University of Minnesota Scientist Drops Bombshell About Walker: Says He Fathered Child at Marquette

Printer-friendly versionSend by email

Yesterday, the University of Minnesota's Dr. Bernadette Gillick was best known as a nationally recognized scientist for her research into how the brain recovers from injuries.

After today, she will likely be forever known for coming forward and telling the world that Scott Walker fathered a child and refused to take responsibility for it while at Marquette:

Bernadette Gillick was a college freshman in 1988 when she first met Scott Walker. It was spring semester, and she had just transferred to Marquette University. She was assigned a room in O’Donnell Hall (then a women’s dormitory), which she shared with her new roommate, Ruth (not her real name). Ruth was dating Scott Walker, who was 20 at the time, and, according to Bernadette, Ruth was deeply in love with him.

Midway through that spring semester, Bernadette alleges, Ruth found out she was pregnant. She informed her boyfriend, Scott, and initially he was supportive. That support changed to callous indifference for his girlfriend’s predicament after Scott informed his parents of the pregnancy.

Bernadette reports that at this point Scott began denying that he was the father of the baby, and when Ruth said she was considering an abortion, he claimed he didn’t care, as he wasn’t the father anyway.

Bernadette remembers being present when Ruth was dealing with the wrath of Scott’s mother, who allegedly admonished Ruth for trying to “ruin [her son's] reputation.”

“I supported her [Ruth] as he [Scott] went from encouraging her to get an abortion, to telling me it was in my best interest to keep my mouth shut, to denying that he was the father and having his own mother call her and tell her to stop erroneously accusing her son of paternity,” Bernadette recounts.

It was a “horrible time” for her friend. “Imagine her being 18 years old and pregnant, walking around Marquette’s Jesuit Catholic campus with her boyfriend denying he was the father,” says Bernadette.

All this was taking place while Walker was running for student body president. As one of his classmates, Dr. Glenn Barry recalled, Walker’s campaign was, “one of the dirtiest in school history.” The student newspaper Marquette Tribune called him “unfit for office” after his campaign was discovered collecting and throwing out copies of their paper that endorsed his opponent. Commenting on the election and Walker’s political career and style at Marquette, he noted, “Walker lost on all counts, but not before destroying a few people’s reputations, and amassing personal power.”

If Bernadette’s story is true, Ruth – and eventually their child – were just a few of the people who got in the way of Walker’s quest for power.

After consulting with her family, Ruth decided against an abortion. Bernadette was with Ruth in the hospital for the birth of her child later that year (and says Walker was not present), and later stood up as a bridesmaid in Ruth’s 1992 marriage to another man. She says Walker eventually had to concede that he was the father, after the birth and paternity test.

Normally I would roll my eyes at such a story, but considering the impeccable credibility of the source, I can't fathom a scenario where what she is saying isn't true.

Also, keep in mind that Gillick is represented by Michael Fargione, an attorney who is well-credentialed and highly respected, by both his peers and the judiciary.

Yanno, the timing of this "newsworthy" leak is ummm questionable, to say the least. If there was any truth, why was it not leaked when he was running for governor, or in the middle of this latest recall campaign?? But the DAY BEFORE the election?? I hope they get to the bottom of this, for the world to clearly see the dirty tricks behind this.

Fake. - xxx

There has been a report in the local media that she may have confused him with a different Scott Walker - same first and last name, different middle name.

Scott KEVIN Walker has run for office multiple times...governor, Milwaukee County Executive, state assembly.

If he fathered a child 24 YEARS AGO - it would have come out before now.

Just a hail Mary from the Dems who can see the writing on the wall.

Our "personally popular" President didn't even come campaign for Walker's opponent. Even he knows a lost cause when he sees one.

From "The Daily Kos" "The story that Scott Walker abandoned his pregnant girlfriend in college failed the first test of verification by a professional reporter. Daniel Bice, the “Watchdog” reporter of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Online interviewed the anonymous woman who had the baby, but she adamantly denied that Scott Walker was the father according to a comment by Daniel Bice to the linked story.

"I am getting a lot of emails because of this post. Two things: (1) I tracked down and talked to Dr. Gillick’s freshman-year roommate at MU yesterday, and she adamantly denies that Walker is the father of her child. Yes, she got pregnant as a first-year student, but she believes Dr. Gillick is mixing up stories; and (2) I Can Read CCAP has taken a family court suit involving Scott Alan Walker and mixed it up with the governor, Scott Kevin Walker."

Writing on the wall? This race is too close to call. - Beside, 4 GOP senators are being recalled as well

[ In Reply To ..]
After outspending Barrett 25:1, Scottie Boy has only managed to rack up a 2% "lead"...a statistical dead heat. Regardless of who wins the governor's contest, since the last senate recall replaced 2 GOP senators with 2 democrats, and GOP Pam Galloway resigned her 29th district seat, the WI state senate composition is now 50% GOP and 50% democrat. If the democrats win just ONE of the 4 senate recall races, they will hold the majority and will be able to put a stranglehold on anything Scottie thinks he's gonna dish out.

There's more than one way to skin a weasel and that so-called writing on the wall bears a strong resemblance to gang graffiti that could very well end up with a fresh coat of whitewash by week's end.

Any of you with such strong opinions actually live in Wisconsin? Just wondering. You can judge all you want, but as a wisconsonite, I can say barrett has also done some significant harm/damage during his tenure. Neither one of them is any good. Just like the upcoming presidential election, there is NO GOOD CANDIDATE. There isn't even a lesser of two evils. And it doesn't make one bit of difference if they are republican and democrat. There is NO GOOD CANDIDATE.
I agree and disagree with this. - Lone Star Lib here (endangered species)

Let's get the disagree out of the way first. Walker accepted $2.4 million in out-of-state donations. 13 out of 14 of his billionaire supporters do not live in WI and 47% of all contributions came from out of state. This is the same Scott Walker who just a few months ago was whining about how out of state money was bankrolling he recall efforts. Not only does that make him a big fat hypocrite, but IMO it also makes this election fair game for microscopic examination nationwide. Of no small consequence, ALEC legislative models have launched multiple assaults on union rights in numerous other states. Like it not, that issue is and will continue to be of national interest, regardless of the recall outcome.

I do agree with you about the NO GOOD CANDIDATE part and I too do not see much of a difference between the two. I take issue with your attempt to exend the "lesser of two evils" argument and apply it to the national election, where I can clearly see which is which. In Wisconsin's guber recall, not so much.

That's why my eyes will be turned on the senate recalls, which I find more interesting, especially because the current 50-50 composition is tipped slightly toward the democrats favor with the help of GOP maverick Dale Schultz, who breaks ranks on union issues. One victory in those senate recalls could change that picture and throw a nice heavy wet blanket on Walker's aggressive agendas for the foreseeable future, whether his term comes to an end this week or not.
