UPDATE: Inauguration Viewership Down Almost 50% From 2009; 20.5M Watch Swearing In UPDATE, 9:45 AM: President Obama’s second inauguration pulled in almost half the viewership that watched his 2009 swearing-in. Monday’s ceremony and celebrations drew 20.552 million viewers overall between 10 AM and 4:30 PM for a 7.1 rating, accord to Nielsen data released today. The January 20, 2009 inauguration had 37.793 million watching over almost the same time period — good for a 13.2 rating. Tell them you want cooperation, not obstruction. Let them know what you need. The president addressed far more than gay rights and climate control in his inaugural address. Perhaps you should listen to it.

Republican "obstruction" would have been a good thing there... not bad! You, like so many Americans (and the moochers wanting handouts as well), are still buying what Obama is selling, all to the detriment of our country. All of Obama's policies so far have hurt, not helped, the nation. Obama ACTS like he wants to help the middle class, when in reality, his policies hurt the middle class. Then, he distracts the country with his "other" priorities. He might as well be about 14 years old, but, of course, the liberal media calls him a genius. a horrible future? Yep, I voted for Obama. As for jobs, offshoring is killing and will continue to kill our economy. Obama proposed a tax on those companies doing this and an incentive for those who don't. The repubs refused to bring it up for a vote. The monetary incentive (tax wise) for companies has to change before the jobs will come back. It has to be better for them financially to keep jobs here before it will change. I believe Obama will push for this change before any repub would.

I was waiting to see if someone would answer the "how so" question, because I don't understand what makes this country more divided now than it has always been in the past. We are, by history, a divided country. I'm not sure how that's the current President's fault.

What I do see that is different is more people giving attention to the lunatic groups on each side which, before the explosion of social media, would have merely faded away into nonexistence in the past.

They didn't mind division before it meant rejection and - isolation--for them. Now it's a bad word. :)
