So... what if we don't strike... hypothetical musings

Posted: Sep 4, 2013

So a little girl hits a little boy every day to get his lunch money, but the little boy can't defend himself because he's not supposed to hit girls.

BUT, the little boy's parents are sick and tired of the little girl taking advantage of their young, respectful, ethical son.  So they tell the little boy to tell the little girl he has permission to hit her if she tries to steal his lunch money again.

Would the threat alone be a deterrant?

I would love to see all this play out where Assad is forced to be looking over his shoulder 24/7, waiting, waiting... Obama gets the green light from Congress, so the strike could be any time, any where, waiting... Tick tock.  What is the time limit? 90 days?  what a psychological game this could turn into... of course, just the musings of a bleeding heart lib who wants to think of any possible scenario other than missles, violence, death, chain reactions, etc.

It's pretty shameful that some Republicans here want to turn this into a no matter what Obama does is wrong fest, but the unfortunate norm here.  Whatever the issue is, even if originates as a conservative principle, if Obama puts his stamp on it, it MUST be evil.  BUT, if a Rep president had the same agenda in this circumstance it would be okay.  Bombs away.

I don't want Obama to strike.  That's why I came up with the above fantasy.  I understand the rationale and the degrading rationale, but IMO, it doesn't solve the problem and I don't think America should have to be responsible for policing the world alone.

I wonder how many Cons/Reps here would be willing to step up and say they support a strike, if they really do, but don't say it because Obama proposed a strike.

Your post is all over the place and doesn't make sense - Not a lib or a con

Don't know what your little boy and girl thingy has to do with politics. It has no relevance to politics or Assad. Maybe a grown up approach would have been better if you were trying to make a point.

I am neither a con or a lib. Or the more correct way to say that is I am not a con lib, since they are both the same thing. There is no difference. With that said I don't want to see any war started because Assad has done nothing wrong for them to go to war over. War is never the answer. Then what would they go to war over? Because I wanted to? Doesn't make sense.

I don't want Assad to be looking over his shoulder 24/7. I don't want any country's leader to be looking over their shoulder. Whatever differences there are should be settle peacefully and through discussions.

I think it's pretty shameful that there are liberals who keep up this faux whatever Obama does is wrong fantasy. Nobody here on this board has come across with that. With that said there are circumstances that Obama has been wrong on. Same with other presidents. No president is right 100% of the time. Also nobody is saying "evil" here. Another fantasy that keeps getting repeated here, but without any proof.

There is no "whatever Obama does is wrong fest". Another fantasy portrayed by those who don't want anything Obama does to be questioned.

The only thing you are correct on is what you wrote is a fantasy and only that. Some facts would have been better, not fantasies or childish school stories.

Nobody should be supporting any strikes especially directed at someone who has done nothing wrong and who is trying to put an end to the violence.

Maybe do a little bit of research on Assad. Pretty interesting what you come up with when you don't listen to the lame stream media.

I think you may have missed the point, but glad you got to blow off some - steam

I think you needed that!

peace :-)

No steam was blown - awwww....not even a nice try - Not a lib or con - sm

There is nothing in my post that even suggests steam was blown or needed to be blown.

On the contrary, your post would have been better posted under the OPs message. Looks like she is the one who needed to blow off steam.

Oh BTW I didn't miss the point at all. That's because there was no point. Just the ramblings of a "bleeding heart liberal" trying to post a hate message towards conservatives. Funny thing is...they are all one in the same.

Next time when you try to ridicule a poster, at least have the context fit the post you are replying to.

Peace be with you.

And telling the poster what she was "trying" to do. And waving the ridicule flag. What a perfect trifecta.
Awww....there were no "false allegations" - Not a lib or con

Her post was riddled. I was being mild in my words.

But I'll take back the trying. Instead I'll change it to "The next time you ridicle". After all "trying" really wasn't the right word to use because she "was" ridiculing. The context still didn't fit the post she was replying to.

Perfect trifecta???? huh? Wanna try again?

you guys need to get some new material. You are posting messages that have nothing to do with what I wrote. Why not just pull a message off of the gab board talking about ghosts or gardening.

not even close.

Not-a-con-lib? You are conservative in your general - bent. Possibly libertarian, haven't

[ In Reply To ..]
ruled that out. You are not liberal.

These terms refer to basic personality orientations. Not political party affiliations or positions on issues. We ALL have these orientations. There are real differences in how the brains of each process information.

But it's far more complex than just "red-blue." There are different types of conservatives and of liberals. You'll notice a lot of references to social conservatives and economic conservatives these days--some are both, some are only one, but real differences in how information is processed are seen between them. A person can be both liberal and conservative, and in various degrees, in orientation to different issues (but I suspect you are not). The type(s) of conservative you are I don't know, although I suspect there's plenty in your post to clue in a political sociologist or psychologist.

Those people who are more extreme in their orientation hold profoundly different viewpoints not just from people on the other "side" but from moderates on their own -- to the point that people usually literally can't even understand how the others think (without the help of a skilled psychologist in a group session devoted to it, anyway).

Interestingly, although we tend to think of political orientation as a straight line from extreme right to extreme left, it's actually more like a circle with the people on the extremes of both "sides" coming around and meeting at the extremes. Back around this time last century, right-wing fascist and left-wing communist parties used to seduce each others' more extreme followers away from each other -- just as these days there's not much difference from an extreme environmentalist who'd put nails in a tree to try to main and kill lumberjacks and someone who'd plant a bomb in an abortion clinic. Each could be typically be "turned" to apply their zeal to the other crusade, whereas most moderate liberals and conservatives could not be persuaded to either.

In any case, we all may fall at various points on that spectrum, circle, line. band, sphere, depending on the issue. Hope this helps you figure out where you lie.

I'm feeling groggy. What does "bh lib" indicate? - Is "lib" libertarian? Thanks. nm
