"That woman" - NK

won with 75-80% of the electorate each term. She's the highest-ranking female politician at the current time (subject to change in 2016), and I'm quite proud of her. She was one of the most powerful speakers in history. Perhaps John Boehner should take a page from her book since even the huge gavel he requested has had no effect on his unruly caucus.

And that's why I moved out of the area of where she is - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
Too many people who vote for that women (and "that woman" is the nicest thing I can call her right now). I saw how messed up things were and the people okay with it. If they want that kind of lifestyle and the things she does they can have it. I needed some sanity so got away from it real fast.

The unfortunate thing is she's making decisions that affect everyone in the country. Well sorry lady, I didn't elect you. Maybe the people who elect people the decisions should only affect them. Meanwhile she's spreading her diseased thinking throughout the country (BTW - me saying her diseased thinking is my point of view and since we are allowed to give our viewpoint here that's mine - and since it's about her and nobody here - I'm also allowed to write that). But her ideas are a disease and I'm hoping American can find a cure soon.
How are her ideas - a disease?
[ In Reply To ..]
I would really like to know. And "Maybe the people who elect people the decisions should only affect them"?

What about the 8 long years of Bush and what he did to this country?

The right always seem to feel that when someone is elected that does not agree with them they then do not have to follow the laws or even accept that person as legitimate.

Lots of us left wingers didn't like what happened during the Bush years but we don't use that argument because the majority rules and we accept that.

My first experience of this cognitive dissonance was when the local school refused to show President Obama's speech to school children. It was treated as socialist propaganda rather than what it was, simply a talk about working hard and doing well and you can be president one day too.

I don't understand why when a right winger gets in we all have to be patriotic and accept whatever they do, but once a liberal or even a moderate is in conservatives feel they don't have to go along with the majority.
First of all, I thought this post was about Pelosi (sm) - LM
[ In Reply To ..]
But I see you've made it about Bush and Obama. There was a school in my area that made the children chant a song to Obama, the Leader. Remember "mmmm, mmmm, mmmm, Barack Hussain Obama."? Cognitive dissonance you say? Yikes, now that gave me and a lot of other parents the creeps. I didn't live in the school district, just close by, but a lof of parents in that district complained - loudly. Now, back to Pelosi. How can a so-called leader tell the voters it's okay to be jobless, it gives you time to "follow your passion." Does anyone out of work who actually wants work like hearing that? They want to support their children - that's their passion. She strikes me as someone who is, somewhat off their rocker.
When she said that about following your passion - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
That made the hair stand up on the back of my neck. What a complete idiotic statement to say. I'm thinking, we all now you are an idiot and now you have proved it.

They are so desperate they are saying anything. The worst is there are some that will actually believe it. So do you think the bill payers they owe money to will give them electricity or cable for free and be happy for them because they can now "follow their passion".

oh my God she screams stupid on a whole new level (and since I'm talking about a politician and giving my opinion and not directing this toward any poster here I can say that because that is my opinion about a politician).

Maybe because she's a millionaire she doesn't have to worry about paying the bills but we do...."follow your passion" (ouch, just rolled my eyes so hard I saw my brain).
She did not say it was okay - to be jobless
[ In Reply To ..]
She was talking about how Obamacare means health care is separate to work so you don't have to stay in a job just to get health care. In this profession, we should certainly sympathize with that. Unfortunately, most MTSOs have grandfathered junk plans which I wish they would just stop offering.

The actual quote (not the oft repeated completely incorrect one) is this:

"It will be – it is so exciting because it is about wellness, it is about prevention, it is about technology, taking us to a different healthy place. It is about entrepreneurship. Already people are talking about not waiting until January to start a new business to be a photographer, to be a writer, to be self-employed, to start a business, to change jobs. No longer job locked. No longer job locked, but really following your passion, your talent, your aspirations, honoring the vows of our Founders of life, a healthier life, liberty, the liberty to pursue your happiness. So, we are very excited and proud of it and look forward to many more people enjoying the benefits of it."

She is talking about people starting businesses, not becoming unemployed. They want to support their children too, only maybe want the freedom to start a business or take another job without benefits which would be better for them. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this sentiment. I believe the hate is a real knee jerk reaction to this woman and I still don't get it.
You are making assumptions - Poster you replied to

If people vote for a bad politician those decisions that that bad politician makes should only affect them. People in Maine didn't vote for Pelosi, people in Florida, NC, AZ, MT, etc did not vote for Pelosi (or other politicans, just keeping it to Pelosi right now). Her complete idiocrisy and incompetency and socialist agenda should only affect the people that vote for her. To penalize a whole country because a few people made the wrong decisions (again no matter who gets voted) makes no sense. Did the whole country get to vote on Pelosi? No, only the in CA did, yet she makes decisions that affect everyone in the country. They should be the only ones subjected to the fall out of her insane decisions.

And the same holds true for - Boehner
[ In Reply To ..]
Because he will not call a vote on immigration reform, raising the minimum wage, gun control, stopping subsidies to oil companies and multinational corporations, even though the majority of the country supports these issues AND the majority of congress - even Republicans - we have to suffer.

I did not vote for him, yet he has huge control over the economic misery that has been visited on this country by selectively allowing virtually no bills to even come to the floor which would result in one job being created, one bridge getting fixed, one gun control law being passed.

To penalize the whole country because the Republicans in Congress are afraid of the tea party makes no sense.

Did the whole country get to vote on Boehner and his tea party masters? No, only Ohioans and then he was voted Speaker by his party (just as Pelosi was).

Ohio ARE the ones subjected to his decisions, but so are we all. I know how his decision to keep the congress obstructionist and unproductive have affected my life, and it is not good. What did Nancy Pelosi do that was so much worse?
The same holds true for every politician - Poster you replied to

[ In Reply To ..]
Does not explain why Pelosi is considered worse than Boehner, except maybe you like Boehner's ideas and way of doing things better.
She's deceitful and a saccharine sweet phony. - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
One example is that she's all for unions in her public persona and even accepted awards from the UFW, but she and her millionaire husband own a vineyard in Napa and hire only nonunion workers and sell their grapes to only nonunion wineries.

On another note, have you any idea what she pays for office rent in SF? Her castle costs $18,736 per month. Is that really necessary? Who do you think is footing that bill? I don't know what her DC palace costs. I think I'm afraid to know.

Do you want to hear more? Believe me, think twice before you answer that because there is much, much more. It's sickening. And her constituents are some of the lowest of the low and strung out on drugs. What does that tell you of her voting bloc?
Don't worry. TP is on it's way down. Boehner (too late) is seeing what a disaster they - have made

It may be too late for much of the harm they've already done (gov shutdown, etc.), but I think he's on his way to dismantling them or whatever in his power he can do to make a statement of his disdain and disrespect for them.

You are correct. The TP is not going anywhere. - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Which of course begs 2 different arguments.

1. TP isn't going anywhere because the GOP is finally heading toward a good place where the TP is not being granted undue power. They have finally realized the destruction it has caused their party.

2. TP isn't going anywhere because they will for the foreseeable future be represented thanks to gerrymandering (legal and works for both sides--see link). However, they are still not going anywhere (see #1).
The shutdown wasn't caused by the TP - Truthhurts
[ In Reply To ..]
It was caused by the stubborness of Obama and his cohorts to not want to work at cutting spending. Let's not forget that the sequester was Obama's idea and because he wouldn't work with Congress, the sequester automatically kicked in.

BTW, the shutdown did not hurt any ESSENTIAL government programs. It only hurt the nonessential workers and public places people liked to go sightseeing. IOW, it was a spiteful shutdown by the Democrats. The Democrats (mostly Obama) tried to scare people by stating it would affect Veterans, Medicare, Medicaid, and SS payments, which are ESSENTIAL programs and not at all affected, mostly because they are automatic.

The TP is not going anywhere. I think they are getting stronger as we get closer to the elections with all these "phony" (Obama's words, not mine) scandals and Independents and, yes, even some die hard Democrats are jumping ship because of them. People want a fair and balanced constitutional agenda and don't like the way the power grab is happening, both in Congress (King Reid) and the President, plus people are not liking the gestapo type politics happening in NY and feel it may be coming to a state of theirs unless the freedoms we all once enjoyed are gone forever.
The only group that does not correctly blame Cruz and TP for the shutdown is the - extreme right
[ In Reply To ..]
and it cost the economy 24 billion dollars. Essential or nonessential workers aside. The economy was impacted. Voters will hear that over and over in every campaign of which the TP has a candidate.

But "some fell for it" - SM
[ In Reply To ..]
No, it didn't kill us. America has faced many adversities that didn't kill us, but those who did suffer at the expense of the extreme right wing trying to make a point that was futile in the first place might be not so quick to shake it off.

It's interesting that the statement was made, "some fell for it," when incorrectly characterizing that Obama somehow crafted the shutdown in the post I responded to.

Every responsible news media reported the 24 billion dollar loss to our economy. Whatever news source that blamed Obama, and echoed in the post I responded to, seemingly did not report that very important fact... and I'm blamed for falling for something. Interesting and very telling.

"Because he will not call a vote on immigration reform, raising the minimum wage, gun control, stopping subsidies to oil companies and multinational corporations..."

because:
1. Immigration reform should not be done UNTIL they secure the borders, or else this same thing will come up again in another 15 years. They need to follow the laws already on the books.
2. Raising the minimum wage. Most minimum wage jobs are in the service sector for high school students. Even in my depressed, jobless area, companies are paying $10/hr. or more. Businesses appreciate and pay their workers what they can afford. The federal government should not be sticking their nose in this at all, especially if it would affect small businesses that don't even bring in millions per year.
3. Gun control is not necessary. Let's just follow the laws that are on the books now. More gun control laws will only hurt law-abiding citizens but not your corner drug dealers/sex traders/pimps, burglars, chicken-ship home invasion perps, robbers, and murderers because they'll still have guns.
4. Oil subsidies. They've been trying in the House to stop this for a few years now, but it gets nowhere. In fact, there is one in committee now (H.R. 609). When it comes up for debate and discussion is anyone's guess....but here's a little info for you on the "subsidies":

The truth is that the oil and gas industry receives the same kinds of tax treatments that every other manufacturing or extractive industry receives in the federal tax code. There is nothing uncommon or out of the mainstream of tax treatments about any of the provisions that have been repeatedly proposed for repeal.

So how did all of this misinformation get started? It all began in 2009. Within days of being sworn in as the nation’s 44th President, Barack Obama ordered his staff to scour the tax code for any provision that was relevant to the oil and gas industry, and promptly began proposing them for repeal. The oil and gas industry has always been an easy target for political demagoguery, and that dynamic has played out repeatedly and consistently in this Administration.

Unfortunately, most media outlets and reporters have chosen to basically repeat the Administration’s mantra that these tax treatments – several of which have been in the tax code for almost a century – are somehow unique, specific to the oil and gas industry, and are “subsidies” for “big oil”. A great example of just how inaccurate this depiction is applies to Percentage Depletion, which has been a feature of the tax code since 1913, meaning it will be a full century old this year.

Basically, Percentage Depletion is the oil and gas industry’s version of a depreciation deduction for its main asset, which is the oil and natural gas in the ground, commonly known as its reserves. Every industry of any kind is allowed a depreciation deduction on its assets under the U.S. Tax Code, but, far from being a “subsidy” for “big oil”, this tax treatment was in fact repealed for all integrated oil companies, i.e., ExxonMobil, Shell, BP, etc., in 1975, and is today available only to independent producers and royalty owners. So repeal of this extremely long-standing, completely common tax treatment would have no effect on “big oil” at all, and would in fact hit small producers and royalty owners harder than anyone else.

"If they want that kind of lifestyle..." Can you explain what that means? - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
The poor AIDS victims thread comes to mind, but if you are alluding to some other lifestyle that is prevalent in San Fran, I apologize.
I didn't read that thread so, no I'm not talking about that - Mrs. Tingles - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
I didn't mention AIDS. I didn't mention SF. Don't know what kind of lifestyle you think SF has. There are people of all walks of life and many cultures. They have a wonderful performing arts culture, museums and music and there is the wharf that's a lot of fun to go to. Best crab I've ever had and of course Ghiradelli chocolate (mmmmmm).

What I said was "I saw how messed up things were and the people okay with it. If they want that kind of lifestyle and the things she does they can have it. I needed some sanity so got away from it real fast". That means just that. I don't agree with the politics of Pelosi. I think she is insane and one of the most crooked politicians. She is an elitist trying to pass bills that are bad for the country with her leftist agenda and since there were people there okay with that, those are not the kind of people I wanted to live around. She is for spend, spend, spend, spend, spend, spend with no end in sight (as long as its things the lefts are pushing). Her viewpoints on the debt, taxes, abortion, health care, the pipeline and the list goes on and on. So if the people there want that kind of lifestyle (socialist) that's not the kind of people I want to be around. I thought my post was pretty specific.

Why? What did you think I meant?
I don't think I was responding to - your post(?)
[ In Reply To ..]
Unless you didn't use your moniker?

But anyhow...

Oftentimes, since there is a large gay population in SF, "that lifestyle" is sometimes used as a buzz word in a derogatory way. Things in print oftentimes don't translate well to what one really means, so I apologize that I misunderstood whomever it was who made the lifestyle remark.

PS I did edit what I posted earlier here.
It's not a crime to not use a moniker or a requirement that we do use one - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Since I responded back to you referring to my post why wouldn't you think that was my post. Especially when I stated "I didn't state". That would be my first clue that it was my post. Would be kind of silly to post "I didn't state" if it was someone else's post. LOL

But not a problem. Was just wondering what you thought I was talking about. San Francisco is just like any other large city. They've got a lot of great cultures and arts and food/wine and festivals. I just didn't agree with the political culture of the people that live there. They want it and what the crooked politicians have to offer then they can have it. Not me. I actually moved to another state where we have a democrat governor and he's a decent person (one of the few dems that are). He seems to care about the people, but now it's coming out that he lied about not knowing about the whole health care debacle they paid someone over $300M for yet not one person has been able to sign up. So just don't know.

No problems about the lifestyle thing. San Francisco is a great city to visit I just didn't like living there.
Sorry. I didn't know if it was you or not, that's why I put the question mark. - I just wasn't sure

The majority and minority party members - select their leaders
[ In Reply To ..]
It's called government, and this is how it works. I didn't elect Eric Cantor, but his party selected him as the majority leader.

"The majority party members and the minority party members meet separately to select their leaders. Third parties rarely have had enough members to elect their own leadership, and independents will generally join one of the larger party organizations to receive committee assignments. A party caucus or conference is the name given to a meeting of or organization of all party members in the House. During these meetings, party members discuss matters of concern."

I can never understand the venom - the right has for Pelosi

[ In Reply To ..]
What I see is nothing more than a well presented, hard working, capable woman. Why is that so threatening?

They seem to hate her more than Hillary Clinton for some reason and if you ask why they are incredulous you can't see it.

Well, I don't see it, and I wonder if anyone can explain it without linking to Fox News or Daily Caller or one of those kinds of things which also assume you are "in the know" with why and they don't have to explain it.

[ In Reply To ..]
It is not a matter of just liking or disliking. It's know what kind of a person she is. We didn't just wake up one morning and say gee I think I'll hate Pelosi today. This is not an emotion, it's knowing how her decisions are affecting everyone.

I lived in her district. I know about Pelosi and what she has done in our area. I guess anyone with money can dress in the finest of attire and live in the best mansions and look "well presented" (nothing wrong with that), but all the best suits doesn't change a person. They are still the same type of person no matter what they wear. Also there are a lots of people are "hard working", but again its what you do while you are working. Pelousy is an elitist snob. She doesn't care about the people in her district (unless it's voting time, just like Hillary). She thinks she is/knows better than us (those little peons). She thinks everyone is stupid and that we don't know how to read or understand the issues she is for. She's a liar and a two face. She gets caught in her lies and they tell her right to her face you are lying and she just talks on like nobody said anything. She is a progressive elitist trying to pass her communist agenda and bad ideas.

She has no shame, no humanity and no common sense. Remember "we have to vote on it to find out what's in it". Many of us were thinking, no, this is not Lets Make a Deal, I'll take what's behind door #2. The bill affected all Americans (except politicians of course. They exempt themselves from any of the sewerage they are dumping on us, because after all they are just so special).

Crooked is putting it mildly. Someone once wrote this which sums it up right "I cannot imagine what life forms live in her district. Any speculation about how I might protect myself (if I lived there) would probably border on lewd, violent or both".
