SORRY MR, BECK JESUS PREACHED SOCIAL JUSTICE

Posted: Mar 12, 2010

Calling all thinking people and Beckbots:  Ya gotta check out this marquee at a CHURCH:

http://www.cnn.com/2010/LIVING/03/12/beck.boycott/index.html?hpt=C2

BECK IS FINANCED BY THOSE WHO DON'T WANT TO SPEND $ TO HELP THE LESS FORTUNATE.  Lets call Beck what he is and expose his ulterior motives!!

;

Jesus did not and could not have - preached social justice.

[ In Reply To ..]
Jesus preached a gospel of (individual) charity and selflessness - a far cry from "social justice".

Remember, the Jews in Jesus' time lived under Roman rule and He could not have preached "social justice" without advocating that the Jews overthrow the Romans. Other Jews (Barabus, for instance) advocated and even tried to foment such uprisings, but Jesus never did. Quite the opposite, in fact.

As for your assertions about who finances Mr. Beck, which of the sponsors of his program were you referring to, and what is your proof that they "don't want to spend $ to help the less fortunate"?

LOL you don't know squat about Jesus' teachings if you think for - smokethis

[ In Reply To ..]
a new york second that Jesus did not preach social justice!

You might want to check the definition of social justice - and perhaps even check out what this CHURCH with the marquee has to say on the subject. I provided a link in the original post. Suffice to say YOUR lecture is predicated on a falsehood.

As to the Beck question: do you really think I would take the time to try to educate and/or convince you of my position? ANY honest person knows that ALL talking heads are bought and paid for babysitter/entertainers. You either already know this and just want to TRY to pick apart my stance OR you don't know it. In the case of the latter, it's not to late to educate yourself :)

P.S. for the part of the board that has an open mind - smokethis

[ In Reply To ..]
The term 'social justice' was not coined until around 1840. So TECHNICALLY the term could not mean the same in Jesus' time as it did in 1840, or as it would NOW.

That said, the basic tenets of social justice call that we give to the poor and in general take care of our fellow man. And this goes to the HEART of what Jesus taught.

And the basic tenets of ANY civilized nation is to do just that...

THE BECKSTER would like you to believe that all these needs can be handled by we the people - no need for any government 'mandates.

Becks' message is insidiously revolting: IF people did the right thing the government would not need to act on behalf of the poor.

note the word IF.

IF THE PEOPLE don't handle the problem, what then, Beck? Just step over the poor on your way to the bank?

There but for the grace of God go you or I - for my part I could NOT belong to a church who did not preach about social justice.

UNTIL OR UNLESS the job is done by the people, this government MUST step up.

Here Here! Seems that only us who live in - reality seem to

understand this. Great post, smokethis!

Most nonresponsive answer I believe I've ever - seen on this or any forum.

[ In Reply To ..]
First, the fact that a particular minister thinks a thing doesn't make it so.

Second, since YOU are the one supporting this assertion, it's fair to ask which of Jesus' teachings you're referring to as advocating "social justice".

Third, I doubt that you yourself have a clear definition of "social justice" that you can defend.

Fourth, the idea that "ANY honest person knows (whatever YOU think..." is called poisoning the well, and it's a childish form of argumentation. There are plenty of honest people who don't "know" any such thing.

Fifth, no one has to "TRY" to pick apart your stance because you manage to fall on your bum all by yourself. You have no stance.

OK you can count to five apparently, but ... - smokethis
[ In Reply To ..]
we'll just have to agreeto disagree.

You believe what you want: I'll believe Jesus advocated for the poor and wanted all of us to do so as well.

THAT MY FRIEND *IS* social justice.
No, that is NOT "social justice". - You cannot define terms any way you want.
[ In Reply To ..]
Let me give you an example: Did Jesus advocate "justice" for the poor, or "social justice"? What is the distinction? How did Jesus believe that the problems of the poor should be solved?

It's simply silly to suggest that people who believe in the capitalist system of economics "do not care" about poor people. (In fact, who would care more than a capitalist about everyone having the means to buy his products?)

Or, this question: Who gives more to charity - capitalists or socialists?

You've bought into a bunch of leftist garbage. Divest yourself of the nonsense and then return to the forum when you've something intelligent to say.

A social justice democrat believes in giving poor and disadvantaged people handouts which helps them remain victims.

A conservative wants poor and disadvantaged people to learn how to fend for themselves, which they can do if they are given the right tools.

Therefore, I'd say Jesus was NOT a social justice liberal at all!

did not expect social justice in this world, but rather in his kingdom. For now, he even said to render unto Ceasar what is Ceasar's. That does not mean it is wrong to be charitable, but Jesus was not involved in the governments of this world.

it is just AMAZINGLY laughable HOW far some will go to twist what Jesus stood for, what he preached.

*You* may be easily manipulated into believing otherwise but Jesus preached what EQUATEs to 'social justice.'

You are confusing this term with SOCIALISM - and they are most certainly NOT the same.

The issue of a highly paid ENTERTAINER telling people to leave churches which support social justice is what started this conversation.

It's mindboggling to see the number of posts who defend this position and dont question HIS motives!

Some of you are paid posters for the faction who would like to confuse social justice with socialism; the rest are clearly misguided.

You are - incorrect

[ In Reply To ..]
Then why did He say "What you do for the least of these, you've done for me." This is now, not in His kingdom.

Why did he refer to the poor and helping them many, many times in scripture...now.

Why did he tell the Church to give an offering in proportion to their income, which Paul took and distributed to the needy...now.

Yes, it is not wrong to be charitable, but it is also not wrong to be an advocate for the poor. Standing up for something that is a gross injustice IS something Jesus did.

Social justice removed slavery, a woman not being able to vote, a black child of God not being able to sit in the front of the bus.

And don't forget..Jesus Himself was poor.

The whole story...sm - oldtimer

The Bible states that hostile questioners tried to trap Jesus into taking an explicit and dangerous stand on whether Jews should or should not pay taxes to the Roman occupation. They anticipated that Jesus would oppose the tax, for Lukeâs Gospels explains their purpose was âto hand him over to the power and authority of the governor.â[2] The governor was Pilate, and he was the man responsible for the collecting of Rome's taxes in Judea. At first the questioners flattered Jesus by praising his integrity, impartiality and devotion to truth. Then they asked him whether or not it is right for Jews to pay the taxes demanded by Caesar. In the gospel of Mark, the additional, truly provocative question is asked, "Should we pay or shouldn't we?" [3] Jesus first called them hypocrites, and then asked one of them to produce a Roman coin that would be suitable for paying Caesarâs tax. One of them showed him a Roman coin, and he asked them whose name and inscription were on it. They answered, âCaesarâs,â and he responded âGive to Caesar what is Caesarâs, and give to God what is Godâs.â His interrogators were flummoxed by this authoritative (though ambiguous) answer and left disappointed.

Beck is going to end up hanging himself. On his daily radio and television shows last week, Fox News personality Glenn Beck set out to convince his audience that "social justice," the term many Christian churches use to describe their efforts to address poverty and human rights, is a "code word" for communism and Nazism.
