1. One attacker thwarted by "good guy with gun."
2. Over 7,000 children are hospitalized or killed due to gun violence every year, according to a new studypublished in the medical journal Pediatrics. An additional 3,000 children die from gun injuries before making it to the hospital, bringing the total number of injured or killed adolescents to 10,000 each year.
Sounds like a good trade-off to me!

So, what you're saying is that guns should be regulated like cars: Mandatory insurance, strict licensing, having to go through safety courses on its use, and passing a test before being allowed to own one.

I am sick of seeing men with anger issues and drunk and on drugs and restraining orders killing their families. We should value our vets who commit a high percentage of suicides--NRA types always want to exclude the suicide stats. The simple reason is that suicide by gun is easy, convenient and highly efficient. No, people do not just go out and find another way to commit suicide. I edit many reports on people who fail suicide by cutting themselves and fail to overdose. I do NO reports on the people who are successful with suicide by gun. The coroner does those.

[ In Reply To ..]With 330 million guns floating around this country criminals can always get them. In many neighborhoods they can simply buy them on the street. In many states they can walk into a gun show and buy them (as can potential terrorists), they can steal them from all the "responsible" gun owners and can probably get them in other ways I haven't thought of. There are neighborhoods in our cities where you cannot find a child who has not witnessed a shooting so why would you think that more guns are the answer?

[ In Reply To ..]For this reason, we LEGISLATE seatbelts. We also legislate child car seats. We have established car safety standards for both head-on collisions and offset collisions. We impose much stricter sentences for DUI accidents. We have public programs and outreach on drinking and driving.
To ignore the public health risk of guns is to completely have one's head in the sand.
One of the gun shop owners in our city told us half - his customers are liberals.

All of the gun violence would not be an issue if there were not guns available. Sure, some violence would occur anyway, but it is not nearly as effective and efficient.
