Because it didn't stop the criminals.

They need to ENFORCE the laws on the books now. There are plenty of laws that could curb gun violence but aren't enforced. Wake up.
I am so sick of you telling people to wake up. - sm

all a law-abiding citizen is to murder to not be a law-abiding citizen.

I didn't say ANYTHING about anything being funny. The right wingers are the ones throwing around the LOLs and happy faces.

If anyone is a responsible gun owner, they should have absolutely no problem with common sense (and endorsed by 90% of the people) gun laws.
I agree with you but you're arguing with brick walls here, many here think - mentally ill should be defenseless just because of
[ In Reply To ..]
Most mentally ill are not violent and more likely to be victims then the general population, however many lack critical thinking skills and would rather take the easy way out and stereotype them all as dangerous psychos.

Many here apparently think that just because someone's been "branded for life" and diagnosed with something, regardless of the fact they've been stable for years, or gotten counseling for something or taken meds, that they're less than human and so worthless that they shouldn't be able to defend themselves against rapists, robbers, murderers, burglars and other assorted criminals. As I said, it's easy to do Biden and Obama's "repeat after me" than to actually RESEARCH things.
There are multiple other ways to protect oneself - without the use of firearms.

Pepper spray, stun guns, tasers, etc. All without the risk of a loved one/child accidentally killing themselves with the chosen method of defense and available to all, regardless of mental health history.

Not only should Zimmerman have stayed in his car, he was not supposed to be carrying a weapon, and he was instructed by dispatcher not to give chase, but he did anyhow, because he was a "big man" with a gun. He'll pay and I can't wait.

The problem with bringing abortion into the debate is to make clear the fact that conservatives care about babies until they are born.... liberals care about people after they are born??

Abortions will be unnecessary once the world is perfect.

People will steal guns and buy them illegally. - No reason not to have laws.

[ In Reply To ..]
I don't get why a minority of people are bothered by things like background checks and licensing. The only guess I can make is that they have something that would pop up and disqualify them from owning a gun.

The argument that the government is going to storm people's homes and take ALL! THEIR! GUNS! doesn't cut it for me. We licence all kinds of things in this country, yet we all drive, fish, hunt, etc. People still drive illegally, but you don't hear anyone saying "don't bother with DUI laws, people will drive anyway."

It started out exactly like this - "just want to keep you safe." Make this illegal, then make that illegal, and pretty soon, the government has all the weapons and the people have none, which means they have no way to fight back.

No one's saying this is going to happen in the next 3 years or even the next 20. All it takes is the wrong person in charge and a few executive orders, "It's for the kids," "It's to keep you safe," and we'll either have a police state or a revolution. Our rights have been infringed on and our freedoms are disappearing little by little for decades now, so much so that we hardly even notice anymore. It's only going to stop when the people stand up and let the government know we've had enough. This is enough.

If the gun control laws would have passed as they are, the police in Boston would have been stripped of the weapons they used last week. There were no stipulations in the bills that exempted law enforcement from using AK-15s like they did.

It's not a no-no to most of us. - So, are you saying

The government controls the database on us when we get a license to drive a car, go fishing or hunting, even add an extra bathroom to our home.

might someday come after your car, your fishing pole, or your toilet. They may, however, come for the guns and since they know from the database exactly how many you have, they'll search your house until they get them all. This may not happen tomorrow or even 10 years from now, but all it takes is the wrong person in charge saying the right things for people to just accept this is the right thing to do - I mean, if no one needs an AK47 to defend themselves, why should they have the one they bought before the gun control law passed, right?
or maybe they could use the data base as - evidence

or as a source to track down someone who commits a crime.

Or knowing a gun is registered, the owner of said gun might be deterred from committing a crime or selling/giving a gun to someone illegally knowing the gun will be traced back to them if a crime is committed with the gun.

And the AK47 was illegal until the law was allowed to expire.

Isn't that what congress is for? Checks and - balances? Seems
[ In Reply To ..]
to me that congress is doing a very good job keeping THIS administration from getting anything done; might that not be the case with future administrations as well? Also, since our democracy no longer seems to be representative of its constituents but more representative of industry and corporate lobbyists, I can't see any industry or corporation pushing for the confiscation of all guns/weapons. OTOH,I do see where a lot of legislation could be seen as a trek on a slippery slope.

Department of Homeland Security officials decided not to grant him citizenship after what The New York Times called a "routine background check" revealed that FBI officials had interviewed him in 2011, at the request of the Russian government, which was concerned that he had ties to Chechen terrorists. He was also reportedly involved in an episode of domestic violence in 2009 against his girlfriend."
