The military has just taken over Egypt. Wonder what's next.

Posted: Jul 3, 2013

Morsi is no longer president. I can't type fast enough to give military's statement so you'll just have to wait and see what the news states.

Wonder how Obama feels about this. After all, he backed Morsi during the elections.

Islamic leadership being deposed and military appears - supportive of secular opposition

[ In Reply To ..]
for now. How transition handles Islamic party supporters (peaceful, repressive or violent) and results from planned early elections will be fascinating to watch.

Wonder if they will hold full staged elections again for president - and parliament

[ In Reply To ..]
since the FJP prevailed on both fronts last time. Impossible to tell how badly Morsi damaged that brand over the past year. That is why interim leadership needs to proceed very cautiously. History tells us that party repression in the Middle East creates martyred candidates sympathetic voters often defend.

Obama did NOT "support Morsi during the elections." - Where does this junk come from?

[ In Reply To ..]
What he did was accept the will of the Egyptian people after their very close elections that Morsi won by plurality but not be majority in terms of secular opposition. The president has also stated in no uncertain terms that "the United States is committed to the democratic process in Egypt and does not support any single party or group."

Maybe from the people of Egypt. Have you seen their signs? - just sayin

Time stamps tell a different story. These signs were posted 6 hours after TH took the cheap shot. Neither she nor the Egyptian protesters can rewrite the record of statements the president made prior to, during and after the election in Egypt. His policy toward Egypt has been appropriate, given the US past history of blunder after blunder after blunder in the region.

It's about time SOMEONE try to change the course of US "involvement." This revolution is not about us and our "interests." It's about the Egyptians and how THEY will proceed with their journey toward democracy. The president's words, both at the time of the previous election and what he said to Morsi yesterday, indicate he understands this very well.
No thanks - not into the lets blame Bush mentality - sticking with present day events

That post does not mean anything. I'll stick with the current events at what is happening now.

What I do thank God for is that the people of that country know this isn't the decision of the people of the country. The most truthful tell taling poster was the acronym for USA.
It is this kind of ****************** that enables and perpetuates - the quagmire that the entire world

protests against relative to US policy in the Middle East. I suggest you read up on how that was expressed between Jan 3 and Apr 12 2003 by 36 million people in 3000 separate protests. Feb 15-16 alone saw 10 million in 600 cities come out, including 3 million in Rome, recorded in Guinness as the largest antiwar protest ever recorded.

Failing to connect the dots and respond accordingly over the past 70 years is precisely how we earned our "Most Hated" status in the region in the first place and has contributed significantly to the decline in US global standing, which is continuing to evolve as we speak. What happened in Egypt's protests is not confined to Egypt and cannot be taken out of historical context and dumped on the shoulders of one single US leader, INCLUDING BUSH.
there was no let's blame Bush mentality in that post - silly wabbit

OMG of course he's gonna say that - me

He talks out of both sides of his mouth, he lies all the time. Like they said, wake up america.

When in recent history has the Middle East *not* - protested the US?

[ In Reply To ..]
I don't think there's anything we can do to truly make peace with the Middle East. We should keep trying, but I don't expect the Middle East to ever accept the US, for a wide variety of reasons.

Morsi - me

What I read is Morsi polarized the entire country and people were sick of it. Much like you know who is doing to us. I'm glad the military had to sense to listen to what the people want and now the country hopefully will be run by secular people, citizens instead of the big-fisted Islamic laws that kill Christians and hang their heads on poles and also chop off infidel's heads off. And hopefully the real peace agreement between Egypt and Israel will stay true.

Is Democracy Viable? By Thomas Sowell Those who see hope in the Middle East uprisings seem to assume that they will lead in the direction of freedom or democracy. There is already talk about the "liberation" of Egypt, even though the biggest change there has been that a one-man dictatorship has been replaced by a military dictatorship that has suspended the constitution. Perhaps the military dictatorship will be temporary, as its leaders say, but we have heard that song before. What ...

Obama Admin. Hit For Giving Egypt $250M Mar 05, 2013
In part: The Obama administration is facing criticism for giving $250 million in aid to Egypt while saying the recent sequester has forced drastic cutbacks elsewhere in the budget -- including forcing the release of "low-priority" illegal immigrants from jail. "With sequestration forcing our nation to face billions of dollars in cuts across the government, it is unfathomable that the administration would send funds unconditionally to the Muslim Brotherhood-led government," Republican Rep. ...

The GOP Vs The MilitaryFeb 03, 2010
Interesting indeed! From Andrew Sullivan's blog:02 Feb 2010 07:22 pmThe GOP vs The MilitarySteve Benen makes an interesting point: Obama has spent a year following the guidance of military leaders, and Republicans have spent a year breaking with the judgment of the military establishment. It's a fascinating dynamic. On everything from civilian trials to Gitmo to torture, we have two distinct groups -- GOP leaders, the Cheneys, Limbaugh, and conservative activists on one side; President ...

Military BurielDec 02, 2009
I don't know for sure but given the fact that I was married to a military man for 9 of our 18 years, it all sounds llike crapola to me, all coming from her.  The Red Cross may be able to help.  They were our liason when we needed to contact one of our guys out to sea on a submarine.  We were generally not allowed to know where they were at any given time and were out of contact with our husbands for sometimes 100 or more days at a time, so we used them as the go-between.&nbs ...

Muslims And Gays In The MilitaryFeb 03, 2010
OK, somebody has to say it. It’s uncomfortable and it makes whoever says it open to being called a “Pharisee,” a “homophobe,” a “bigot,” a sanctimonious hater, a benighted troglodyte, or worse. Somebody has to endure that, though. We need to act like grown up, secure people who can talk about difficult things and resolve them. So, to quote one of my favorites, Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band, “Call me a relic, call me what you will. Say I&rsq ...
