interesting points.  The article is about the ban.  It seems to me that the president should continue, as both Bush and Obama did, on putting new and adventagious things in the vetting process.  We can always improve on things but an all-out ban to me is not adventagious.

The video in this touches on a few other points.  Perhaps listen with an open mind and maybe you will see how this "fine tuned" machine is running.

;

Not surprising that people from the former administration - are defending their vetting process.

A couple of points if I might:

1. The "ban" was (and I assume the new one will be) temporary to give the new administration time to evaluate the vetting process, and it only involves 7 nations that the former administration had already identified as the worst hotbeds and sponsors of terrorism.

I think this is a perfectly reasonable thing for an incoming administration to do.

2. I agree that the various databases that are under the control of different agencies (and even different countries) should be coordinated. However, it still begs the question whether, even taken altogether, these databases are sufficiently complete, timely and accurate that they can be relied upon.

You know the old saying about computers (and databases in particular): Garbage in, garbage out. What's particularly worrisome about any database is that it will never tell you what it doesn't know.

For instance, what, precisely, does it mean if there is no record on someone in the database? You query their name and nothing comes back. Should we take that as some sort of assurance that they are not a terrorist? Obviously, the answer is "Absolutely not!"

It might be that after review the Trump administration determines that the current vetting process provides a good basis for moving forward with some improvements and enhancements. I'm perfectly willing to give them that time, and the temporary ban that is limited to the worst sources of terrorists while they are doing so seems very sensible to me.

Except the countries he is banning are - not the

"worst sources of terrorists." One of those would include Saudi Arabia as in 911 but he has business interests there so can't ban them.

We have a pretty good vetting system already and advancing it would be good but you don't have to ban those countries to do it.

You're an expert on terrorism, are you? On the other hand - I do hold certification (United Nations).

You're a medical transcriptionist. Please feel free to opine to your heart's content within your area of expertise.

Otherwise, give it a rest, please. If I were to make you responsible for protecting this nation from terrorism you wouldn't have the slightest notion how to proceed.

in this country caused by a refugee from one of those 7 countries. The real danger is from home-grown terrorists and that is not being addressed. Also, as the other poster said, immigrants from Saudi Arabia, Egypt and some other countries where Trump has business interests.
I never claimed to - be an expert

on terrorism but I do know apparently more than the president on where the "worst terrorists" are coming from and it is not the countries he wants to ban. It is from the countries he has business interests in and I named Saudi Arabia as one.

Maybe you should tell him to give it a rest and listen to the experts who do know about terrorism have to say. He should also address and do something about home grown terrorism which is a far worse threat than people from these countries.
So this is a board called MT stars, for MTs - and we should not opine?
[ In Reply To ..]
Umm, nah, that's not how it works.

We're allowed to opine on anything we feel is impacting our sad little lives, are we not? This is America, after all, and this is MT Stars board, NOT United Nations certification board.

Why not find one of them where you can converse with your equals instead of telling us MTs on our MT board to shut up?

If you were to make us responsible for protecting this nation from terrorism we would do a heck of a lot better than the Donald, at least we would listen to the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the heads of the CIA and FBI, not Putin or whoever he is taking advice from.

I have to wonder, if you are NOT an MT, why are you on here then?
A certificate or certification? Interesting. - in what discipline?

Not really surprising how much of it goes to Muslim or Arab countries, but what the money is actually used for was an eye opener for me.  Most Arab countries are oil rich....so my question is, why can't they take care of their own military and police forces and let us put some of those billions against reducing the deficit? Or...why not use that money to fund some of the programs people seem to think they can't live without within THIS country instead of ADDING to the deficit? ...
