NBC Can’t Find Any Gaffes Made By

Posted: Dec 30, 2012

Talk about being in the tank. "Strangely missing from NBC's look back on the 2012 campaign were gaffes and controversial statements from the Obama-Biden campaign. Friday's Today featured a mini-blooper reel of GOP mishaps on the campaign trail, but made no mention of Democratic controversies. "In its lengthy string of highlights from the 2012 campaign, Today included Mitt Romney's infamous '47 percent' remarks along with Rep. Todd Akin's 'legitimate rape' meltdown. Today said nothing, though, of Biden's controversial 'chains' comments or Obama's 'you didn't build that' remark." Biden's "chains" remark was an appeal to race, - but, although he was called on it by

the GOP, who in the nature of campaigns tried to make it a mistake, the Obama campaign carried our black voters by a very wide margin. Just not a gaff, because, bottom line, our black citizens WANT and deserve the candidates to court their vote, and that's where the GOP failed.

As for Obama's statement, if anything, that was a GOP gaff. I copied the speech text below. The GOP did its best to twist it out of context, but too many people knew what he actually said, and the people who swallowed the twisted version were mainly hard righters who would never vote for Obama anyway.

It's hard to tell if the GOP's focus on this line, and the resultant discussion it wouldn't have had otherwise, helped get Obama's message out or confused it, but Obama himself committed no gaff. His message is just a good common sense reminder that we're all in this together and building a nation is a team effort.

Here you go--The whole thing for your own interpretation:

"We’ve already made a trillion dollars’ worth of cuts. We can make some more cuts in programs that don’t work, and make government work more efficiently…We can make another trillion or trillion-two, and what we then do is ask for the wealthy to pay a little bit more …

There are a lot of wealthy, successful Americans who agree with me, because they want to give something back. They know they didn’t -look, if you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own. You didn’t get there on your own. I’m always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart. There are a lot of smart people out there. It must be because I worked harder than everybody else. Let me tell you something – there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there. If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life.

Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges--If you’ve got a business you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet.

The point is, is that when we succeed, we succeed because of our individual initiative, but also because we do things together. There are some things, just like fighting fires, we don’t do on our own. I mean, imagine if everybody had their own fire service. That would be a hard way to organize fighting fires.

So we say to ourselves, ever since the founding of this country, you know what, there are some things we do better together. That’s how we funded the GI Bill. That’s how we created the middle class. That’s how we built the Golden Gate Bridge or the Hoover Dam. That’s how we invented the Internet. That’s how we sent a man to the moon. We rise or fall together as one nation and as one people, and that’s the reason I’m running for president – because I still believe in that idea. You’re not on your own, we’re in this together.”

I accidentally sent before finished. Obama's giant - gaff was, of course, his demeanor

at the Denver debate. HUGE.

BTW, about the white vote reaction to Biden's "chains" remark , white Dems just weren't offended at an appeal to blacks, of course, so no votes lost there, although people of all backgrounds probably felt some distaste at the phoniness of the exaggerated "y'all" delivery. I myself was wondering if his intense passion didn't mean he was half black himself or something. :)

the majority of the electorate found otherwise - sm

Thus, it would appear it is more of a problem for you than anyone else.

an error is not the same as a gaffe - sm

Similarly, flubbing the words to a song is not the same as being tone deaf. Sorry, but Romney's 47% remark and Todd Akin's splendiferous account of the female reproductive system represent WAY more than bloopers.

Obama's 57 states reply, then - was an error. Not a gaffe.

Either way, it was wrong. Picky, picky.

Either way, it meant nothing and he was reelected - handily. Let's keep to gaffs that matter

not tired little goofs from all four candidates, of which thousands could be produced.
Not THAT handily... at least 50 million Americans - wanted Obama out, me included.

He is one of the poorest leaders this country has ever seen -- a divider, never a uniter. His "Robin-Hood" style, unfortunately, is what won it for him. This country is no longer the prideful, self-reliant, and patriotic nation it once was... sad.
Electoral: 332 to 206. Popular: 51% to 47%. Handily. - That 47% thing cracks me up.

Ironic, dontcha think?

Yeah, that was the error. Obama himself - is the gaffe. nm

Americans Have Insurance But Can’t Afford To Use ItMar 13, 2015
Although more Americans have health insurance coverage, 25 percent of non-elderly Americans don’t have enough liquid assets to cover the deductible on their health insurance plan, according to a new report from the Kaiser Family Foundation.  The report finds that many consumers don’t have the cash on hand to cover the cost of a mid-range deductible or $1,200 for an individual or $2,400 per family. High deductible health plans require that consumers cover their health car ...

Citing Redalert Politics, CNBC.com compiled the following list of gaffes committed by Barack Obama in just the past two weeks: 1) President Obama referred to Israel’s concern over Iran’s march toward a nuclear program as “noise” and then called Israel one of the nation’s closest allies in the region. According to Kristen Silverberg, former U.S. Ambassador to the European Union, Obama’s commentary is unusual. “There has been a bi-partisan consensus for many years that the US a ...

We have a chance to work together both republicans and democrats and yet both sides are still bickering like elementary school children...including all of us on this board.  One side is never going to be 100% right all the time.  So how about we all open our minds a bit, grow up a little, and embrace our fellow Americans no matter whether they are democrat or republican, black, white, hispanic, etc.  We are all Americans and even though we don't agree on everything...we do ha ...

is that the very people screaming support for unions and complaining their rights are being taken away, etc.  What about the people who live in a forced unionism state and are forced to join a union?   Where are their rights?  Where are their choices?  Right-to-Work laws do not force employees out of unions but allows them to opt-out of union membership if they want to and does nothing to ban unions from the Right-to-Work states. While I'm considered "very attractive" (obviously, that's subjective) for my age, it is getting more and more difficult to find quality men to date.
