I don't know about 'Global Warming' but I totally believe in 'Global Change'

Posted: Mar 12, 2011

It doesn't matter to me how or why, but weather where I live has been dramatically different. We've never had ice storms this vicious. We've had snow and ice and cold, but not like this. I believe things are changing. I am not political or religious about it. I don't care why or how, but it has changed.

;

It is not something to believe in, which - is where

[ In Reply To ..]
a lot of needless debate comes in. There are parts of the world that have melted, that need to be frozen. A guy in the Alps can no longer lead his glacier tours because they've melted. Polar bears are now endangered due to loss of habitat. The heating is also exponential meaning the heat is generating heat which we really can't do too much about except adjust. Species are disappearing. Without the ice at the poles, cold air will not sink and warm air push up, which is what makes weather "move". Most heated air means more moisture, so more serious rainstorms, snow storms, shorter frozen ground (bad for plants, gardens).

Prove to me that everything you described... - has not happened before

[ In Reply To ..]
(and will not happen again, that it is a cycle that the earth goes through....prove to me that that is NOT the case, and you will HAVE a case. Species have died out throughout history and will continue to die out, that is the way nature works, with or without \"global warming.\" What this is right now is a huge cash cow for people like that goofy Al Gore. Climatologists are split on it. There is no \"concensus\" since the previous \"concensus\" was proven to have \"cooked the books\" on the statistics that they said proved their theory.

Not the OP but prove to me when pouring contaminants into the air was ever healthy - and then we will talk

[ In Reply To ..]
Personally, I prefer to drink water that is pure and clean. I much prefer air that hasn't been contaminated. I don't care what or when it was contaminated, I prefer clean air and water. No politics with my opinion, just facts.
OK....we are in financial dire straits and need - to cut somewhere.
[ In Reply To ..]
if you think the EPA should be funded, then state where else you would like to see cuts made. The bottom line is we cannot maintain the status quo. We have to make cuts somewhere. An organization that wanted to tax farmers for cows and pigs belching and passing as from the other end to control methane...are you kidding me??? What a TOTAL waste of money to get the studies to even suggest such a thing and going through all kinds of legal machinations to get the Supreme Court to rule that cows and pigs belching and passing gas from the other end contribute to air pollution. It never went anywhere, of course, but that did not stop them spending millions of dollars on it. Just because they cut some programs doesn't mean the EPA has to go away. ANd let's face it...even if some things are harmful, you can't EVER stop it. They couldn't stop the cows and pigs from releasing methane from both ends so they just decided to try to tax people. Should we stop raising ANY kind of domestic anmial...? And what about people? They belch and...well, you get the picture.
I would have the rich pay their share of taxes for a starter - then arts and discretionary expense but not food a
[ In Reply To ..]
I would not cut food, shelter, clean air or water. I would cut out tax shelters and subsidies. I would ask a question, would this tax loophole cause this taxpayer to go hungry or be homeless? If not, let the tax stand until we can have a tax system that is more fair to everyone where there are no tax loopholes.
This was a thread about global warming and - the EPA....
[ In Reply To ..]
what tax are you talking about? The one the EPA wanted levied against people who owned cows and pigs??? Seriously???? That tax was never put into place because it didn't pass the smell test (pun intended). My suggestion was if the global warming people and environmental people want the EPA to be continued, then cuts need to be made somewhere else to fund it. Perhaps audit the welfare rolls and get everyone OFF it who is mentally or physically able to work. That would save a ton of money. Why not do that instead of adding more burden on ANY taxpayer? Basically you want the rich to pay more than their fair share so you have to pay less of your fair share? You need to stop blaming the rich and blame whoever made the tax law (that would be politicians) because you and I both know that any tax break you could get you would take it...right? And believe me, that would not change if you won the lottery. The first thing you would do is hire a fiancial advisor so you could keep every dime possible.

At least let's be HONEST about this. lol.
Yes - it does sound ridiculous when the - proposed tax is
[ In Reply To ..]
is described as one levied on "people who own cows and pigs." That makes it sound like anyone, even with a couple of livestock. That tax was to be levied against agribiz operations that have huge headcounts, like Smithfield, who can have anywhere from 500k to 1 million heads. The pollution (air, water, soil) is proven in surrounding areas.

The welfare suggestions are also off the mark. "Welfare" and it depends on your definition, is a tiny portion of the budget. Unfortunately, the way welfare is set up, depending on the state or county, it can be very difficult to get on it and if you do, get off it. It has ridiculous requirements (depending on state), like giving up your car if you own one, which is counterproductive to getting off welfare.

The problem with those on SSDI who are mentally or physically disabled pertains to homeless people. Many get a check each month, anywhere from a couple hundred to up to $900 (again, state). This money generally ends up lost, stolen or straid. Can't even say it is spent on alcohol because where there are homeless, there is Camo, the 99 cent liters with high Etoh content. Only takes 1 or 2 to knock out a homeless person. Homeless people I worked with that were alcoholics typically spent about $15 week on booze. Ditto drugs. It's the white collar people that spend a bigger proportion of their "pay" on quality drugs and booze.

Yes, agreed - ConcernedMT

This planet has a carrying capacity for only so many humans. It is overtaxed now. With all those humans comes all our pollution, especially in third world countries. There is no cosmic garbage truck coming to carry away all the waste and toxins we produce. They are going to disrupt the ecosystems and the climate more and more...which will eventually disrupt human activities on this planet. Not so much for the over-40 crowd, but for the younger generation and children being born now. I live in a rural area and our groundwater is severely polluted with pesticides and fertilizer residuals. The sad part of that is that contamination of clean water has become accepted, along with pollution of the ocean and the air.

I am very worried about the future of this planet for my grandchildren and what kind of legacy we are leaving them.

Global Warming...or NotMay 10, 2011
I don't know about the rest of you, but the weather we have been having in our state is unusual. It has been for several years, huge ice storms and blizzards when we never had a blizzard before as far as I know, and ice storms were rare. Now we have middle-of-the-summer temperatures, and absolutely no rain. I've never thought about 'Global Warming' as defined politically, but I definitely, without a doubt, believe in 'Global Weather Changes' no matter what the caus ...
