and finding containers of gasoline and weapons near the G-20 summit site.
Police spokeswoman Nathalie Deschenes said Thursday there was an array of unspecified weapons in the car. A police hazardous unit is going through the car.
A chain saw and a cross bow were seen next to the car after police pulled it over. Police flagged the Hyundai Elantra after deeming it suspicious.
A large makeshift container was strapped to the roof of the car.
The car was pulled over a few blocks from where world leaders will meet, but not within the security perimeter.
The arrest was made at the corner Esplanade and Scott in downtown Toronto. The city's downtown core resembles a fortress with thousands of police. A big steel and concrete fence surrounds several blocks around the summit site.
Canadian police announced earlier Thursday that the common-law partner of a man facing charges in a G-20 security investigation has been charged with explosives offenses. Those cases did not appear to be related to the arrest Thursday afternoon.
Byron Sonne, 37, was arrested Tuesday and faces several charges including possession of explosives, weapons dangerous, intimidating a justice system participant and mischief. His partner, 370-year-old Kristen Peterson has been charged with possession of an explosive device and possession of weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Thirty-seven-year-old Kristen Peterson of Toronto, has been charged with possession of an explosive device and possession of weapon for a dangerous purpose, and is due in court today at 2 p.m.
Toronto and provincial police executed search warrants Wednesday at residences in the Township of Tiny, about 150 kilometres north of Toronto, and in the Township of Lake of Bays, near Algonquin park.
Meanwhile, Byron Sonne, 37, faces several charges including possession of explosives, weapons dangerous, intimidating a justice system participant and mischief.
Sonne was arrested Tuesday, the same day police raided a home in an affluent neighborhood in the city's north end.
He is due back before a judge on Saturday for a bail hearing, in a special court set up to deal with cases related to the G20 summit.
