And the aide even pulls the sanctity card in the same sentence! You can't make this stuff up.

Mr. Romney has answered three questions from the American press pool during this trip. The message is loud and clear: I answer to no one.

Just this past weekend, the most significant security threat to the US was Iran. With such tectonic shifts in foreign policy by pander, in such short periods of time, it's no wonder his surrogates' nerves are so fried! If I were them, those too-kind "kiss my ass" and "shove it" comebacks would not be exclusively reserved for pesky reporters. It would take every ounce of self control I have to keep myself from telling Mr Moonwalk what I REALLY think.

Bless their hearts. Though their jobs cannot be easily outsourced, even THEY have to live in terror of facing unemployment and overcoming the hack job their boss would do on their resumes should they decide to do a little moonwalking of their own. Bet they CAN'T WAIT to come home where their generic press conference trivia is eagerly gobbled up by Fox and friends, and a few select privileged alternate outlets.

An oxyMORONIC statement if ever there were one. Contrary to previously explored British language divides, perhaps "backside" would have been a better choice of words in Poland. Don't know if the "shove it" came before or after this directive. The open plaza was at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. I suppose it could have been worse. It might just as easily have happened at Warsaw's Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, of maybe the Franciscan Monastery at Miodowa.

Anyway, sometimes the devil is in the details and it seems appropriate to put the incident in its full context, both in terms of the site and the full statement, in order to savor the extent of this reckless behavior. Walking backwards does not begin to excuse it.

The whole thing probably could have been avoided had team Romney not been so abrasive and aloof with the press, who had been asked to submit quotes for approval, barred from asking questions on the rope line, and were temporarily barred from entering a fundraiser to which they’d been promised entry (after media outrage, the campaign reversed its decision).
