I'll concede the point that no civilian needs to own an assault rifle. I'll even say that they should be outlawed and no one should be able to buy or own one legally in the US.
Now tell me how you plan stop people from getting assault rifles and using them.
After all, I think we can agree that no one needs a pipe bomb. That didn't stop San Bernardino. It didn't stop Oklahoma City.

Columbine was 1999. The Federal Assault Weapons ban was signed in 1994. Weapons used in Columbine included those under ban, namely the TEC-9.
First, get your facts straight. The AR-15 is NOT an assault rifle. This is a pejorative term that - liberal media uses to frighten the public..

Although the AR-15 (civilian) looks like a military weapon, it is not and no soldier would ever carry it into battle. True military field rifles of this type are full automatic - like a machine gun - and full auto weapons have been forbidden to the general public SINCE 1934, except for a small number of gun collectors and gunsmiths who have gone through a very extensive background check and paid a lot of money to get a federal license to own them.
Second, these being nothing more or less than ordinary semiautomatic rifles, they can be sold by any licensed gun dealer just like any other hunting rifle - and it might surprise you to learn that the AR-15 IS INDEED USED EXTENSIVELY FOR HUNTING, as well as for target sports. It has a number of physical characteristics such as size and weight that make it ideal for packing into the outback.
