Screen names

Years ago when I was posting fairly regularly almost everyone used the same screen name even for political posts. Can anyone tell me why very few of us do this any more. I find it helpful to know if I'm arguing with the same person or many different ones.

for our political beliefs, especially if we used our names. Certain posters looked for us and would just go after us. I know that once I stopped using my name and just started using the moniker finishing my thoughts a lot of the attacks stopped. I have a couple friends who don't post under their old monikers either.

In today's day and age it's easier to remain anonymous (and sometimes smarter).

I use screen name space to make a point - in case no one reads the inside post

I see no reason to identify myself so people attack me for what they think I am (politically) rather than read my ideas and thoughts.

To expand on what the others said, I witnessed certain names being followed for the sole purpose of instigating an argument, even when on other MTStars boards. This did not happen to me as I am more of a lurker on the politics board. What did happen to me, though, is someone started using my user name on the Main board and posting things that were not even close to my opinions. Some even asked about my wellbeing because the tone and opinions were contrary to my usual posts.

someone would answer his/her posts or disagree with a post. Super paranoid. I remember being accused of "stalking" when I just added to a thread that had nothing to do with his/her personal post, just to the general content of the conversation. Got to the point where I would never post here if I saw that the paranoid person had posted.

I have a VERY active 3 year old granddaughter who is hard to keep up with . Once we found and put up all the markers in the house and gave her crayons, we thought our problems were solved. Little did we know that crayon is way harder to get off than marker. At lesat the markers were childrens' markers and were washable! At least we've learned. Speaking of uninformed, there are 820 PP clinics and around 68 million women of child-bearing age in the US. That works out to around 82,927 women per clinic. Yeah, that'll work. Access for those who live hundreds of miles from the nearest facility could prove problematic, dontcha think? Of those, only a small percentage qualify for tiered cost programs. I understand wanting to have a name that is different. My DD was born during the time when Jennifer was the most popular name. She ran around with a group of girls in her classroom that were called The Jennifers. I have to say that all four of my kids have names that were popular at the time, Jennifer, Kevin, Michael, and William. We didn't plan that, it just happened. Reading too many posts calling specific posters names. Messages calling posters names have been deleted with a warning to stop with the name calling and yet I'm reading more name calling from those same posters. Discuss issues and leave it at that. and it is interesting. After watching Jennifer's unchecked spread to engulf the entire nation in the 1970s, though, this proof that there is such a thing as national unity started reminding me more of epidemic disease spread, a type that affects the brain.
