Bye bye Demon Spawn - Bernie fills a stadium (sm)

I know he's popular, but he's too hostile to business and the Democrats - need their money, so I doubt
[ In Reply To ..]
he'll get the nomination.
Same with Trump, Huckabee, etc. on the Republican side. I really doubt if they will get the nomination. It will be some establishment Republican.
That old socialist is going to see the wrath of - Hillary very soon. xx

SINCE HILLARY ALREADY RESPONSIBLE FOR MURDER - PROBABLY SO

What about all the murders conservatives are - responsible for?
[ In Reply To ..]
Their track record goes all the way back to the days of the Salem witch hunts.
There's no room for two dictators, only one. - xx

Here's the deal with Hillary: Although she has - all sorts of qualifications that - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
would make her a fit candidate for POTUS, and I would vote for her if she wins the Democratic candidacy, the problem I have with her is that she's too cozy with big business and other typically right-wing traits. Voting for her would feel too much like I was voting for an almost-Republican.
The reason Bernie is generating so much interest isn't his charisma, speaking ability, looks, etc. He's not telling voters what they want to hear, like all the other candidates do, he's stating the facts simply and honestly. That's something Americans need more of in politics - simplicity and honesty.
I don't care whether what politicians tell us is good news or bad news, as long as it has some semblance of truth.
He's proposing free stuff like college, healthcare, 12 - weeks paid baby leave,
[ In Reply To ..]
oh my gosh, we are Greece!
A true conservative would choose Greece - as the comparison
[ In Reply To ..]
Germany, Sweden.
Many, many countries have paid maternity leave.
Many have Universal healthcare.
Many have "free" college, which does have fees associated with it, differing in different countries. (and if you listen to Sanders' plan, ours would have differences on personal income qualification). The private colleges will continue on, charging whatever the market will bear.
I still do not understand the cognitive dissonance of the people of this board.
Our founders were not socialists. We are broke. How does he propose - to pay for this? By raising taxes.

Our govt. needs to be dismantled and rebuilt - from the ground up. MINUS the GOP.
[ In Reply To ..]
Minus ALL political parties, in fact. The party system has divided and nearly destroyed the United States.
Founders were socialist--Democratic socialists - Just like Ole Bernie
[ In Reply To ..]
Democratic socialists support government intervention in the economy, including:
1. Heavy regulation of private industry.
2. Redistributive welfare policies.
3. Government subsidies.
4. A nationalized banking system.
The Federalist Party supported Hamilton's strong centralized government, and agreed with his proposals for a national bank and heavy government subsidies. They WERE socialists.
Alexander Hamilton was a big-government socialist.
1. Hamilton supported the creation of a National Bank through implied powers.
2. Hamilton supported tarriffs and industry-specific subsidies.
3. Hamilton supported a strong centralized government.
4. Hamilton supported an unlimited interpretation of the government's taxing power.
5. Hamilton supported a near-unlimited interpretation of the government's spending power.
Most of the delegates who attended the Constitutional Convention supported Hamilton's political views.
Yes, the GOP is doomed. Prob. won't be around - much longer. #FeelTheBern!

I think the term "socialist" isn't always used - in a completely correct way. (s/m)
[ In Reply To ..]
Too many people equate it with a totalitarian government such as the one the USSR used to have. Even they didn't really use the term "socialist" in its true meaning, because socialism has to do with the government looking out for its population as a WHOLE, and not just the few wealthiest at the very top of the pecking order.
I think America will be a broken country until it comes to realize that although there's nothing wrong with making money, there should be some kind of a cap when it comes to obscene personal wealth. I'm not just talking about overpaid CEOs, either. Look at how much those spoiled-rotten, overpaid football and baseball players make. And TV and movie stars. Yes, they are all making their living by entertaining the rest of us. But once you make a certain number of millions/billions, does it REALLY matter if you make MORE? No. And that's where it seems to be going wrong.
Also, many socialist countries want to leave the EU because of - high taxation to pay for all these "free"
[ In Reply To ..]
programs and lack of popular representation.
We were recently in Vienna, Austria, and the interesting thing we saw was that all of the merchants much preferred cash over credit cards. A couple of restaurants were cash only.
In Norway, they use a credit card for everything.
I guess you've never been to Norway, then. - I have. Their standard of living - sm

I have a scandinavian cousin who is studying - to become a doctor. When she was -
[ In Reply To ..]
visiting the US not long ago, we were talking about and comparing our education and healthcare systems, and she was appalled at what she was hearing about our country. "But America is such a wealthy country!" she said. Yes, it's true - it's wealthy, but unfortunately it's all going to just a handful of people at the very top.
Yes, they pay higher taxes, but that's also offset by the fact that all jobs there pay a decent living wage, and that they aren't squandering their yearly earnings on health insurance, co-pays, and predatory college loans. There are also plenty of good jobs available to them because they don't offshore most of them, like we do.
Then review our founding, we were not socialists. It was tried with - William Bradford and failed miserably,
[ In Reply To ..]
some worked harder, some didn't work at all, some mediocre, and they all reaped the same benefit. That's why they got rid of it.
So as a hard-working American, you don't believe - you should be entitled to things - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
that citizens of other, better-run countries have? Education is not a "perk" available only to the well-to-do elite. It's an investment in the future, so that all citizens, rich or poor, have an even chance at becoming assets to their countries, not liabilities.
I also don't get how the same people that think anyone who gets pregnant should be forced to carry that pregnancy full-term, yet are against the parents of said child having time off work to get that child off to a good start.
And I REALLY don't get how anyone working in the healthcare field, as MTs do, with their view into the full spectrum of causes and effects of ill health, could ever be against the availability of healthcare for everyone... even MTs.
I don't believe it should be taken to begin with, - and then redistributed as the gvt sees fit,
[ In Reply To ..]
for votes.
Our country's wealthiest don't seem to see - (sm)
[ In Reply To ..]
what is likely coming down the pike. They keep crushing the common citizen further and further into the dirt, and then crying like little babies if those people need any help. What the rich don't seem to be able to comprehend is that the common (former) middle class citizen is NOT going to just go away. Or die. If things don't start to change for this country, the wealth will likely end up being redistributed by force. Could this happen by violence? Perhaps. But more likely than not, the wealth will be forcibly distributed by other means. Our country's burgeoning underground economy, coupled with the ingenuity born out of necessity, can suck the money right out of their pockets before they even know what happened.
Many many solvent countries have these things - what they don't have is
[ In Reply To ..]
Billions of dollars wasted on the military and the belligerent foreign policy of past administrations creating military enemies.
It's all good for the bank accounts of the very rich and politicians. I am betting all the politicians have war manufacturing stocks, even some correspondents probably do. It should be made public, as it is a vested interest and a conflict of interest.
War pays for some, but it has made our country central to the military-industrial complex and means we pour so much of our GDP into military funding (way more than any other country) that we have nothing left to repair our infrastructure, to fund our basic social services like family leave and more humane work regulations.
Providing a military is constitutional. That's about one of the few - things that actually IS constitutional,
[ In Reply To ..]
that we have now.
Yeah, a military, but not one that takes up a - majority of the GDP
[ In Reply To ..]
What about the military we had before WWII, for instance?
Remember how we had to be dragged into war then, not starting them ourselves for no freaking reason other than enriching Dick Cheney types?
I have the utmost respect and the highest regard for the military, but I highly doubt when they wrote the constitution, spending such a majority of our GDP on military was what they meant by "providing a military."
Maybe so, but social programs FOR SURE aren't - constitutional. NM
[ In Reply To ..]
NM
But the top 1% hoarding America's wealth for - themselves IS constitutional?
[ In Reply To ..]
Or moral? Or even intelligent? I think that's probably a "no" on all accounts.
