The subject of abortion is and always will be a touchy subject. We are never going to agree - but as a transcriptionist and prolife, when I have to transcribe a 20+ week abortion and they are talking about making sure all the "limbs" are present - I'm sorry - but it makes me want to throw up. I usually can justify it in my mind because the baby is going to be born without a brain, etc., but I know that isn't the case in the vast majority of "prochoice" abortions after 20 weeks.
The issue with Texas abortion clinics - having to drive 150 miles one way to get to one - this is Texas, for crying out loud - you have to drive a long ways to get anywhere in Texas - it's no different than most rural states - ask these same people how far they will drive for a concert and they won't complain about that. I know - we are talking "poor" people here - or are we?
As I said, I am Pro-Life - my children are adopted - thank you God that their mothers chose life. I have 2 adopted grandchildren and 2 adopted nieces - again, thank you to those birth moms - there are billions of dollars (guessing here) spent on women in the US trying to get pregnant - most if not all of them would be happy to give that money to a birth mom so she could have a healthy pregnancy and adopt her baby. Why don't more moms give up their babies? I don't know - I wish I knew - when I hear someone say "I just can't give my baby to someone I don't know - I'll have an abortion instead....." really?
The subject of abortion is not going to go away - I don't want to stop people from having them - I just don't want to be a part of it - paying for it - or having some family sue the abortion clinic because their daughter had complications and the doctor didn't have privileges at a hospital (why not?).
Done venting
Thank you for that perspective - I am Pro-Choice

But love it when people want to adopt. I wish adoption options were made easier. I wish there were not such a stigma to being pregnant in the "wrong" situation. If we could de-moralize the pregnancy issues, I think more would have the child and let biology take its course, provide the parents who want to be parents with a child and life could go on. I don't believe abortion is murder, I believe it is prevention of developing into a life.
But, as long as the people entrench this issue with opposing sex ed, birth control (and obviously abortion), morality dances for their girls with their daddies, and purity education, there will be people skulking away to have abortions, because God forbid they got "caught" doing something unapproved. Mind you, it doesn't mean they aren't doing it, they just can't get caught. If people were not so judgmental about the biology of sex and its byproduct (baby), I think more babies would be allowed to develop. And, if that is a religious or moral endpoint for anybody (that abortion is murder), well, then less murders will happen.
I counsel my child as to the emotional and responsibility aspects of participating in sexual activity, but, I am here to tell you with a 14-year-old boy (just out of Christian school, first year in public school) it has been an eye-opener FOR HIM! He says everyone is talking about sex and/or talking about having had sex (whether true or not). For the most part he finds them ??disgusting??, but I can tell he is curious...so we talk....but I can't help but think about those kids that don't talk to their moms and it all just happens and sometimes things happen they don't want, like a baby. And, I am sure at 14-18 becoming pregnant probably seems like the end of the world for many, including their parents.
BTW, I say he thinks it disgusting because there seems to be a recurrent theme of having "sex" in the bathroom. I can't help but think this must be a misinterpretation of what that is or someone mouthing off, let's hope anyway. He hasn't actually seen it, he just hears people talking.
I understand that it is a long way to a lot of things in Texas, but there is no reason to shut down clinics. The procedure is legal in this country and the fine people of the state of Texas are trying to subvert the law by restricting these services.
Our state has just made it more restrictive with a 72 hour wait period. So, you already travelled 150 miles, on no money, and you have little money for the procedure, now you have to travel back and forth or find somewhere to stay.
In our town there is a Planned Parenthood with a Christian adoption planning center across the street. The Christians picket in front of Planned Parenthood. Funny thing is, they haven't been able to perform abortions for going on over a year, because they don't have a doctor. All these people are doing is making it uncomfortable for teens and others (one high school is about a block away) from getting exams, info and birth control!
Yeah, abortion is legal, but soon, if this keeps going this way, it might as well not be. There will be a black market emerging with all of these restrictions. It is simple supply and demand.
The after 20 weeks, I have no answer for. I don't think I would like that either and I don't really think it should be legal, other than in extreme life-threatening cases.
Thank you for your post - ProLife

But I can't help but think that you do not live in the real world. Your son coming from a Christian school is now entering the "real world" and no, I don't like it either....but to think there is a "stigma" attached to getting pregnant - I don't agree - it is now a badge of honor to be having sex at younger and younger ages - and I know what I am talking about - I raised 3 daughters and it was a struggle - two not so much, but one was a constant battle to help her keep her head on straight because of the constant barrage of friends, television, movies, music. The reason for abortions is not because they are ashamed of getting pregnant - it is because it is their form of birth control -
With all due respect SM - KC

I have two daughters and I know of more than one acquaintance of both of them who asked their parents to be put on birth control, parents said "no," and girl ends up pregnant. I know abortion brings up strong emotions in people, but to imply that people would rather go for a scary surgical procedure as their preferred form of birth control rather than the many other forms, and that there's no shame in pregnancy these days, that's just way too general to apply in the "real world." There may not be the shame there used to be years ago, but trust me; I don't know of a single girl (while my girls were in school) who got pregnant and was happy or proud about it. And I know A LOT. They both had very "productive" classmates, unfortunately.
I do agree about the 20 weeks issue - only in extreme cases.
Wow, could be...I am drawing from my own - youth and his attitude--so far

That will truly make me sick if that is the case.
They will be hard-pressed to make it their form of birth control here...they're going to have to drive 130 miles or so, if that is how they are going to do it!
Don't you think there is still a stigma amongst the parents and older set on the younger set when pregnancy occurs? Please, don't tell me they are proud of it too and flaunting it...
