Walking out of the courtroom, he didn't look happy. Guess not. I wouldn't be happy either if I was staring at a long time in jail. He's going to appeal, though, because he's innocent.

Yeah, right!

Oh me too. The thing that stands out in my mind (sm) - Abby

is how he refused to let people leave N.O. on school buses before Katrina because they weren't AIR CONDITIONED. I wonder how many of those died.

...leading up to Katrina when I heard the mayor wanted to use the Superdome. There were so many failures on so many levels. IMO, the failure started at the local level, where all help should begin, and went straight to the top. Everyone failed.

I agree. I remember on the news, was it Sunday, the day before(sm) - Abby

they showed people filing into the dome. There was a young guy traveling alone from England. He said his family back home was worried about him, and he figured the dome would be the safest place for him. I always wondered what happened to him, how he made it through.

I remember Bush on vacation and staying on vacation...

"Bush decided to see Katrina's destruction for the first time from his jumbo jet and joked on his first trip to the disaster zone about youthful partying in New Orleans. He didn't cancel his vacation until two days after Katrina struck and didn't visit the region until four days after the storm. It's not the first time that side of the president has been visible. He taped a video for a 2004 black-tie dinner showing him hunting under White House furniture for Iraq's weapons of mass destruction as the death toll there mounted. His visit to Ground Zero came three days after the 9/11 attacks."

I'm sorry. I thought this forum was for everyone to participate - in
[ In Reply To ..]
Yes, there was plenty of blame to go around and I brought up one. I don't understand your hostility when you agree with me.

Anyhow, since it's apparent you guys just want to continue the conversation without any other input, I'll not post in this thread any further. You win.

Nobody is hostile. Please refer to the OPs post regarding what the discussion was about. The mayor that was just convicted. Everyone can participate. We all want to talk about what the OP posted about.
No, this was not about Bush and Katrina. It was about NAGIN being found guilty - Truthhurts
[ In Reply To ..]
of crimes he committed. It was not about Bush, Bush's vacation, etc. It was about Nagin and his fraud, money laundering, etc.

This is a board where someone posts and is open for discussion but staying on the topic by the OPs should be the response.
Katrina was brought up. My posts are still here - so
[ In Reply To ..]
I'm assuming it was okay with the real moderator for me to respond to a topic that was introduced into the thread.

I said multiple times in my posts that Nagin deserved what he got just as every corrupt elected official should.

There are sticky notes at the top of the page that say what this board is for and I don't think it's any other poster's place to tell me what my responses should be as long as I am respectful and follow the rules on the sticky notes.
oh for goodness sake. Nobody is saying what you can or cannot post - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
We're glad for your input about the subject matter of this post (Nagin). Nobody has said that you cannot discuss your opinions on the subject matter of this thread (which happens to be about Nagin). You have since turned it into a Bush bashing post when that is not what this thread is about. All we are saying is that when a person goes off topic and starts diverting from the subject being discussed and turning the post into something totally different that it disrupts the flow of dialogue and then we have to change gears to start talking about a totally different topic.

You are allowed to discuss anything you want. If you want to talk about everything wrong that Bush did during his presidency why don't you start a new thread? Not telling you what to do of course, just saying if you want to talk about Bush and all that he did wrong during his presidency we could start a whole new thread to address those issues. There's plenty to discuss.

Besides nobody is saying you can't participate in discussions.
Unfortunately... - ZvilleMT

she sort of has a valid point. Katrina was brought up and like some other posters said, there is plenty of blame to go around (including Pres. Bush and Gov. Blanco) - everyone pretty much dropped the ball.

However, neither Pres. Bush or Gov. Blanco tried to get money for themselves out of the devastation, so for everyone that screwed up big time, IMO Nagin takes the top prize because he not only did nothing to help before or during, he profited in the aftermath through bribes and corruption.
Thanks - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
I agree. Nagin is guilty. Plain and simple, but when the conversation diverted to blame, I'm sorry, but I'm not going to sit on my hands.

Blago was guilt, JJ Jr was guilty. Bob McDonnel ex-gov of VA has been indicted. Politicians unfortunately let money and power go to their head. All parties are welcome to participate and face the consequences.
Yay!!! Way to hijack a thread and turn it into a Bush bashing thread - Good job there
[ In Reply To ..]
The thread is not about Bush, the thread is about the Nagin.

Would really be nice to be able to stay on topic and discuss the issues the OP posted about. Are we now going to turn every single thread into a way to bash Bush. Because if so it's getting pretty tiring that we can't even have a decent conversation about issues we are trying to discuss.
I was responding to this - sm

"...leading up to Katrina when I heard the mayor wanted to use the Superdome. There were so many failures on so many levels. IMO, the failure started at the local level, where all help should begin, and went straight to the top. Everyone failed."

the top was Bush
I have a better idea I think everyone will like - person you responded to
[ In Reply To ..]
Maybe we can get a whole new board off to the left called Bush Bashing. Then people could bash him 24/7 and leave the topics for political discussion about the topics being discussed. This discussion was about Nagin and the corruption and they were talking about Nagin.

I would like a Bush bashin site. I could write plenty, and then that would leave the conversations focused on what the OP writes about.
Katrina was brought up Who was president during Katrina - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
we can't pick and choose who we want to ignore historically when discussing a topic.

I didn't bring up Katrina. To ignore Bush's participation or lack thereof would not be a correct characterization of the delegation of blame.

And btw, Nagin got what he deserved.
The post was about Nagin, not Bush - enough already

That's coz it is all they have..6+ years of Obama - and Democrat incompetence
[ In Reply To ..]
and that is all they come up. To quote them...Katrina was a "nonissue, fully investigated, move on."
I'm just tired of reading every single thread with them interjecting Bush into it - when he has nothing to do with it
[ In Reply To ..]
It's like every single thread that anyone ever posts from now on they will take the opportunity to throw in a Bush bashing.

The topic was about the mayor who was just convicted and someone has to throw in Bush. It feels like a lot of threads are being hijacked and what this does is disrupts the flow of dialogue that posters are trying to have regarding the OPs message because now they've taken it off topic. That's why I suggested to have a whole board dedicated to bashing bush. Then it could go nonstop 24/7 and we wouldn't have to go off topic anymore.

can we still post all his failures 5 years down the road?

What's fair is fair.
The problem with "5 years" is that... - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
...the destruction brought about by his policies will remain for far, far greater than 5 years, so...we may be talking about him on into infinity. Maybe that's what he wanted, to be remembered forever. Who knows...
IMO you can post whatever you want. It's the Reps, it seems to me anyhow, who - try to tell everyone
[ In Reply To ..]
what we can and can't post.

I said multiple times in my posts that Nagin deserved what he got just as every corrupt elected official should.

The Reps allowed the thread to veer off course when they brought up Katrina, blaming Nagin, but saying correctly that it went all the way to the top.

So that doesn't invite discussion about who was at the top and what he happened to be doing at the time? And what he continued to do?

I expect in the future we will bring up Obama. I have no problem with that. I have no problem with posts taking unexpected turns. That is the nature of conversation. Seems the only time anyone has a problem with it is when it doesn't go their way (both sides).

Long-time Democrat Pollster And Staunch Clinton Defender Says Oct 30, 2016
Doug Schoen dropped this bombshell on Fox this evening. He explained that it's a matter of governance and stability.
