Guantanamo prisoners are being force fed on their hunger strike? Just let them die if that's what they want to do. Virgins are awaiting. I don't get it.

people can be detained, most for 10 years or more, without a trial, hearing or judicial process of any kind? I thought this was America and we were somehow better than N. Korea, Iran, Burma, etc. I just don't get it.

and the practice itself has been considered either criminal or torture since the 1940s. Of note, the US both signed on and ratified the UN Convention Against Torture, adopted in 1948.

In Ws case, the media coverage of force-feeding was probably overshadowed by the use of other torture regimens (or his more sanitized term "enhanced interrogation techniques") such as waterboarding, sleep deprivation, subjecting them to unrelenting loud noise and bright lights for days on end, and of course the shaming tactics seen when those unforgettable proof-positive photos were released of soldiers gleefully parading blindfolded prisoners (some naked) around on dog leashes, beatings, choking with electrical cords, alleged rapes, urinating and defecating on them and their scriptures, just to name a few right off the top of my head. For the blind eye he turned toward the UN-CAT which, by the way, is used as an important criteria for admitting political refugees from all over the world to the US (my own husband being one of them), W now enjoys the status of persona non grata and is barred from entering those third world countries who also signed onto and ratified UN-CAT....on account of his war crimes.

So if you want to denounce a president for thrusting us into sub-third-world status in terms of Guantanamo torture techniques condemned worldwide, you'd best start at the beginning. The thing is, this time around the prisoners themselves succeeded in bringing their long-forgotten plight out of the darkness and into the light for a look-see after the GOP obstructed all efforts President Obama made to shut down the off-shore dungeon of horrors.

Those determined to make an issue of this better proceed with the greatest caution, fully cognizant of the can of worms lurking directly beneath the lid of that ugly, ugly Pandora's box.

It looks like other people have a sense of humor. Glad to see some people do in these days.

I've said things in the past that come out wrong and my DH will start laughing and I laugh with him. Don't get all mad it's funny.

We all make them and we all need to give it a break with being so sensitive. If you can't laugh in life what good is life. We're not laughing at a person we're laughing because it sounds funny and makes us giggle. We probably agree with the message originally posted, but people have got to lighten up and have a little giggle in life. Even the word giggle makes me giggle.
