Real journalists I knew in the 80s would be having a GREAT time crossing the border and reporting gleefully how easy it is in an effort to show how we need to TIGHTEN the border.

Not today.

There are no real journalists anymore, just the heard blasting Trump at all costs.

crossing the bridge, we watched dozens of people wading across the Rio Grande and hopping the chain link fence in the U.S. A border agent said many of them come across and work, get paid cash, then go home every night. This was a daily thing for them. I am sure that still holds true for many of them. I think it's kind of old news and that is more why they don't report on it. Many people, especially we here in border states, know that a wall will not change the important stuff - like the drugs and criminals coming in - and think it is a waste of a huge amount of tax payer money to build it. I think money is better spent on more agents to patrol and look for and find the underground passages that have been there for decades that they use to get the drugs across.

the wall would be useless. I have no problem with Trump or any other president cracking down on the illegals, but I disagree with a huge amount of tax dollars spent on a wall. We do need more agents at the borders and other forms of technology. If you build a wall, they will use higher ladders or dig deeper tunnels.

I also don't like the affect on wildlife and other environmental issues of a wall. Animals don't know borders and cross between them for many reasons and this would definitely hurt them.

As some accuse the left of having open borders that simply is not true. I think they should come here legally also and don't like the drugs coming over the border but it's not going to stop because of a wall and those funds could be better used for things as mentioned above and in your post.

As far as those getting paid cash, folks really want to stop that then go after the folks hiring them.

Again, I am not for illegals being here but many of them are working under false social security numbers and are paying taxes but will receive no social security. Again, spend money to make the system more fail-safe so stuff like this doesn't happen.

There are so many ways to help this problem with those funds instead of a wall.

One more thing, when you stop the cheap labor used to pick crops, you can expect prices on fruits and vegetables to skyrocket because there are no Americans that will work for those wages.
