Obama Stoops To Begging Iran On Behalf Of Americans

ran: Just when we thought the president couldn't stoop any lower, he compares American opponents of a bad nuclear deal to Iran's hardcore Islamists — and begs Iranians to back their terrorist oppressors. Addressing the people of an enemy power is not unprecedented for a U.S. president; President Nixon did it in a 1972 broadcast from the Kremlin as a naive detente advanced, which Ronald Reagan undid in the succeeding decade. "Dobryy vecher," Nixon began — "good evening" in Russian — before declaring that "as our two countries learn to work together, our people will be able to get to know one another better." He ended with "spasibo y do svidaniye," Russian for "thank you and goodbye." President Obama last Thursday, in a video message to the Iranian people, bid them "Nowruz Mubarak," Persian for Happy New Year, the first day of spring being the beginning of the Persian calendar. He even boasted that "Michelle helped mark Nowruz here at the White House" with "our own Haft Seen," the traditional table setting of mung bean, lentil sprouts, wheat germ, garlic, vinegar and other victuals. "Nowruzetan Pirooz," Obama said in closing, a wish for a new day. But in between the foreign language pleasantries the president was up to familiar tricks. In speaking "directly to the people and leaders of Iran," he might as well have been speaking to Solzhenitsyn and Stalin simultaneously, because the Iranian people and their rulers are about as far apart as that dissident and dictator were. In the first year of his presidency, Obama had a chance to support Iran's people as thousands risked their lives demonstrating in the streets against the Islamofascist regime. He chose silence because he wanted a bad nuclear deal with the mullahs that it seems he'll soon get. He cited "people in both our countries ... who oppose a diplomatic resolution" — thus outrageously comparing senators and congressmen of both parties who seek to protect the U.S. and free world from Iranian nuclear terrorism to jihadists chanting "Death to America." And he added: "Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei has issued a fatwa against the development of nuclear weapons, and President Rouhani has said that Iran would never develop a nuclear weapon." Well, then, what are we even negotiating if we believe that? And why have the U.S., Europe and the United Nations been imposing economic sanctions on Iran if we don't think Iran's leaders are deceiving us? Iranian negotiators' latest ploy is a demand that sanctions be lifted almost immediately, otherwise no deal. As exiled Iranian Shariah lawyer Daniel Akbari points out in a new book on marital-related violence in Islamic culture, "Honor Killing," in a theocratic Muslim state "goodness is defined by the goals of Islam, and moral rules exist merely to facilitate the achievement of the goals." All the Happy New Year love letters in the world to the oppressed Iranian people will not change that the U.S. is dealing with terrorist con men on the other side of the negotiating table.
