Global warming is a fact, proclaims BO.

Oh, really?;
yes, it is a fact - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
The article has nothing to do with controverting that fact, nor does it have anything to do with Barack Obama.
I'm just a dumb lib, but how can something that supposedly doesn't exist - slow down?
[ In Reply To ..]
Wouldn't global warming have to be a fact in order for it to speed up or slow down?

"What about the United States?
The year 2012 was the warmest on record for the contiguous United States, according to the National Climatic Data Center (NCDC). As shown in the graph at right, 2012 was substantially warmer—a full degree Fahrenheit (0.6°C)—than any other year since national records began in 1895. The U.S. warming rate of about 1.3°F (0.72°C) per century (red line in the graph at bottom right) is roughly comparable to the global rate of warming (see above).
Although the U.S. racked up several cooler years from 2008 to 2010, the decade as a whole (2000–2009) was the nation's warmest on record, with an average temperature of 54.0°F. In contrast, the 1990s averaged 53.6°F, and the 1930s averaged 53.4°F."

This has been the coldest winter here in a long time with temps -30 degrees and not even getting above zero during the day. Reminds me of the song "Oh, Susanna-- the sun's so hot I froze to death". Yeah, it's global warming all right.
You would think, right? - however
[ In Reply To ..]
Extreme weather of all kinds, cold, rain, drought, etc. are all direct results of climate change. There are abundant sources about this, but here's one link that explains it.
Climate change, yes, but - Old and Tired MT
[ In Reply To ..]
The earth has gone through many cycles of climate change and not necessarily due to modern "global warming". There have been periods of warming, yes, but also ice ages. I don't buy the propaganda that we have just recently caused it. It has been going on for millions of years.
Slate is propaganda - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
You can pick and choose what you want to read, but Slate is liberal backed, hence will not be reporting facts, but rather the liberals viewpoints.
I've been reading from different scientific studies. Yes, it is propaganda.
you may dislike Slate, - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
but they are simply reporting the results of a study performed by a Kentucky-born geologist who holds a PhD in geochemistry from MIT.
Most graphs reflect a disproportionate increase since the - 1980s and
[ In Reply To ..]
they reflect global warming trends that directly coincide with the rise of industrialism.
I don't know what we have to lose anyhow by exploring cleaner energy, renewable energy, etc. Natural resources eventually will be depleted. That's for sure not propaganda. Even if one doesn't believe scientific proof that the earth is warming up, there is still plenty of other motivation to find better forms of energy.
IMHO its common sense that "we" have just - recently caused it,
[ In Reply To ..]
recent being the last 100 years of mankind's effect on the climate/environment.
So, I don't really need tons of scientific studies (which exist) to prove the point, I can rely just on my own good common sense. The LAST thing I am willing to embrace though is denial. So different parties can show different scenarios of how global warming will manifest, but there's no doubt we are experiencing it.
My good ol common sense disagrees with your common sense - It just does not make sense
[ In Reply To ..]
to say that we have just recently caused it. Especially when the earth is not in a warming phase, it is in a cooling phase.
Especially when Algore stands to make billions from selling a bogus piece of paper to say, okay now you can polute.
I'm not in denial that the world is going through some climate changes, however my good ol common sense tells me the earths heating and cooling periods were not just caused by Americans driving their cars to work. That to me just does not make sense. Especially when they claim this was happening before cars and before manufactoring, and why is it only Americans have contributed to this. Never any of the other countries. Something just stinks (probably all that hot air coming out of Algores mouth).
that's okay, here's what science says - (another poster) sm
[ In Reply To ..]
The earth is not in a cooling phase; the weather has been cold in some places, though.
The earth is in a warming phase; analysis of the data demonstrates this to be anthropogenic.
I'm not aware of any scientific analysis that concludes that "only Americans have contributed to this."
That's okay, I've read the opposite from what scientists say - I guess it's all a matter of
[ In Reply To ..]
what you prefer to believe. I just happen to find more credible evidence from scientists that the earth is in a cooling phase.
Also there is much more to it than just what humans contribute.
I guess when someone manipulates the data or just comes out with his convenient untruth it's hard to believe him or his bandwagon.
I usually just go directly to the sources - the people who have studied this for years and don't have a vested interest in it and their facts are more believable, so I'll just have to say we disagree on this subject.
Have you found a "scientist" to state that supplies of coal and oil - are infinite?
[ In Reply To ..]
Someone can be as thick as they want when it comes to believing in not only climate change but man's contribution to it (and this argument always seems to hint to an issue they have with Al Gore), but there's really no denying that oil and coal will eventually run out. Is there any concern here for future generations? What will they do? Not being concerned is just plain selfish.
I'm sure you have read the opposite - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
There are at least 24 scientists out there who would agree with you. I have gone directly to the sources. No matter. I hope your belief that the data are manipulated keeps you warm and dry.
there is no credible evidence from scientists - that the earth is in a cooling phase
[ In Reply To ..]

It is propaganda - Old and Tired MT
[ In Reply To ..]
How many renowned scientists have already disputed it? It is simply a way to cut the production of oil, coal, any anything else that doesn't fit into their "green agenda", which of course, all their "buddies" have invested in. If they had their way, we'd all be living in caves, but then PETA would be upset because we'd be wearing animal skins, and of course to heat ourselves, we would have to use wood, which of course would also be a no-no. It gets more ridiculous every day. I am sick of the feds telling us what do, what to eat, what to drive, what kind of light bulbs to use, ad nauseam.
Yeah... that light bulb thing is a real life changer. I haven't been the same - in months. Darn feds!
[ In Reply To ..]
Where's Michele Bachmann when you need her?
As for the "green agenda," I care enough about the generations to come to try to find a new energy source not only because of climate change, but the sources we are using now WILL RUN OUT. It's common sense.
Did - you
[ In Reply To ..]
ever stop to think that the oil and coal producers could be using their propaganda to protect their interests? Do you really think pumping all the crap into the air is good for our planet? Why are the scientists that dispute it so renowned? There are also scientists that are renowned that believe it is happening. You could move to China where people have to wear masks when they go outside because the pollution is so bad. Even they are starting to work on alternative energy. Our country is really lacking behind because we are run by oil companies who keep our politicians in check so they can keep polluting while making billions of dollars in profits.
number of renowned scientists that have already disputed it: - 24 (sm)

Desmogblog? Really? - Okay then

Our articles and stories are routinely highlighted in the world’s most popular news outlets and blogs: New York Times DotEarth, Huffington Post, Daily Kos, ThinkProgress, and Treehugger, to name a few. That's like quoting Al Gore and using his convenient untruth.
Those are all left wing and communist sites that are trying to push the hoax.
So I researched their so called figures, which of course are not correct.
The first clue not to trust the information was as soon as they wrote "climate deniers". That's how they think they can squash anyone with a different of opinion. Call them one of those "ers". The fact is nobody is denying there is climate change. However the scientists are denying the great global warming swindle that Algore and his buddy billionaire who stand to become uber-wealthy off of the hoax.
It all depends on what you want to believe. It's a more complex subject and difficult for most to understand.
And what's happening to the money that Gore and his buddies will be collecting by swindling people into buying a piece of paper from his company in which he will get rich from. None of that money will actually be going to fix the problem. Only make them rich.
no, it doesn't depend on what I want to believe - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
It depends on the methodology of the study, which simply demonstrates what it demonstrates.
It is - really
[ In Reply To ..]
hard for many to believe that we perfect humans could be doing anything that could be ruining our planet. We have pumped so much garbage into our air, land and water yet we just cannot believe that we could have anything to do with the destruction we have caused. Yes, the earth does go through cycles, but we are speeding this cycle up by a lot.
Then - Old and Tired MT
[ In Reply To ..]
Why don't we all just commit suicide and that way there won't be ANY people and the planet will once again be healthy and "green".
Little overdramatic, dontcha think? - Just a teeny bit?
[ In Reply To ..]
Seriously, you're that in love with oil and coal that you'd rather suggest everyone commit suicide than invest in developing new clean energy sources that will not run out and help the planet for the good of future generations?
I can relate. I was on the brink when they did away with lead paint, DDT, and asbestos. Man, I loved that stuff. Bad for ya, shmad for ya.
Wow - those
[ In Reply To ..]
oil and coal companies really have your thinking messed up. You would rather see everybody kill themselves instead of doing things to better our environment. Amazing.
No - Old and Tired MT

I'm just tired of trying to get the BHLs to see there is a happy medium but there is no use wasting more of my time. End of discussion.
Even a happy medium would eventually result in current resources - being depleted
[ In Reply To ..]
If we continue to use coal and oil, within our great-grandchildren's lifetime those reserves will be nearing their end. I can't imagine a life where everyone is facing that fate, having not figured out how to produce energy starting yesterday.
I really don't see any happy medium now if it means a desperate human outcome in the future.
