In other words, the hyperbolic over-reaching inaccurate snipe.
Let us get one thing straight. If John Edwards has IN FACT guilty of (as opposed to being suspected of) breaking the law, then it will be up to the courts as to whether or not he indicted, which is as it should be. Should that be the case, then YES, by all means, he should be indicted.
Now, I would like to know if you are equally as concerned about the developing story regarding legal concerns (voiced BY HIS OWN ATTORNEYS) surrounding Newt Gingrich? If I were one of his supporters, I would think long and hard before sending my hard-earned bucks to support his explorations. His record on misuse of all sorts of funds, including taxpayer money, makes me feel we are about to witness a crime in progress.
Legal Concerns Clouded Newt Gingrich Event
By Jeanne Cummings
Newt Gingrich's aborted presidential campaign announcement was prompted by concerns from his legal team that he had not fully divested from his various outside income streams to clear the way for his candidacy, sources told POLITICO.
Among the issues on the table: Gingrich's contract with Fox News, which the network on Wednesday abruptly announced would be suspended for 60 days.
The former House speaker's complex financing network, however, raised both big and small legal questions.
For instance, some campaign finance experts said Gingrichs mode of transportation to the Georgia meetings at which he was expected to make his announcement on Thursday could have raised thorny legal questions.
If he was flying in a corporate jet, the transportation costs would have been considered an in-kind contribution to a campaign that didn't yet exist.
If the plane was paid for by Gingrich's think-tank, American Solutions for Winning the Future, which was the official sponsor of the Georgia event and is considered a charity under tax law, the costs could violate Internal Revenue Service regulations.
Gingrich's allies said the former House speaker still intends to run and that he will make the announcement when all of the legal issues have been resolved.
However, the messy start to his presidential launch could dog him in the coming weeks since his presidential intentions are now apparent.
"If he utters a word now that smacks of being a presidential candidate, he's got a problem," said one campaign finance attorney.
Campaign finance regulations allow prospective candidates to raise money to cover the costs of "testing the waters," which include lining up early support and raising enough money to pay for travel related to making an assessment of the potential strength of a candidacy.
However, candidates operating in that gray area can't openly advocate for their election.
Reporters gearing up to cover Gingrich's Georgia appearance were led to believe that in addition to the announcement of an exploratory committee, the former congressman would also receive his first endorsement from newly-elected Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal.
"It ain't complicated stuff," said one attorney. "Once you start an exploratory committee, you can't be taking corporate jets or doing Fox News."
The fact is that he was the Dem nominee for VP in 2004 and ran as a candidate for the presidential nomination in 2004 and 2008. Since he didn't win, does that mean you only hold the winners to a higher standard?
If the story was about Romney (candidate for a presidential nomination who lost) or Palin (VP nominee who lost), are you telling me that it wouldn't be a big deal?
Just imagine if the story was about Palin having an affair and a baby out of wedlock and allegedly misappropriating campaign funds with a possible indictment coming down soon. Would it be a political slam when the voters talk about it? Not likely. The leftists would be euphoric and absolutely unrelenting.
Sorry, it works both ways. Well, it's supposed to work both ways, but conservatives are held to a higher standard.
RULE 12: Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it." Cut off the support network and isolate the target from sympathy. Go after people and not institutions; people hurt faster than institutions. (This is cruel, but very effective. Direct, personalized criticism and ridicule works.)
I think an appropriate response would be that it only becomes a big deal (at least as big as you ae trying to make it) AFTER he is indicted and/or found guilty. The investigation is winding down and the results will be in soon. In the meantime, try to contain your glee.
BTW, how would you answer that question of national disgrace becoming party pick? Just curious.

I'm not sure why you insist on making this a Newt-bashing thread. I didn't realize he announced he's running. Where did you hear that? Not to worry, though. There will be plenty of time for you to try and destroy Newt if he does announce he is going to run. I won't waste my time on the DailyKos talking points, but in the meantime, you can contain YOUR glee until he's a candidate, K?
He is too slick to announce. He is too busy bypassing - campaign finance scrutiny. sm

Have your fogotten CPAC? Just in case you have, see link below. It brings up some nice colored glossy 8 x 10s of their picks. Of the 3, Newt is the only one brave enough even come close to testing those waters.
Look, if he can explore the possibility, so can I. Its a free country where free speech is protected. If Westboro can compound pain and grief in the middle of a family funeral of a fallen soldier, I can post a few well established facts about the Newster, can't I? BTW, He can self destruct all on his lonesome. He needs no help from me.
I have no glee to contain, but I do find it satisfying to introduce irrefutable evidence of GOP hypocrisy when it rears its ugly head and expects to go unchallenged. You are smart though not to waste your time trying to defend the indefensible, but if it were me, I sure would be asking myself, is this the best we can do? For all that bravado about 2012, you do realize you will have to come up with a candidate first, right? After all, time flies and you only have 613 days to find one in that great big pool of folks we see running in the opposite direction and declaring how undefeatable Obama is.

The fact that some people have been jumping through hoops to point out perceived hypocrisy on this board as of late when it suits their needs... making this post more than relevant even though the tables are turned... is besides the point. It seems that these posts have prompted the advertisers to place a key-word banner ad for "Free Newt," where you can sign up for free weekly e-mails from Newt... the thought of which made me dry heave a little. Please be considerate of others in the future. TIA.

(as much as he can lay his hands on) without the scrutiny of campaign finance disclosure rules as he establishes an exciting new website to explore his options. To run or not to run? That is the question.
This despite the fact that he is the only Speaker of the House in the history of the county to be disciplined for ethic violations. Then there was that nasty internal party power struggle between Newt and John Boehner, Dick Armey, Bill Paxton and Tom DeLay (a convicted felon out on bail, appealing his case after being sentenced to 3 years plus 10 years probation after being found guilty of money laudering and consipiracy). Those four hatched a coup, the plan being to issue Newt an ultimatum to resign versus facing a vote for his ouster. The only thing that saved him from this fate is when Armey defected (once he learned HE would not be the new speaker) and told Newt about the plan. He resigned after GOP 1998 election losses, stating he was leaving the House because he feared he his magnificence would overshadow his replacement as speaker. This added gigantic ego to polarizing figure to his in the accomplishments section of his resume.
He wrote 22 rubber checks during the House Banking scandal around 1992 if memory serves. He kept changing his story during that murky Murdoch book scandal in 1995, as opposed to an earlier book scandal in 1984. Ever hear of GOPOAC? Redirecting tax-subsidized funds for his own personal political gain, such as charity monies intended for poor inner city children? The college course he taught entitled Renewing American Civilization and what he REALLY did during that class time?
Then there is that disastrous marriage record. His first marriage was to his high school geometry teacher. Some speculate that this was one of a number of successful maneuvers he use to dodge the Viet Nam draft (he never served in the military). They had 2 kids. He left her after having an affair with Mariane Ginther. He visited her while she was in the hospital recovering from cancer surgery to hammer out the details of the divorce and gt her signature. What a guy, what a guy. (Trying to catch my breath). After their divorce, his first wife had to take him to court to get him pay up. Her utilities were about to be cut off.
While married to Ginther, in an act of highest hypocrisy, he had an affair with a House of Representatives staffer 23 years younger, smack dab in the middle of the Lewinsky scandal, all the while denouncing the behavior and taking the higher road of self-righteousness. Ultimately, he divorced his wife and married the staffer, Callista Bisek, who would become our First Lady, should he be elected, assuming that he does not have another affair, get someone pregnant on the side or WHATEVER.
